Ashwin in the last 3 IPLs has taken 32 wickets in 45 matches at an average of 42+. How he gets into the squad remains a mystery to me. Oh yea I forgot he's a self proclaimed thinking cricketer, who ends up playing for different team every IPL as somehow his thinking process adds no value to anyone. I may get trolled as he may end up taking 2-3 wickets today but that won't change the fact that the guy is no good for t20 cricket. The only thing I like about him though is that he's the only Indian cricketer perhaps who's desperate to prove himself, while most others bask in self glory.

He is a extremely poor T20ls bowler. And his continued selection reflects how poor is the team selection.

He is selected because

1. The main spin option, Chahal is as bad as him and is a poor fielder and a proper no.11 with batting average of 2.5. Both him and Bumrah were proper no.11 but look how much Bumrah has improved his batting while Chahal can't even score 5 runs if 6 balls left.

2. Sri Lanka has lot of left handed batsman and off spinner is important. Ashwin has got variations and he will be useful against them. Playing two leg spinner is asking for trouble against a team like SL with so many lefties.

Hehe his record against left handed batsmen is as pathetic as against right hand batsmen. The only pitches where he takes wickets is on tailor made spin friendly pitches for him and jadeja where literally any decent spinner could take wickets.

Chahal is a wicket taking bowler. The only wicket taking bowler in the line up.

For a wrist spinner, his success rate is not good as compared to other Asian spinners. Ashwin is not important vs other teams but vs left handers, he has been excellent with his variations so worth a go. Picked a wicket too.

There is an irritating article in Cricinfo like aswin as mother of T20 invention blah blah

R. Ashwin has reportedly asked Chennai Super Kings to release him ahead of IPL 2026.
If he moves, which team do you want to see him in next season
