What's new

Rain puts an early end to play on Day 2 of the 3rd Test with India on 62/2

Agrawal should have opened in his natural position.

Gill should have batted at no. 5 when the ball gets older. India got it wrong

Pat cummins is 10 times the bowler starc is these days.
Should always get the new ball.

Starc is just inconsistent. When in form , starc can be the best.
He has more skill than Cummins. Ability to reverse swing and all the variations.

Now overcast condition , nothing going india way in this series still we are giving fight to Aussies on their home soil . remarkable

So relieved to see the 36 run mark being breached. Scars from the 1st test still fresh. It is going to rain in an hour and the 3rd session may be washed out or severely curtailed. This match seems to be heading towards a draw.

Good batting from India. Rohit looked a bit uneasy. But has batted much better than expected

Don't think it's raining.

Question for indian fans: why is Shreyas Iyer not selected in test? He looks like a good player

Rohit plays his usual customary nothing shot and gets out. he lost india a chance to win sydney test and now putting pressure on others.
Such an ordinary and dumb test batsman

Rohit should be banned from tests for this brain ****, should have capitalize after negotiating the new ball especially massively depleted bowling attack we have

It’s ok it’s not the swing king jimmy anderson bowling or broad these aussies couldn’t swing a boomerang

Rohit just threw away the series haha. What a brain fade.

I'm guessing guys like you would have been - got a good ball - if he or your favorite batsman got out early.

Today Rohit kept out those good balls and with an ease superior to even the more supposedly technically sound Pujara.

Rohit in test cricket is like VVS. He will play unbelievable innings that some of your more consistent darlings never can :vk

Either you are right or every weather site wrong. Anyways cricinfo just mentioned there is a storm brewing nearby. The 3rd session may be a very short one. Also rain forecast on 4th and 5th day too. So if India bat sensibly this match is going to head towards a draw. Even betting sites have odds lessed from 4.00 at the start of the match to 2.50 now.

Maybe they think its last session . someone remind them its 2nd session of 2nd day . score some runs

McGrath just said cloud going other way so minimum chance of rain

What is wrong for a keen student of the game to do a little bit of technical analysis. We do it here all the time. Better than Wasim "lock the wrist" and "shiny side" Akram at least.

Yes you and I do it here as armchair experts but I don't need ****** fantasy analysis in the commentary box. Agreed Wasim, Waqar and especially Ramiz (Ramiz is Harsha level of irritating but for other reasons) are horrible too and I take no delight in listening to them also. There is an art to being a nonplaying commentator. When a person like that forgets their place and starts talking about what so and so should do in a situation instead of describing the situation and engaging the experts for added comments it becomes irritating as hell. It's like acting like a pilot when you have never even flown as a passenger.

I can’t believe am saying this but we need to continue with Rohit and agree he is staying against the new ball and also scores at a faster rate, the one time when he is lucky he ll make the difference

please keep your garbage darling lol.. he does not have sense that he needs to play one or 2 overs for end of days play in sydney and same here close to tea ..

If India does manage a draw the moot question is does this series trump the 2018-19 winning campaign even though we have leveled it this time. My answer is yes considering the depleted resources used and Aussies fielding a full strength team.

A resounding yes.

Pattinson should have been playing ahead of Starc who is woefully out of form.

Pattinson and Cummins opening the attack would have been a banger.

Its currently raining cats and dogs. BCCI have just tweeted a 5 sec video. The restart will not take place any time soon.

The Gabba has excellent drainage facilities. There is no rain forecast tomorrow. We may only lose an hour each on Monday and Tuesday. So a draw is not a foregone conclusion though its the most likely result if India bat sensibly in this innings and score anywhere close to Australia

We deserve some luck with the rain the way we fought this series with pretty much everything going against us right from tosses to injuries.

A 1-1 draw will be a fair reflection of this series. :sachin

Rohit Sharma doesn't have patience,
He is usually in two minds when he plays a loose ball. If he used his full power in that stroke it would have been a six.
Hadd hai yaar

Seriously, that was unfortunate and disappointing to watch.
It was a nothing ball and he just had a brain ****.

He was timing the ball so good. I was hoping for a double century once he would fully set in.

Rain could be a man of the match for us here.

Play abandoned for the day:

Earlier start tomorrow: 10:30am AEDT/9:30am local/5:00am IST

Stop crying about Rohit, Pant.

That's how they play and it's not going to change. Eventually either they will be successful at it like Sehwag or would be found out.

Nathan Lyon's drive to 400 wickets will resume on Sunday (17 January) after rain stopped play on day two of the fourth Test, with India trailing Australia's first-innings total of 369 by 307 runs.

India were 62/2 at tea, with Cheteshwar Pujara (8*) and Ajinkya Rahane (2*) the not-out batsmen, but play couldn't restart after the break as torrential rain lashed the Gabba.

Australia had resumed at 274/5 on Saturday, with Marnus Labuschagne's 108 the highlight of day one.

Tim Paine and Cameron Green, on 38 and 28 respectively overnight, took the total to 311 before Paine departed for 50. The skipper was well caught by Rohit Sharma at second slip off the bowling of Shardul Thakur, and Green quickly followed, bowled by debutant Washington Sundar for 47.

The tail provided some handy runs – Lyon added 24 and Mitchell Starc was not out on 20 – but it was a valiant bowling effort by the already-undermanned tourists, who lost seamer Navdeep Saini to a groin strain on day one.

Sundar (3/89), fellow debutant T Natarajan (3/78), and Shardul Thakur (3/94), playing in his second Test, all impressed as India took 95/5 in the morning session to have Australia all out at lunch.

Starc and Josh Hazlewood opened the bowling thereafter, but it was Pat Cummins who got the breakthrough with just his second delivery, Shubman Gill edging one to second slip where Steve Smith took a sharp catch.

Rohit Sharma had looked comfortable on his way to 44 before he became Lyon's 397th Test wicket. Playing in his 100th Test, Lyon coaxed a rash shot from Sharma, who advanced down the wicket only to hole out to Starc, who ran in from long-on to take a good catch.

With the series tied at 1-1, Lyon looms as a key factor as Australia attempt to claim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a win in Brisbane. India can retain the coveted trophy with a win or a draw.

Play on the third day will start 30 minutes earlier than previously scheduled to make up for lost time.

13 wickets in the total team. 2 debutant bowlers and they still bowl out Australia for 369.

Why are Pakistani bowlers so impotent that they struggle to take 5 wickets in the first innings without conceding 450 in Australia?

Some good bowling from India to take down Oz back 5 quite cheaply - great zip from their quicks.

India test championship scenario:
if this test is a draw then 3-0 win vs england will be enough. but can't lose any.

For Aus:
if Aus tour of SA doesn't happen then they are safe, if it does then they need to win 2 out of 3 in SA.

Rohit is one of my favorite batsmen, honey :shh

Great comeback. All bowlers debuted this series. Some net bowlers who won't play Tests again but showed huge character

Would have been a perfect day if Rohit was not stupid.Gavaskar's comment summed up my frustration(and for those who think he favours Mumbai players, please listen)

Need to match the score atleast as we bat last.

Don't club the two.Pant already has 2 overseas tons and a 97.Rohit at 34 throws away starts

The Aussies played some really tired shots in their first innings. I think fatigue is really setting in for their core players. It's weird but India having some fresh and eager faces might help them a bit as the match goes on.
