Another nonsense trade

Multan Sultans make strategic trade deal

In a strategic move to further strengthen domestic spin bowling stocks and acquire the best picks in HBL PSL 9 Player Draft, Multan Sultans management has traded Shan Masood for the first pick in Diamond category, the second pick in Silver category as well as Multan-born left-arm wrist spinner Faisal Akram. Karachi Kings have gotten Multan Sultans’ fourth pick in the first Diamond round.

Multan Sultans now have two picks - second and fourth - in the first Silver round. The team had previously bagged the first Platinum pick of this year’s draft in a trade deal with Quetta Gladiators.

Faisal, a member of Pakistan squad in the previous ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, has 24 List A wickets and five T20 wickets.

Chief Executive Ali Khan Tareen: “This has been one of the most exciting trade and retention windows in the history of the HBL Pakistan Super League and we are delighted with how our line-up is shaping. We had two agendas for this trade window: focus on buildinging a strong domestic core and getting the best possible picks in the HBL PSL 9 Player Draft in order to get the best overseas players to compliment our team combination.

These stellar draft picks plus our local core sets us up to build a solid squad for the HBL PSL 9 and beyond.

“I am over the moon to have finally gotten Faisal Akram in our team. We have been working with him since he was 16. He has been a regular at our academy and camps. He is an extraordinary talent and we are yet to see his best. Now he is part of our team for the next many years, our goal will be to develop him into a national asset."

“I want to thank Shan Masood who has been the longest serving member of the Sultans family. He has been our captain and a huge part of our success. We will definitely miss him and wish him the best in his new team."

Have a weird feeling Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans will finish bottom 2 this time. Absolutely pathetic pre draft trading business

The standard of the tournament if this is considered a ‘mega trade’

• HBL PSL Player Draft 2024 to take place on 13 December 2023

• 485 international players from 22 nations have signed up for the draft

Lahore, 7 December 2023:

All six franchises have finalised their trades and player retentions ahead of the HBL PSL Player Draft 2024, which is scheduled to take place on 13 December at National Cricket Academy, Lahore.
Each franchise was allotted a maximum of eight retentions. Barring Multan Sultans – who retained seven players – all franchises made full use of their retentions.

Reigning champions and winners of the last two seasons, Lahore Qalandars have retained their captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi in the Platinum category. In the Diamond category, Haris Rauf has been named the team’s brand ambassador. ICC’s sixth-ranked T20I all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been retained in Gold category while second-ranked T20I bowler Rashid Khan has been retained in Silver, though he may miss the tournament due to injury. Mirza Tahir Baig, after a successful relegation request, has been retained in Silver.

Two-time champions Islamabad United have retained ICC’s eighth-ranked T20I all-rounder Shadab Khan, alongside their successful trade Naseem Shah in the Platinum category. Diamond-category Imad Wasim, who moved to Islamabad United from Karachi Kings, has been named the team’s Mentor, while Gold-category Faheeem Ashraf has been appointed the Brand Ambassador. Rumman Raees has been retained in Silver after a successful relegation request.

Multan Sultans have retained their captain Mohammad Rizwan, ICC’s second-ranked T20I batter, in the Platinum category. Iftikhar Ahmed, after a successful trade with Quetta Gladiators, is Multan’s other Platinum player. HBL PSL 2023 player of the tournament, Ihsanullah, has been appointed the side’s Brand Ambassador and has been retained in the Silver category. Faisal Akram, after a successful trade with Karachi Kings, has been retained in Emerging.

Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik have both been retained in Gold by Karachi Kings. Shan Masood was traded for left-arm wrist-spinner Faisal Akram, ahead of the end of the trade window. Shan has also been named the Brand Ambassador while Malik has been appointed team Mentor. Mir Hamza has been retained in Silver, after a successful relegation request.

Quetta Gladiators have retained world’s No.5 T20I batter Rilee Rossouw in Platinum and third-ranked T20I bowler Wanindu Hasaranga in Diamond. Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Abrar Ahmed, after a successful trade, have been retained in Diamond and Gold respectively. Jason Roy, who holds the record for the highest individual score in HBL PSL history, has also been retained in Diamond. Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed Quetta Gladiator’s Brand Ambassador and is retained in Gold category.

Babar Azam, the most successful batter in HBL PSL history and currently ranked No.4 in the ICC T20I rankings, has been retained in Platinum by Peshawar Zalmi alongside West Indies power-hitter Rovman Powell. Mohammad Haris has been retained in Gold category and has been named the Brand Ambassador as well.

