New Delhi: Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi today launched a blistering attack on the Prime Minister on foreign policy, accusing him of "bringing China and Pakistan" together. In a speech slamming the BJP-government, Mr Gandhi said that the country has been surrounded by adversaries on all sides and is isolated in the region. "The nation is at risk from outside and inside. and I don't like that. This worries me," he added. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar responded on Twitter by listing four instances of China and Pakistan working together when The BJP was not in power. "Perhaps, some history lessons are in order," he said, taking a dig at Mr Gandhi.

"The strategic goal of India should have been to keep China and Pakistan separate. But what you have done is to bring them together. Do not underestimate what we are facing. This is a serious threat to India," he said.

Bilateral relations between Pakistan and China have strengthened, especially after the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was launched in 2015. The relationship extends beyond an economic partnership, to increasing military cooperation between the two nations involving arms deals, joint exercises, and defence pacts. Pakistan's largest nuclear power plant, which was inaugurated last year, was built in Karachi with Chinese assistance. The two countries have a Free Trade Agreement.

China had also said that it is ready to deepen "friendly and cooperative" relations with Afghanistan after the Taliban seized control of the country. Formal recognition of the new government, which many expect to happen soon, will also help China protect strategic investments in bordering Pakistan. Many experts believe the Taliban had assistance from the Pakistan security establishment in their training to take over Afghanistan.

Responding to the accusation, Dr Jaishankar listed instances of China and Pakistan working together when the Congress was in power at the centre.

"Rahul Gandhi alleged in Lok Sabha that it is this Government which brought Pakistan and China together. Perhaps, some history lessons are in order," he said on Twitter and cited four instances.

"In 1963, Pakistan illegally handed over the Shaksgam valley to China.

China built the Karakoram highway through PoK in the 1970s.

From the 1970s, the two countries also had close nuclear collaboration.

In 2013, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor started," he added.

The Congress MP also claimed that India didn't have a guest for Republic Day this year because the country is "completely isolated and surrounded". "We are surrounded in Nepal, Afghanistan, China," he said, calling it "the single biggest crime against the people of India".

Dr Jaishankar, in another tweet, clarified that foreign guests were not physically present because of the pandemic and that they held a virtual summit on January 27. Taking a swipe at Mr Gandhi's foreign trips, he said that "those who live in India" know that we are in the midst of a pandemic.

"In Lok Sabha, RahulGandhi said we could not get a foreign guest for Republic Day. Those who live in India know we were in the midst of a corona wave.

The 5 Central Asian Presidents, who were to come, did hold a virtual summit on Jan 27. Did Rahul Gandhi miss that as well?" he said.

"It is very clear that the Chinese and Pakistanis are planning. Look at the weapons they are buying, look at the way they are talking. We have made a massive blunder and I am absolutely sure we can defend against the Chinese," he said.

Not just external threats, Mr Gandhi also said that the country has been "weakened" and "our institutions are under attack".

"We made a huge strategic mistake in Jammu and Kashmir," he said, possibly referring to the reading down of Article 370 that revoked the special status granted to the state. He also said that conflicts are on the rise in border states.

New Delhi: The US "wouldn't endorse" Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's comment in parliament on India's foreign policy, the State Department spokesperson has said.

Mr Gandhi while criticising the government over a range of issues yesterday had blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for following a flawed policy, both domestic and international, that has led to the creation of "two Indias".

"Ask yourself why you are not able to get a guest on Republic Day. We are completely isolated and surrounded... You have brought Pakistan and China together and this is the single biggest crime you could have committed against the people of India," Mr Gandhi said.

On a question by reporters to US State Department spokesperson Ned Price over ties between Pakistan and China in the context of Mr Gandhi's comment, he said he "would not endorse those remarks".

"I will leave it to the Pakistanis and the PRC to speak to their relationship. I certainly would not - would not endorse those remarks," Mr Price said, adding countries are not needed to choose between the US and China. PRC is short for People's Republic of China.

American partnership, however, has a series of advantages, Mr Price said, adding Pakistan is a "strategic partner of the United States".

"We've made the point all along that it is not a requirement for any country around the world to choose between the United States and China. It is our intention to provide choices to countries when it comes to what the relationship with the United States looks like. And we think the partnership with the United States conveys a series of advantages that countries typically would not find when it comes to the sorts of partnerships that - partnerships may be the wrong term - the sorts of relationships that the PRC has sought to have around the world," Mr Price said.

Mr Gandhi while participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on the President's address in Lok Sabha claimed that PM Modi brought Pakistan and China together and called it the "single biggest crime that you could commit against the people of India".

"The Chinese have a very clear vision of what they want to do. The single biggest strategic goal of India's foreign policy has been to keep Pakistan and China separate. What you have done is, you have brought them together," he said.

The BJP attacked Rahul Gandhi over the speech, accusing him of making a "directionless, confused speech" without any understanding of India's history.

The biggest joker in indian politics..

His grandfather's disastrous foreign policies are there for everyone to see

Every court needs a jester and every nation a clown.

Rahul Gandhi is India's national Clown.

Unfortunately, he is also single-handedly destroying Indian democracy. His party is the only one that can provide a national alternative to the BJP and he has brought it to a situation where nobody wants it around.

Just wish he would quit and give a new life to Congress , was absolutely ironic when he said Congress ended “Kings”.

