Even if he is fit, he probably isn't putting in 100% effort as he doesn't want to injure himself, probably just going through the action. He should take it slow to ensure he doesn't get injured before the tests vs Australia. It is his first game since the World cup.

Naseem could do really well with the new ball in Australia, but I doubt he will open.

Well, thankfully CP at least did the right thing by replacing Waqas Maqsood with Bashir finally. Bashir deserves a run, while Waqas has been pretty poor. Playing for 2nd XI now.

The fact of the matter is there is no body after Amir and Wahab who deserves to be in Pak team..so i am hundred percent behind Naseem and Musa even though only one should play and its hardly a gamble...Gamble is shaheen afridi and even Abbas and yasir who i dont have no hopes for.

Some people were actually questioning the selection of Naseem Shah and wanted Hasnain or the old trundlers in the team. This guy is too good for Pakistan domestic. He's troubling even the top domestic batsmen on these dead pitches. And he gets good wickets, not cheap ones.

Lahore, 29 October 2019:

Unbeaten half-centuries by Fawad Alam and Saad Ali had Sindh at 196 for four in 57.5 overs when stumps were drawn on day two of their four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture against Central Punjab at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium.

Sindh had lost four wickets for 72 runs thanks to young fast-bowler Naseem Shah, who accounted for the wickets of Khurram Manzoor (10), Abid Ali (three) and Omair Bin Yousaf (33).

Faheem Ashraf was the other bowler to take a wicket as he removed Asad Shafiq, who managed only five runs from his 18-ball stay at the crease.

With the pressure mounting on the visitors, Fawad and Saad knitted an unbeaten 124-run stand for the fifth-wicket which put Sindh’s innings back on track.

Fawad, to date, had scored 78 runs from 133 balls with 10 fours, while Saad made 60 off 119 with eight fours.

Earlier, Central Punjab were 313 all-out in 95.5 overs as they added only 50 runs to their overnight score.

On Tuesday morning, Faheem led the charge with the bat for the hosts. Resuming his innings at 22, the all-rounder scored 52 not out from 63 balls, cracking seven fours and a six.

His overnight partner, Ehsan Adil, added 14 more runs to his score of nine

With three wickets for 99 runs, Kashif Bhatti was the pick of the bowlers for Sindh, while pacers Sohail Khan, Mir Hamza and Tabish Khan took two wickets each.

Both teams bagged three points each as Sindh took nine or more wickets and Central Punjab crossed the 300-run mark in the 110-over cut-off.

The third day’s play at Iqbal Stadium will resume at 10.00am on Wednesday.

Scores in brief:

Central Punjab 313 all-out, 95.5 overs (Kamran Akmal 90, Ahmed Shehzad 60, Faheem Ashraf 52, Usman Salahuddin 38, Ehsan Adil 25; Kashif Bhatti 3-99, Mir Hamza 2-46, Sohail Khan 2-72, Tabish Khan 2-80)

Sindh 196-4, 57.5 overs (Fawad Alam 78, Saad Ali 60, Omair Bin Yousaf 33; Naseem Shah 3-55)

Batsmen continue to dominate the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy round five, first-class match between Southern Punjab and Northern at the Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot on Tuesday.

In reply to Northern’s mammoth first innings 550-run total, Southern Punjab finished day two at 102 for one in their first innings. Captain Shan Masood and Sami Aslam (42 not out) defied the Northern bowlers for nearly three hours before Shan’s departure a few minutes before close for 58 (76 balls, seven fours).

On day two, Northern resumed their first innings at 384 for one, Southern Punjab fought their way back in the morning session by taking three early wickets. Zeeshan and Umar’s heroic second wicket partnership (overnight 343 runs) yielded 358 runs. Zeeshan was dismissed after an epic 266-ball 216, his innings included 29 fours and five sixes.

The left-handed Umar who had posted his 20th first-class century fell for 156; he faced 224 balls hitting 20 fours and two sixes in the process. Hammad Azam fell for zero while skipper Rohail Nazir departed for 16.

Despite the loss of four wickets in the session, Northern took lunch at a formidable 466 for five in 106 overs; they collected full five first innings batting points on offer. Southern Punjab had to be content with a solitary bowling point (four wickets in the first 110 overs).

Northern declared at 550 for six, mid-way second session of the day. Faizan Riaz 83 added 100 runs for the sixth wicket with Ali Sarfaraz 44 not out; the declaration was made when Faizan fell 17 runs short of his 100.

