Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020/21 | Round 8 | December 14-17, 2020 | Matches Thread

Saud shakil needed to average 60 plus tbis season with more than 4 hundreds this season.

He has gone missing a lot and will probably delay his chance in the pakistan cricket team.

Gifted his wicket yesterday after looking like getting a certain hundred.

Central Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sealed comfortable wins over Balochistan and Southern Punjab, respectively, on the penultimate day of the eighth round of the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on Wednesday.

Central Punjab recorded their third consecutive victory as the defending champions chased down a meagre 47 at the loss of one wicket inside 13.5 overs at the State Bank Stadium. Ali Zaryab, who became the first batsman from his side to record a century this season in the first innings, was unbeaten on 22 as he took Central Punjab over the line in the afternoon session.

Their captain Hasan Ali completed his second five-wicket haul of the match earlier in the day as Balochistan were bowled out for 285 in their second innings after they were forced to follow-on yesterday.

The right-arm pacer took five wickets for 76 runs – two coming on the third day. His match figures were 10 for 108.

Balochistan had a deficit of 109 runs as they were 130 for six at the start of play but half-centuries from Umaid Asif (69) and Jalat Khan (65) ensured that Central Punjab batted again.

Following the impressive win, Central Punjab have jumped to 102 points as they bagged 26 points – 16 for outright win, four for batting and six for bowling – from the match.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa consolidated their position as the leaders of the six-team points table with a thumping 10-wicket win against Southern Punjab at the UBL Sports Complex. The victory added 23 points – 16 for outright win, three for batting and four for bowling – to their tally.

Sajid Khan’s fifth five-wicket haul of the season and captain Khalid Usman’s three for 79 restricted Southern Punjab to 290 in their reply of a daunting 487.

Aamer Yamin, with a scorching 55-ball 93, which included eight sixes and as many fours, was the top-scorer, while opener Zain Abbas added 12 runs to his overnight score before he was dismissed on 76 by Sajid.

With a lead of 197 runs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa enforced follow-on, a decision which yielded the desired result as a three-fer from Khalid and two wickets each from Sajid and Fakhar Zaman bundled out Southern Punjab for 200.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa required four runs to win, which Musadiq Ahmed (six not out) chased down in three balls.

That Southern Punjab reached 200 was due to Mohammad Umair’s 77 (102, 11 fours). The next best score in the innings was from Saif Badar, who scored 26.

At the National Stadium, Sindh, who are placed at the bottom of the points table, were six wickets away from registering a victory with an innings margin as Northern had a 185-run second innings deficit at the close of play.

In front of broadcast cameras, Sindh captain Asad Shafiq lifted his side to a mammoth 514 for eight (declared) with a classy century before Northern, batting for the second time in the match, were reduced to 126 for four.

Asad converted his overnight score of 46 to 117 not out – his 25th first-class century. The 34-year-old smashed 13 fours in the 191 balls he faced.

Saad Ali turned his 23 not out to 44 before he was dismissed by Mohammad Nawaz, who recorded his second five-wicket haul with five for 108.

Northern’s Faizan Riaz and Hammad Azam were the only notable run-getters on the penultimate day of the contest with the scores of 31 and 25 not out. Azizullah, Shahnawaz Dhani and Abrar Ahmed picked up a wicket each.

When the play resumes on the fourth and final morning of the match, Hammad will be joined by Mubasir Khan (one not out).

Mubasir nearing his 100 too, I’d say it’s an even better innings so far given that he also has the pressure of it being his first class debut. Very stylish player.

Mubasir Khan - just two second XI games, promoted after back to back man of the tournament awards in U19 cricket (one day and three day). Got a 9-fer in one of those two and promoted to the first XI immediately, now a century under pressure in his first match.

Wait....... They're still batting. Has the pitch flattened out?

Outstanding from both batsman.

yea thats him.

Valiant centuries by debutant Mubasir Khan and Hammad Azam helped Northern remain on the second spot in the six-team points table as their eighth round first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture against Sindh ended in a draw at the National Stadium.

Mubasir, playing his maiden first-class match after a fantastic run with Northern U19 and Northern Second XI sides, smashed a magnificent 164. Over the course of his 241-ball knock, the 18-year-old right-handed batsman crunched 24 boundaries in front of the broadcast cameras, which telecasted live action in Pakistan and beamed stream across the globe through PCB’s YouTube channel.

He was duly supported by Hammad from the other end who smashed a 226-ball 145. This was the all-rounder’s second century in the season and following this knock, Hammad is now positioned second in the list of the batsmen with most runs with 787 runs at 65.58.

Northern had a 185-run second innings deficit with six wickets in hand when play resumed on Thursday, the fourth and final morning of the match, with Hammad Azam and 18-year-old Mubasir at the crease on 25 and one, respectively.

Following a gutsy 294-run alliance between two Northern finished at 423 for six in 120 overs at the close of play.

Pacer Shahnawaz Dhani dismissed both Mubasir and Hammad.

Sindh racked up 14 points from the match and jumped a place to the fifth spot. In the next round, which will run from 20-23 December, they play third-ranked Southern Punjab at the State Bank Stadium.

Northern, who pocketed seven points, will play Balochistan, who slipped to the bottom of the points table following a nine-wicket defeat to Central Punjab.

The National Stadium will host a broadcast fixture between table-toppers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and fourth-placed Central Punjab.

Shehzar Mohammad, Asad Shafiq fined for code of conduct breaches

Karachi, 18 December 2020:

Sindh’s Shehzar Mohammad has been fined 75 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel during his side’s drawn match against Northern in the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the National Stadium.

Shehzar was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct, which reads as: “Showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during a Match”.

The incident happened in the 74th over of Northern’s second innings on the fourth and final day of the match on Thursday, when Shehzar, after a caught behind appeal being turned down, expressed his disappointment at the decision.

This was his second offence of the Article in as many matches. All second offences in Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of 70 per cent fine up to two-match suspension.

In a separate incident, Sindh’s captain Asad Shafiq has been fined 20 per cent of his match-fee for violating Article 2.3, which reads as: “Use of audible obscenity”.

At the completion of the 52nd over of Northern’s second innings, Asad uttered an offensive remark in frustration.

The first offences in Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official warning and/or imposition of a fine of up to 70 per cent of the applicable match fee.

Both Shehzar and Asad, after the day’s play, pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Iftikhar Ahmed. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Shozab Raza and third umpire Asif Yaqoob.
