PSL 8: Peshawar Zalmi (199/5) narrowly defeat Karachi Kings (197/5) by 2 runs to win Match 2

Wow that was close to another no-ball by Khurram in height and the line.

PSZ 199/5 (20)
KRK 197/5 (20) CRR: 9.85
Peshawar Zalmi won by 2 runs

If u make 2 teams of Pakistan bowlers from no PZ bowler can get into both teams at present condition. Babar won with that bowling Babar 1 (Imad amir wahab)=0

Must've been babar who was bowling the no balls and dropping the catches. In fact he must've not been able to hit the boundaries for Karachi as well. Great win. JUSTICE

Even after 2 million no balls and catch drops, KK fails to chase despite having 'More Match Winners' in the side. Loved the phainti fixer and glorified tail ender got.

Imad and Cutting missed a couple of hits of length ball. Imad mishit 2 full tosses. In the end the knock turned out to be useless, he didn't take his team over the finishing line.

Well bowled Khurram.

After today's game no one can doubt Imad's credentials. He's an automatic starter in white ball cricket for Pakistan. Outbatted Babar as well.

lmao
no sympathy for KK , Imad played the innings of his life though hard luck but 5 no balls was criminal from PZ , Babar’s flurry of runs b4 he got out was the difference

Karachi should have won this

The skier under Harris catch should have been 2 runs

Great shots by Imad but bottled it in the end.

Don’t know if get spanked at 14.00 per over makes him an ‘automatic starter in white ball cricket’.

Real match winning performance by imad today. Great with the bowl brilliant with the bat got his team over the line in style. What a loss by 3 runs spearheaded by imad

Apparently Kohler Cadmore did not play the match! Did he?

Name me a better lower order batsman?

His bowling is just a bonus when we already have Shadab and Nawaz as our frontline spinners.

Agree he can play as a batsman. He's clutch but needs to drop ambition of captaincy

I don't think it's good idea to open with two youngsters. You saw what happened when Qasim and Haider batted together

Fair enough

I will call a spade a spade

Qasim’s drop catch of Babar and Babar’s 12-13 runs after that were the difference

That turned out to be a crucial drop.

I would agree on this but Babar as a captain leaves a lot to be desired.

I think either Imad, Shaheen or Shadab should captain in white ball cricket. Right now I'd give Imad the edge over the others because of his calmness and ability to lead from the front with the way he plays selflessly for the team.

Deluded followers claiming Imad as an automatic pick .. lmao @ them he got smacked @14rpo & hit a tukka innings ,his 5th 50 in over 200 in innings , he done as far as international cricket is concerned

Lol imad was dropped when team score was 57.

Imads innings today was better than Babar’s entire career. This is such an enjoyable thread really

Imad is so much more charismatic as a leader

He should be the Pakistan captain

Much agreed sir. Imad has played an innings that Babar could never wish of playing. A 80 non out at blazing speed chasing 200. What a talent!

Imad is so much more charismatic as a leader

He should be the Pakistan captain

Imad will be a finalist in this PSL. Mark my words. He and Sarfraz are two amazing charismatic leaders of Pakistan.

Wow the hate for Imad on this thread is quite astonishing really. Babar's fans as usual having a hard time to digest that he outbatted their precious hero.

Dill Jeet liya imaad ne ..
Beautiful batting and game awareness ..
I am sure if Babar had been at his place coming to bat at side tottering at 44/4 his wouldn't have been able to take them past 100..
Babar is playing such a mean cricket, see how he is destroying the young Siam Ayub by making him play at no.3 position although he is a natural opener.
It will be better for Pak cricket to get rid of Babar as captain

Babar Azam | Peshawar Zalmi Captain: It was our first match and it was important to start on a good note for your new franchise. The partnership between Imad and Shoaib was really good and because of the dew, the ball was coming on nicely on to the bat. We stuck to our plans, Khurram bowled very well, he bowled a crucial final over too. Myself and Tom played well, I tried to give more strike to Tom as he was hitting very well. We could have scored 10 more runs. We need to improve our fielding and catching as well.

