Saeed Anwar 8.3

Saeed Anwar didn't play as many games as the other names on the list however he was best opener in the 90s which was the hardest era for batsmen going by the batting average (between 37-38) which was the lowest since the 1930s. In comparison the 2000s and 2010s so far have been far easier to bat on.

Lol at Anwar getting rated below Younus and Inzi. May i remind everyone that Anwar was an opener. May i also remind everyone that Anwar averaged almost 60 vs full strength Australian attack comprising of McGrath and Warne. Inzimam, in comparison, was just about average vs the best test team of the era.

Anwar averaged 45 as an opener in tests. He was arguably the best test opening batsman from any country in the 90's and at worst, amongst the top 3 test openers of the decade.

The only thing that Inzi and YK have over Anwar is they both have double hundreds and they played more cricket. To me, averaging 45 as an opener is just as impressive as averaging 50 plus as a no 4/5 batsmen. Anwar should not rank below YK or Inzi, he should rank either on par with them or slightly ahead of them.

When the team is under pressure situation, I will take only four of them.:moyo2

And in pressure situations even in limited overs, I will take Younis as well over one of them.

Yousuf has done much more than saeed in tests, don't u think its unfair to put them in same category.

Yeah, you're right. Yousuf is closer to an '8' than a '7.5' in tests.

Not saying you're wrong but do you have evidence for your theory of Yousuf being unable to handle pressure? He was amazing in England under pressure and played a fine, match-winning innings against India in the Champions Trophy. Yeah, he might not have a good WC record but he's not the first with that achilles' heel.

Yes, I always felt he used to crumble under pressure. In tests, when the back was against the wall, he would leave the hard yards for Inzy and Younis to cover most of the times. However, he had an absolutely legendary 2006 where he smashed plenty of runs on some really flat wickets. He was a good player of swing and as a result succeeded in England and New Zealand while some of his home pitches during his era were really flat ones, which is why he averages 63 at home.

The same was the story of his limited overs game. He was a part of three 50-overs World Cup tournaments but failed to surpass a single score of 50 in any tournaments against non-minnows. He played Australia, England, India and failed against everyone in 2003 WC. Nothing changed in 2007 as well.

He was also terrible while chasing totals. If I recall very well, there were many instances of Pakistan chasing big totals during the phase between 1999-2009 because they used to play a lot on flat wickets during that time and Moyo used to fail far more than delivers. Out of his 15 hundreds, only 2 came while chasing.

In terms of his appearance and his game in limited overs , he was similar to Hashim Amla although Amla still has done better than Moyo in ICC tourneys in lesser chances and his inning against world champions of the same WC, India, was better than anything Moyo did in that tournament.