Rahat Ali took three wickets for 97 runs while Mohammad Abbas took two for 86 in 23 overs.

Scores in brief:

Northern 550 for 6, 124.2 overs (Zeeshan Malik 216, Umar Amin 156, Faizan Riaz 83; Rahat Ali 3-97, Muhammad Abbas 2-86)

Southern Punjab 102 for 1, 27 overs (Shan Masood 58, Sami Aslam 42 not out; Noman Ali 1-10)

Naseem is turning out to be the most impactful seamer in QAE 2019. Shaheen needs to find his rhythm back post injury while glad to see Akif Javed in the 4 day outfit of Baluchistan too though he will need to adjust as he is very new at this level.

New QAE trophy has definitely produced some young batsmen as well in Omair Yousuf, Haider Ali, Zeeshan Malik and Imran Butt. Though the conditions werent really difficult for batting but what has really impressed me is their hunger to score big runs at a young age.

Asad Shafiq out lbw cheaply against the innocuous seam bowling of Fahim Ashraf.

Fawad Alam on route to another FC hundred against arguably the best bowling attack in domestic cricket.

But Shafiq is the one who continues to hog a place in the Test side...

Quetta, 29 October 2019:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gave Balochistan a spirited reply on the second day of the fifth-round first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at Quetta’s Bugti Stadium.

In response to the home team’s 553-8 declared in 145.4 overs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were 150 for no loss in 34 overs at the close of play as captain Sahibzada Farhan and Israrullah batted on 72 and Israrullah on 71.

Farhan, to date, has cracked 10 boundaries in 102 deliveries, while Israrullah’s unbeaten 103-ball knock is laced with 10 fours and a six.

Earlier, Balochistan, 341 for three overnight, rode on an excellent double-century by Imran Butt to amass a huge score.

The 23-year-old hit a career-best 214 after resuming the day at his overnight score of 135 not out.

The right-handed batsman stayed at the crease for 522 minutes and cracked 18 fours and three sixes in 387 balls.

Balochistan captain Imran Farhat was the first batsman out on Tuesday after adding another 20 runs to his overnight score of 114. The left-hander hit 17 fours and a six in 219 balls.

The two Imrans shared a mammoth partnership of 256 runs for the fourth-wicket.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Bismillah Khan also had a noticeable outing with the bat, scoring 75 runs with the help of nine fours and two sixes.

Off-spinner Sajid Khan was the most successful Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bowler, claiming three wickets for 126 runs. Imran Khan Sr. took two for 87, while Usman Shinwari and Junaid Khan took a wicket apiece.

Balochistan bagged maximum batting points (5) for crossing the 400-run mark in 110 overs of their first innings. For taking four wickets by that mark, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could manage only one point.

Scores in brief:

Balochistan 553-8 declared, 145.4 overs (Imran Butt 214, Imran Farhat 134, Bismillah Khan 75, Awais Zia 69; Sajid Khan 3-126, Imran Khan Sr. 2-87).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 150-0, 34 overs (Sahibzada Farhan 72 not out, Israrullah 71 not out).

how can we look into these scores when the wickets are so dead....in the fourth round of matches there has been only two wins in whole tournament rest all draws...

What i dont understand its ok being flat like indian wickets but last two days its suppose to be spinning like cobras and yet that is not the case...

Even Wasim Khan is fustrated with the pitches. He keeps on talking about the right balance which isn't there in this tournament

Its the first time kookaburra balls are being used along with a lot of other changes so hopefully by the next season pitches will get better. Not to forget last year was another extreme with so many low scores where batsmen cant learn the art of making big scores. There definitely should be a better balance.

That is so true no doubt i agree..but surely the wickets should be spinning . We are in subcontinent after all. I have followed every streamed game of Quaid Trophy but not one i can say has spun.

Unlikely. He isn't even playing for the 2nd XI. Played just 2 matches, Jamal Anwar is now their preferred choice.

I know, it's not likely. I'm just saying they're making a blunder like they were with the other two. Either, Rohail has some serious backing or Northern has no one of staff capable of identifying skill.

The Central Punjab vs Sindh game at least looks like it has something for the bowlers.

The players going to Australia are in terrible nick.

Shafiq was out cheaply again.

Shan Masood continues to be outperformed by Sami Aslam.