Imad Wasim | Karachi Kings Captain: We bowled really well. Tom and Babar did really well. 200 was chasable, but we didn't start well. Credit to the groundsman, it was a great wicket. The wicket was good, we tried to play cricketing shots. We could have won the game had Shoaib stayed till the end. First game of the tournament and there were a lot of positives. I am very happy with the bowling, gotta be a bit clever. The batters have to back themselves to play the big shots.

Game awareness was lacking in the last two overs

When Cutting skied the ball for that Harris catch, Imad should have pre-emoted there could be a drop catch and ran at least two with the hang time of the ball. Everyone was dropping catches from the heavens.

Had they ran two, they would have needed 14 in the last over instead of 16

Nope, sweets

It’s you who’s got a fixation about Babar’s shortcomings.

Nobody here is unaware of those, but Imad’s behaviour in the media in recent days (on the subject of Babar) has been pretty unedifying, especially if Imad’s the Pakistan captain-in-waiting who’s supposed to unify the group.

But Imad was proven right

Imad is a much better leader than Babar. Babar is clueless

I'm sick and tired of selfish meek players who only care about their stats and milestones. We had to endure this with Misbah for so many years.

As for Imad's behaviour, I'll be honest I only follow his cricket. What did he say? If he's been criticising Babar's captaincy then he isn't exactly wrong is he? Far from it I'd say because he's a terrible skipper.

Peshawar Zalmi overcame dropped catches, no balls, slow over rate penalty and a stunning 80 not out off 47 from Imad Wasim – his highest T20 score – to beat Karachi Kings by two runs in an enthralling contest on Tuesday.

Peshawar Zalmi were on course to a comfortable win when they had the hosts tottering at 46 for four at 6.1 overs in the second match of the HBL Pakistan Super League 8 at the National Bank Cricket Arena, but the highest-ever fifth wicket partnership in the tournament’s history (131) between Karachi Kings captain Imad and Pakistan’s most experienced T20 campaigner, Shoaib Malik, turned the match into an exciting affair.

Malik, who made 52 off 34, and Imad gathered at the crease at the start of the seventh over. Though the pair displayed positive intent and took the attack on the opposition bowlers after taking a brief time settling in, they were helped by the fielding lapses and no balls, on one of which the catch was taken.

Imad was on nine when he was dropped by Jimmy Neesham at backward point on the last ball of the eighth over. Imad was quick to rub salt into the wounds when he hit left-arm wrist spinner Sufyan Muqeem, the visiting side’s emerging pick, for two fours on either side of Malik’s boundary in an over that added 14 to the total.

In the 17th over, Wahab Riaz dropped a sitter at deep midwicket off Neesham and on the penultimate ball of the 19th Ben Cutting was caught off a no ball, delivered by Wahab.

Peshawar Zalmi, in total, bowled five no balls – including both waist high and front foot – and seven wides.

But, in between these lapses, Imad and Malik pounced onto any opportunity they got to give themselves a solid chance of chasing down the total.

Imad hit four sixes and seven fours in an inning in which he scored at a strike rate of 170.21 and Malik smashed four fours and two sixes.

Peshawar Zalmi found themselves behind the required over rate and had to field five fielders inside the 30-yard circle for the last two overs. With Karachi Kings needing 24 off the last 12 balls, Wahab made his experience count and gave away only eight runs – despite that Cutting no ball – and gave Khurram 16 runs to play with.

Khurram bowled with precision, hitting the yorker length on the first three balls that costed a single each. But, he stepped over on the fourth that added drama to the already tense contest as Karachi Kings took a single off that delivery. The right-arm fast, however, held nerve and gave singles on the next two balls. Imad hoicked the last ball for the six, but Khurram had done the job for Peshawar Zalmi by then.

Chasing 200 to win, Karachi Kings crumbled under scoreboard pressure. Wahab accounted for Sharjeel Khan on the second ball as his length ball kissed the left-hander’s gloves on its way to Mohammad Haris.