Irrespective I see a lot of middle class anger at BJP for the budget but people will not vote for congress unless this clown quits.

India to boycott Beijing Winter Olympics after China makes Galwan PLA soldier torchbearer

India on Thursday announced a diplomatic ban on the Beijing Winter Olympics after Beijing decided to have Qi Fabao, a PLA regiment commander who sustained head injury while fighting in the Galwan Valley border skirmish with India, as torchbearer during the ‘Torch Relay’.

He’s getting lot of praise in media for some recent speech

What speech?
He don't know anything about history.

China conducted Pak's 1st nuke bomb at Lop Nor in 1984/85 - forcing RajivG to commence India's weaponization.
Pak also ceded 30% of PoK to China in the 1970s.

He is absolutely correct. Modi has indeed united Pak and China. I don't know why Indian people are so upset about Rahul pointing out the obvious.

Any hope that the believers of RSS ideology may have had of creating a united pre-partition India has vanished like a **** in the wing.

You may find it hard to believe but apart from a handful of hard core Hindtuva nutjobs, most people in the RSS/BJP don't want any re-unification with Pakistan.

There are probably more Pakistanis dreaming about gazwa-e-hind and making all hindus their slaves than that.

WASHINGTON: For the first time in years, the United States emphasised its strategic partnership with Pakistan, clarifying that Islamabad does not need to strain its relations with China to maintain ties with Washington.

The US-Pakistan relationship came up for discussion at a State Department briefing on Wednesday afternoon when a journalist referred to a recent statement by Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi who blamed the BJP government in India for pushing Pakistan into the Chinese camp.

“Does the State Department agree with Mr Gandhi’s assessment?” the journalist asked.

The department’s spokesperson Ned Price, however, refused to get involved in an Indian parliamentary debate, saying: “I will leave it to the Pakistanis and China to speak to their relationship. I certainly would not endorse those remarks.”

“Why do you think Pakistan is working so closely with China? Do you think they feel abandoned by the US?” the journalist asked again. This question, however, received a comprehensive response from the US official.

State Department’s spokesperson says Islamabad does not need to strain its ties with Beijing

“We’ve made the point all along that it is not a requirement for any country around the world to choose between the United States and China,” Mr Price said. “It is our intention to provide choices to countries when it comes to what the relationship with the United States looks like.”

The US official explained that partnership with the United States brings a series of advantages that China could not offer.

“Partnership may be the wrong term. The sorts of relationships that China has sought to have around the world do not (include those) typical advantages” that the United States offered, he added.

Moving to the decades’ long relationship between Pakistan and the United States, Mr Price said: “Pakistan is a strategic partner of the United States. We have an important relationship with the government in Islamabad, and it’s a relationship that we value across a number of fronts.”

Pakistan was a close US ally during the cold war that began in the sixties and remained so till the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Pakistan played a key role in the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan and partnered with the United States in the war against terrorism as well.

The relationship soured when Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was found in Abbottabad and the Obama administration took him out without informing Pakistan. Their relationship has remained strained since then, although bilateral consultations, even high-level visits by Pakistani rulers to Washington, have continued.

In July 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan made an “official working” visit to Washington where he met the then president Donald Trump at the White House. He had another meeting with Mr Trump in New York during the UN General Assembly in September 2019.

Since then, there has been no face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the two countries and the current US President Joe Biden is yet to make a courtesy call to the Pakistani prime minister.

Despite these tensions, the relationship has continued, minus the fanfare of a summit. Pakistan extended full support to both the Trump and Biden administrations during their talks with the Taliban and facilitated the evacuation of US personnel from Afghanistan after the Taliban captured Kabul in August last year.

In recent years, China has emerged as the key factor in US foreign policies as Washington seeks to contain Beijing’s growing influence.

US policy makers see India as a key player in containing China’s influence and in their efforts to please India, they often ignore Pakistan’s interests, even on issues like Kashmir.

The United States, however, still recognises Kashmir as a disputed territory and not as an integral part of India, as New Delhi desires.

Some recent developments — such as India’s decision to abstain from a UN Security Council vote on Ukraine and a missile deal with Russia — apparently have also softened the US attitude towards Pakistan.

BJP reminds Rahul Gandhi mother's 'maut ka saudagar’ gaffe for blaming PM Narendra Modi for WC loss

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Indian cricket team's loss against Australia in the World Cup final, saying his remark reflected the values his family imbibed in him.

"Rahul Gandhi is a bad omen (panauti) for 140 crore Indians who ousted him and his family from power and unearthed their scams... I am feeling sorry for Rahul Gandhi who has received such values from his family that resulted in him using abusive words against the country's prime minister... I condemn his remark," BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said.

"What happened to you, Rahul Gandhi? You are using such words for the prime minister of the country. Our Prime Minister met the players and motivated them. Winning or losing is part of the game. Rahul Gandhi needs to apologise," Prasad said.

He also reminded Gandhi of his mother's old remark.

"You need to learn from the past. Your mother (Sonia Gandhi) used the word 'Maut ka saudagar' (dealer of deaths) for Narendra Modi and see where the Congress is now," he added.

Rahul Gandhi, in an election rally in Rajasthan, said it was due to Modi's presence that India lost the match.

"Our guys were playing well, they would have won the world cup. But 'Panauti' made us lose. The TV guys won't tell you this but people know," Rahul said, while campaigning at Rajasthan's Barmer on Monday, without naming PM Modi.