Imran Khan and Mohammad Abbas both look completely toothless.

Yasir Shah has a lot of wickets but at a terrible strike rate.

Naseem Shah took 3 wickets, but at a far worse economy rate than Faheem Ashraf in the same innings.

Shaheen Shah Afridi is the only hope with the bowling but he looks nowhere near recovered from injury.

Frankly with the bowling in total disarray you can only hope that Misbah grovels to Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir and asks them to stay on for the Tests after the T20 series.

Maybe Naseems’s ecocnomy was high because the pitch didn’t offer much so he had to think out of the box and be aggressive to get wickets. I would rather take Naseem’s 3 wickets for a 4.5 economy than Faheem’s 1 wicket.

Shaheen is probably fit but not putting in 100% effort yet as this is his first match since the world cup and his dengue fever, he doesn’t want to get injured as fast bowlers are at risk of that in comebacks.

These pitches will definitely separate the mentally tough batsmen from brain farters, Its easy to score double hundreds under these conditions also it will make sure that the bowlers put 100% effort to get wickets and in the process their pace and skills with the kookaburra will surely improve , The only thing I have in my mind is that these pitches should turn a bit more so that we can atleast get a result instead of draws every time. Also a bit more grass won't do harm either.

All in all I would definitely want the pitches to have atleast 10% more assistance for both spinners and pacers. Won't change the result but atleast it will be more interesting.

We will definitely going to produce ODIs FTBs for sure from these pitches. The ball don't move much in Test Cricket either so I think these conditions are more or less fair.

Yasir is bowling really well .he is getting back to rhythm which is good signs for Sl test series

I think PCB should introduce one more team in both division and those teams should be the development squad XIs , The primary league can have a U23 Development squad with 4 mentors in the playing XI while the 2nd Division can have U21 Development squad with 5 mentors in the playing XI , This way they can still be competitive plus all the best young players can get a chance to play with the best.

Good Shahren is getting overs under his belt I believe he needs to play both the warm games to get back in full tilt before brisbane

Finished with 6/78.

But what was his economy? :D

You’re missing my point.

In Tests in Australia from overs 20-80 you don’t blast anybody out.

You have to do what England did in 2010-2011: build pressure by having tall bowlers put together consecutive maiden overs.

McGrath, Clark, Hazlewood have made entire careers by doing this. Ambrose and Wasim Akram did it too, but Waqar and Shoaib were too short to achieve it.

We do have Shaheen Shah for that role , Not every ball playing in Aus has to be taller.

Sure, but he can’t bowl continuously from both ends for 60 overs.

At Brisbane you need much taller bowlers than at Adelaide.

I’d have had Shaheen Shah, Ehsan Adil and Sameen Gul at the Gabba, with Shadab and Faheem bowling a few overs to give them a rest.

Mohammad Abbas and Imran Khan are too short and too slow for the Gabba, while Yasir has failed dismally before at that ground.

You're forgetting that Shoaib and Waqar didn't have a tall action and were slingy, they were slightly round arm and were quite skiddy.

Naseem isn't skiddy, has a tall action and hits the deck hard.

India showed last time that you don't have to be tall if you can hit the deck hard at good pace, which is exactly what Naseem does.

Naseem can bowl dry too. In previous games, his economy was lower when he was taking fewer wickets. He appears to have reasonably good control. However, that will be tested in Australia against batsman of a much higher calibre and conditions he won't be used to.

Regardless, I made that comment because of your comparison of Naseem Shah and Faheem Ashraf's economy rate. There's no comparison between the two. Faheem overall in the QEA Trophy has a higher economy rate anyway.

This is the rate Pakistan will have to bat at in Adelaide if we bat first. Then declare at dinner to bowl under lights.

This is the rate Pakistan will have to bat at in Adelaide if we bat first. Then declare at dinner to bowl under lights.
Precisely, and the important thing is that it’s not the sixth hour, once the sun has set and the floodlights are delivering stable conditions.

It’s the fifth hour, straight after dinner, when the light is changing between every ball.

I still hope they keep Mohammad Amir on after the T20 series just for the Second Test. He did brilliantly with the Pink Ball at Cairns in 2016-17, and he would be lethal at Adelaide. Give him the Pink Ball for that one hour after Dinner and he could very easily deliver a spell of 6-3-10-6.

Just to illustrate the weird conditions which await Pakistan at Adelaide and the need for specialist pink ball bowlers.....