Following the finalisation of all trades and retentions, Multan Sultans will now have the first pick in the first round of the Platinum category, after Multan and Quetta traded Iftikhar Ahmed and Rilee Rossouw between them.

Naseem Shah’s move to Islamabad United also saw their first round Platinum pick exchanged with Quetta Gladiator’s third-round Platinum pick.

Following Shan Masood’s move to Karachi Kings, their first-round Silver pick was exchanged for Multan Sultan’s fourth-round Silver pick. Owing to Imad Wasim’s move to Islamabad United, Islamabad’s first-round Silver pick has been exchanged with Karachi’s second-round Silver pick.

Furthermore, Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators will be required to pick a local player in the Platinum category.

As per the precedent, each of the six sides will have the Right to Match Card that will allow them to pick any player released from their roster during the draft.

Fakhar Zaman not retained but Abdullah Shafique is

What have you done Aqib???

Multan has traded Roussow for the first platinum pick. That means they have a foreign target that they badly want. Wondering who that is? Gurbaz maybe?

There is no Miller or David in this year’s PSL

Multan are on course to get badly exposed in this year’s PSL

PCB and the PSL Franchises desperately need to find a way to inject funds in the league.

Its no wonder we keep habitually missing out on the Top T-20 players

Very excited for this. Some rumours by credible sources:

1. Mohammad Amir will be picked by QG.
-Zalmi have first pick in his category, and they definitely need seamers. Reliable ones too.

2. Sharjeel Khan to be picked by Multan Sultans

Question marks:

1. Mohammad Nawaz released by QG. I suspect they wanted to trade him for Amir, but KK were not in favour of this transfer. Which means that Nawaz doesn’t seem to be in favour at the moment for any franchise.

2. Haider Ali and Umar Akmal in my opinion will not be picked in this year’s draft. Terrible performances in the domestic Pakistan cup, pathetic form and have become liabilities for their sides

Moves I would like to see:

1. Ideally I would like to see Sharjeel being picked up by LQ, whilst the inevitable retention using the RTM for Fakhar is used by them. It is my dream to watch these to open the batting together.

2. Omair Bin Yousuf in Karachi Kings. This kid for me is an excellent prospect. Pocket dynamite player for the middle order. I would love to see him represent his home franchise and become a mainstay for many years to come.

3. Ammad Alam in Peshawar Zalmi. This allows the potential of one of the most dynamic young opening pair of Saim and Ammad to form. With Mohammad Harris also in the mix, this would be a very exciting move.

4. Maheesh Theekshana to Lahore Qalandars. They will need a world class spinner to fill the massive void left by the absence of Rashid Khan this season. If no Theekshana, I wouldn’t mind Imrul Qais or Noor Ahmed (if they are in the draft)

5. Reza Hendricks to Karachi Kings. The Kings could do with a proper top order batsman this season, and the partnership with Vince could be crucial for their chances to compete

6. Sahibzada Farhan to Quetta Gladiators. The Gladiators could do with a red hot, in form opener to pair up with the senior international gun Jason Roy, followed by the dependable Rilee Russouw. That would be a fantastic top 3 to set the tone for them.

Please no Sharjeel to Multan

I cannot, CANNOT have a soft corner for the Sultans! Please no!

Azam Khan and Imad Wasim express their joy in being part of Islamabad United for PSL 9. Their enthusiasm adds a spark to the team, and fans can't wait to witness their dynamic contributions on the field.

Interesting this PSL to see the new coaches coming in with Watto and Hesson for QG and ISLU respectively...

Peshawar Zalmi offer Salman Irshad, Aamer Jamal and Arshad Iqbal for Naseem Shah.

Absolutely lost the plot here have the Zalmis
I think branding isn't your strong area of understanding. No one cares who wins or loses these matches, because franchises are artificial and have no loyal following. On the other hand fans watch and follow players and wherever they go, they want to watch them. Naseem is the 2nd biggest brand in PK cricket and they want his followers to transfer over.

Peshawar Zalmi is a brand happy to finish 4th/5th?

I don't think they care. No one really cares who wins or loses and results are forgotten literally days later. People support players, not teams. They all get a share of the TV money and winning the competition is only worth a little more.

Whether they care or not, the cricket purists (like me) are well within our rights to question/flag bogus transfer business.

You can harp on about branding all you like. That’s your choice.

T20 cricket is tamasha. It has no cricketing value, and even the 1st WC wasn't taken seriously. I am just stating facts that have shown up your ignorance on why certain players are wanted by franchises. The guys that they wanted to trade have no value in the brand, no one knows who they are and what they look like. Sorry to burst your bubble