Matthew Wade’s onslaught instilled believe in the home crowd. The wicketkeeper-batter clubbed Khurram Shahzad for a six and two fours in the next over. That hope, however, was short-lived as he got caught off Neesham’s first ball of the match in the fourth over after making 23 off 15

Neesham dismissed Qasim Akram in the sixth over and Haider Ali was out in a bizzare fashion on the first ball of the seventh over – edging a catch to cover trying to work the ball wide down his legs – as Karachi Kings were now four down for 46.

That Karachi Kings had 10 runs per over to chase from the onset was because of a belligerent 92 off 50 by Tom Kohler-Cadmore and a sparkling 46-ball 68 from Babar Azam.

Though Peshawar Zalmi’s innings began with a boundary when Haris smashed Mohammad Aamir for a four at deep long on, they found themselves in a spot of bother with Haris and Saim Ayub getting out in a span of three balls in the second over.

Haris was struck on his back leg when he went for a heave over midwicket and Saim was run out at the non-striker’s end as Babar’s drive down the ground ricocheted off Mir Hamza’s hand and hit the stumps. Haris was adjudged not out by on-field umpire Alex Wharf, only to be overturned on review.

The momentum, however, did not stay with the home side for long as Kohler-Cadmore hit Imad out of the attack by smashing him for three consecutive sixes in the fifth over that added 23 runs to the Peshawar Zalmi’s total.

In what was an outstanding recovery, Peshawar Zalmi were 58 for two at the end of the Powerplay after finding themselves on 15 for two in 1.4 overs. The pair of Kohler-Cadmore and Babar continued to accumulate runs at a brisk rate as it took them 64 balls to bring up 100 partnership.

Kohler-Cadmore took 28 balls to reach the 50-run mark and Babar brought up his 24th HBL PSL half-century in 39 balls.

As Peshawar Zalmi looked on course to post a mammoth total, with 150 on board and 33 balls still to go, Babar was caught down the ground off Imran Tahir. The two had added 139 runs in 81 balls.

Kohler-Cadmore, however, continued to attack the Karachi Kings bowlers. He fell eight runs short of the century as he was caught pulling Ben Cutting on deep fine leg in the last over.

Player of the match Kohler-Cadmore struck seven fours and six sixes and Babar hit seven fours and a six.

Scores in brief:

Peshawar Zalmi 199-5, 20 overs (Tom Kohler-Cadmore 92, Babar Azam 68)

Karachi Kings 197-5, 20 overs (Imad Wasim 80 not out, Shoaib Malik 52, Matthew Wade, 23; James Neeshan 2-26, Wahab Riaz 2-34)

Player of the match – Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Peshawar Zalmi)

This was a very scrappy match. There is no excuse for so many dropped catches,no balls and slow overate. These two teams need to be professional. Both lack quality bowlers.Don’t know why Arshad Iqbal and Muhammad Umar were left out.

Another very good game & I must say one of the best threads in a while too.. full of gems lmao , overall a great start to the PSL8 bring on game3

You should thank Kohler Cadmore. Do not undercount his 92 off 50. To be frank, his batting saved Babar.

Tbh bro. 200 is still par. They could have got 180 even if Cadmore didn’t fire as much.

210 is probably the safest score in Karachi when it’s this flat batting first.

At the end of the day, the captain needs to find a way to defend a par score like 199 on such a track with dew under lights.

Babar made a couple of good moves which were the difference.

1. Bowling Neesham in the 4th over, the wicket of Wade was huge. It worked for him.

2. Bowling Shakib to Qasim as the new batsman and getting a 3 run over in during the powerplay

He then, once again allowed the game to drift as he usually does when he has a team on the ropes and allowed that huge partnership by Imad and Malik, but his two decisions earlier were definitely the difference

So credit where credit is due

Imad’s innings>>>Babar’s stats

Had Babar played the same innings and ended up losing, you would have cried about him not finishing off the game. 🤣

Anyways, nice to see you becoming a Imad cheerleader now that your darling Sharjeel has flopped.

Well done to the PCB

Peshawar Zalmi were ruled to be one over short of their target by match referee Ali Naqvi, who took into consideration time allowances before arriving at the decision.

As such, and in accordance with Article 2.22 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, each player was fined 10 per cent of his match fee.