Mohammad Amir has bowled once with a new Pink Ball in Australia under lights before it was fully dark.

He returned figures of

2 overs
1 maiden
3 runs
3 wickets

Give him a new Pink Ball straight after Dinner - preferably with Mohammad Abbas at the other end - and there is a fair chance of getting Australia all out inside 20 overs.

I don’t understand why this QEA round isn’t being played under lights if so many Test players are participating.

That reminds i am sure last year there were day and night matches in Quaide Azam trophy i havent seen any this year

That reminds i am sure last year there were day and night matches in Quaide Azam trophy i havent seen any this year

I believe they were 2 years ago as Pakistan were playing some D/N Tests that year.

Not all grounds have the capability to hold D/N matches anyway.

Naseem Shah 19-2-78-6
Ehsan Adil 15-4-36-2

......in the same innings.

I think that Ehsan’s economy in Australia would have made Naseem more lethal.

I’m pleased for Naseem, but Ehsan Adil’s performance was highly impressive too.

Naseem looks brilliant. Also low-key Kashif Bhatti has performed well, taking wickets and bring very economical. Let's hope Shaheen can recover fully.

I hope in Aus Bhatti and Abbas can keep it tight and we can unleash Naseem and Shaheen in pacy short bursts.

Also fair play to Azhar, he is captaining well and is use using Naseem Shah properly.

Yes, I’m aware of that, but that’s not terribly relevant to the tour of Australia.

In Australia from overs 20-80 you only take wickets by strangling the scoring rate and making the batsmen take risks.

Forget how many wickets they took.

Naseem Shah has an economy rate of 4.11 while in the same innings Ehsan Adil has an economy rate of 2.40.

I think Ehsan Adil is going to be horribly missed when the Aussies go from 60-2 after 20 overs at Brisbane to 300-4 after 80 overs.

I would have liked to have Ehsan Adil and Shaheen Shah using their height to suffocate Australia from one end so that after 80 overs they are 240-7 instead of 300-4.

By all means pick Naseem Shah. But make sure that he can afford to bleed a few runs because none are being scored at the other end.

They aren't playing in Australia, they are playing in Pakistan right now. Obviously Naseem is going to bowl to the current conditions. The pitch was dead and to get wickets he had to be aggressive and with that comes runs.

Your argument isn't making sense because they aren't in Australia right now. They are in the opposite of Australia, low and slow pitches.

I see what your point is, that Pakistan will lack that bit of control in the middle overs without a tall and accurate pacer like Ehsan Adil or Sameen Gul. I personally feel that Naseem is a totally justified pick, but Mohammad Abbas should have been replaced by Ehsan or Sameen. That would mean the pace attack would be Shaheen, Sameen, and Naseem. Shaheen and Sameen are tall, and give that bit of control, while someone like Naseem would have have the space to bleed a few runs while having the license to kill.

Centuries by Sami Aslam and Sohaib Maqsood helped Southern Punjab make a comeback against Northern on day-three of the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy round five, first-class match at the Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot on Wednesday.

Southern Punjab ended the day at 403 for eight in their first innings, 147 runs short of Northern’s first innings total of 550 for six declared, tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day of the match.

On Wednesday, resuming their first innings from the overnight score of 102 for one, Southern Punjab batsmen batted with authority in the first session of play to take the score to 208 for two. Quetta, 30 October 2019:

Adil Amin’s century and half-centuries from captain Sahibzada Farhan, Israrullah and Khalid Usman helped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa avoid follow-on against Balochistan on Day Three of their four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at Quetta’s Bugti Stadium.

In reply of Balochistan’s mammoth 553 for eight, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bowled out for 406 in 103.3 overs – just avoiding the follow-on. This, however, provided Balochistan a healthy first innings lead of 147 runs.

By the close of the third day’s play, the Imran Farhat-led side stretched that advantage to 177 runs for the loss of one wicket as Balochistan were 30 for one in 14.4 overs.

Azeem Ghumman (11) was the batsman to be dismissed, while his opening partner Awais Zia (17) and night-watchman Mohammad Asghar, yet to score a run, were batting when stumps were drawn.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resumed their innings on 150 for no loss.

Farhan added 14 runs to his overnight score before getting dismissed on 86. He faced 124 balls, out of which 11 were hit for fours.

His partner, Israrullah scored 77 before being dismissed. He hit 11 fours and a six in his 111-ball knock.

