Just saw the movie - thought it was decent but the ending was garbage IMO.

Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kangna Renaut and even the British Major did a great job in acting.

Related to it - it kinda had me thinking on the topic of British Rule over the subcontinent.

In hindsight - was Britain leaving the subcontinent a good decision or would we have been better off still under British rule? I lean towards the latter as many of the issues and instability we have today would not have occutred under British rule IMO

I just googled it and it seems pretty awful. It is Bollywood after all

Looks worse than a B movie TBH. No wonder Bollywood starts with a B. B probably stands for B movie

Remarkable that you give a lecture on generalizing in other threads but make sure to do it over here.

Since you want to criticize the movie ,why not check these before commenting about the cinema?

I don't necessarily watch Indian or Pakistani movies unless and until they are a feature film without songs and dance  - which is why my collection of desi movies is extremely less.....

BTW...What is with those songs and dance :sanga - Hate them !!

Gotta have people in groove to continue watching the movie.

Why doesnt someone ban this ghatiya industry called bollywood and spare us from all this trash. Sad that the culture of an entire nation has been polluted by a mafia controlled, money driven classless industry feeding off indians desire for fair skin.

I had the same preception until my Indian friend gifted me DVDs of some good films. There are good film made in Bollywood. Most of the films released in a year are trash but some are real quality.

These are Fun films just like fun cricket for people who want to pass time.

On a serious note, to say that bollywood only serves trash is going OTT . they need to cut down on songs. The songs in the movies really ruin it for me personally. But i guess they cater to the demands of their own audience. Srk tried something different with FAN, no songs nothing, good acting, story could have been better but overall it was a good movie. Guess what, it flopped even with SRK's name attached to it. Indians in general aren't ready to watch good thought provoking, non-masala, songless movies.

Unfortunately, Pakistan's resurgent film industry, instead of making an identity of its own, is falling prey to bollywood's influence. Same rubbish songs, over use of dramatic sound effects, depicting people with lifestyles which are not common in Pakistan, girls used for glamour rather than their acting abilities which are actually impressive in Pakistan from what i have seen etc , not cool. There are a few good movies in between though. Pakistani television dramas are really impressive and the film industry should follow suit.

The question is, has the Pakistani public developed a taste for bollywood style movies over the years just like Indian public when it own industry was defunct?? If that's the case be ready for more masala movies.

The songs have already been cut down on most movies which have an "indie director" associated with it,the problem is why should they cut down songs, songs are not an issue when they story moves forward with them, this concept was basically brought in by Guru Dutt long ago but then again during the 70's era it became a showpiece.

The songs, lyrics are what make the Bombay cinema unique, if not why won't i just go watch a good European/off beat Indian movie.
I have no idea why dance is there but i'm guessing that's what makes it get a "weird" global appeal.

The more the cinema tries to be like hollywood the more it will fail, that's why guys like Amir Khan are serious boon to the cinema they realize they need to make something local and have content as well. The point about Fan would hold good had Dangal,PK,3 Idiots failed but they didn't. Similarly movies like OMG,Vicky Donor,Chak De,Swades,Piku,Queen have done well inspite of songs ,the content and its presentation are everything.

By songs i mean the 4-5 pointless songs where everybody starts dancing and all like u also mentioned. I know these songs are what make bollywood different but i personally think they can do away with them. A theme song which goes well with the movie and is used occasionally during the movie is fine and even hollywood uses it.

Its not just about the songs though. Its also about the other ingredients as well which are important from the financial POV but unnecessary otherwise.

Pk, dangal , 3 idiots all had some pointless dance songs as well which were unnecessary. The movies did well because of actually being good. All of them (haven't seen dangal yet) had the ingredients of a typical bollywood movie (pointless songs, unneccesary romantic angle etc) which Indians are used to seeing and accept wholeheartedly, albeit with a good story. Without those ingredients, those movies might not have been such mega hits in India.

The question arises why should bollywood take those ingredients out ? Here i agree that they dont have to. They are catering to their audience , giving them what they want to watch , sometimes good stuff wrapped around unnecessary stuff but personally speaking, would prefer a movie to be to the point.

That's fair enough and tbh it was something that i believed when i was in college and because of 2000-2005 somehow had developed a massive dislike for bollywood movies(also major exposure to Hollywood).

But i think the to the point movies have their place being done in like Piku,Badlapur but others too have their place.
Similar to superhero movies which always end up in New york and some destruction and story girl/guy(all spiderman movies).

I remember when i was in college and i wanted to go for an English movie in the special "box seats" and a friend of mine was like I won't pay 300 bucks for a movie that gets over in 1 and half hr :)) so yeah its about catering to a particular audience as you mentioned.