The openers shared a partnership of 170 runs.

After the fall of the openers, Adil Amin took the responsibility upon his shoulders and played some attractive strokes on his way to an excellent 109.

This was the 28-year-old’s third century at the first-class level.

The right-hander cracked 15 boundaries in his 177-ball stay at the crease as he stitched a useful 119-run stand for the sixth-wicket with Khalid Usman, who cracked an 84-ball 56 with the help of nine fours, before Yasir Shah accounted for his wicket.

Australia-bound Yasir took four wickets for 111 runs, bowling 35 overs. Left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar was the other bowler to grab eyeballs as he returned four for 10

By crossing the 400-run mark inside 110 overs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bagged the maximum batting points (5). Balochistan also got the maximum bowling points (3) for taking nine or more wickets.

Scores in brief:

Balochistan 553-8 declared, 145.4 overs (Imran Butt 214, Imran Farhat 134, Bismillah Khan 75, Awais Zia 69; Sajid Khan 3-126, Imran Khan Sr. 2-87) and 30-1, 14.4 over (Awais Zia 17 not out)

A second career five-wicket haul by fast-bowler Naseem Shah helped Central Punjab to put a stranglehold over Sindh on Day Three of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

The 16-year-old returned figures of 19-2-78-6 as Sindh were dismissed for 256 after starting the penultimate day at the overnight score of 196 for four in reply to Central Punjab’s 313.

After securing a 57-run first innings lead, Central Punjab further consolidated their position by finishing the day at 192 for two as the visitors led by 249 with eight wickets standing.

Salman Butt was batting at 90 (12x4, 154b) and looks all set for his 24th first-class century, while Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali was out after a scoring 90 (15x4, 145b). The two batsmen added 175 runs for the second wicket after Ahmed Shehzad (0) had departed at the score of 11.

When Azhar Ali reached 31, he completed 12,000 first-class runs in his 192nd match.

However, the day belonged to Naseem, who was playing his final first-class match before leaving for Australia next week for the World Test Championship Tests.

After picking up the scalps of Khurram Manzoor, Abid Ali and Omair Bin Yousuf on Tuesday, he added the wickets of Fawad Alam (92), Sarfaraz Ahmed (0) and Sohail Khan (0) to take his tally of event wickets to 15 – the most by a fast bowler to date.

This was also the first five-fer by a fast bowler in the first-class season.

“It was fantastic to get a six-fer in the lead up to the Australia tour as it has boosted my confidence tremendously,” Naseem said, adding: “I had come into this match feeling on top of my game and I am delighted I was able to translate that optimism into performance.

“Prior to this match, I had spoken with Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis, and both had advised me to go flat out, bowl long spells and give my very best. I am pleased that I was able to bowl fast with controlled swing and accuracy.

“Faisalabad wicket doesn’t always offer much support to the fast bowlers, but I am glad I was able to get something out of it, both with the new and old ball against a good opposition.

“You always want to enter into any important assignment oozing with confidence, and I am pleased this match has given me that extra motivation and confidence that I can perform at an international stage.”

Earlier, Fawad Alam added 14 runs to the overnight score of 78 to be dismissed for 92. His 164-ball innings included 13 fours. Saad Ali added 21 runs this morning before falling to Ehsan Adil after scoring 81 from 153 balls with 11 fours.

The two batsmen had added 160 runs for the fifth-wicket to rescue Sindh from a precarious 72 for four.

The late order batsmen, however, failed to continue their good work as Sindh was bowled out for 256 after managing to add 60 runs to their overnight score.

After the first innings, Central Punjab has collected three batting and three bowling points, while Sindh has pocketed two batting and three bowling points.

Scores in brief:

Central Punjab 313 all-out, 95.5 overs (Kamran Akmal 90, Ahmed Shehzad 60, Faheem Ashraf 52, Usman Salahuddin 38, Ehsan Adil 25; Kashif Bhatti 3-99, Mir Hamza 2-46, Sohail Khan 2-72, Tabish Khan 2-80) and 192-2 (Salman Butt 90 not out, Azhar Ali 90; Sohail Khan 1-27, Kashif Bhatti 1-45)

Sindh 256 all-out, 74.4 overs (Fawad Alam 92, Saad Ali 81, Omair Bin Yousaf 33; Naseem Shah 6-78, Ehsan Adil 2-36)
