Even today Nazia’s songs continue to mesmerise millions of her fans.
Fifteen years ago on this day, Pakistan lost a legend; Nazia Hassan was the epitome of a true star. Dubbed the 'Queen of Pop', Hassan's contribution to Pakistani music was mammoth and she changed the map of the industry for other women and opened doors for females no one thought even existed.

She wasn't any less popular across the border -- Her song Aap Jaisa Koi which she sang at the age of 15 for the Indian film Qurbani (1980) became one of the biggest hits in Bollywood film music and Nazia went on to become the first Pakistani to win a Filmfare award. To this day, she is the youngest recipient of the award from the Best Female Playback Singer category.

Soon after came Disco Deewane, an album in which her brother Zoheb also collaborated on vocals with her.

Fifteen years ago, the beautiful, graceful Nazia lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 35. She may be gone but she is far from forgotten:

Fans from all over the globe acknowledged the impact she made on the fraternity.

Some decided to take a trip down memory lane and listen to some of their favourites.

Heartfelt messages poured in on social media.

But the truly heart-shattering message came from her brother.

It is evident that Hassan lives on in the hearts of millions of people, whose lives she touched with her music.

Pakistan lost a gem on this day :(

A wonderful singer, beautiful and talented in equal measure. She was probably more popular among us Indians than she was with her own compatriots.

She died too young. Very tragic.

She was a superstar on both sides of the border, and redefined the pop culture in Pakistan. Disco Deewane had a massive impact for generations to come.

Beautiful voice, looks, personality - she had it all. What a tragedy.

The 90s was great for Pak music.

The death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world. - Edgar Allan Poe

She was the queen of the urdu/hindi pop songs, when it was soothing hearing hindi pops. "AAAahhh BOOm BOOM" ringing in my head.

The original subcontinent's queen of pop. Died to young.

Nazia Hassan's ex-husband is allegedly making a film on the pop star

According to Zoheb Hassan, Nazia Hassan's ex-husband Mirza Ishtiaq Baig is planning to make a film on the Pakistani pop star. However, the Hassan family is opposed to the idea.

He wrote that the family will sue anyone who is part of the project.

In a Facebook post, Hassan said, "The Hassan family has come to know that Nazia's ex-husband is trying to make a film on her life so he can feature himself and further profit from her name and fame."

Nazia Hassan's former husband lshtiaq Baiq denies making a film on her life

A day ago on Monday, Zoheb Hassan accused Ishtiaq Baig of making a film on the life of late-wife Nazia Hassan.

Hassan took to social media to announce that the family will sue anyone who is part of the project, claiming this was Baig's plan to profit off his sister's name.

However, Ishtiaq Baig claims to have no such project pending. In a letter to Images, Baig denies the accusations, saying: "I am too busy at the moment in my business & other engagements."

He adds: "However if ever plan making one, I would announce it myself proudly and being her husband nobody can stop me from doing so."

Baig also had a word to say about the end of his marriage with Nazia Hassan.

Says Baig: "Nazia Hassan was my wife until her sad demise in London. Her death certificate confirms our marital status."

Nazia Hassan had married Baig in 1995 and had a son, Arez Hassan.

I hate it when such exceptionally talented people die this young.

Haina. Same sentiment. There's no literally no comparison to this sentiment - what it could have been - but would never be kinda tragedy.

I'm still not over the death of Nusrat Fateh Ali and so many others too.

Nusrat Ji is very, very highly regarded in India. He didn't even live till 50. I can take it when an artist dies after a certain age, we all have to accept the facts of life. I'll never get over the death of John Lennon and Freddie Mercury. Both were so young. The Beatles has always been my favorite band ever since I was a kid. I harbored such a deep hatred for Mark David Chapman, the killer of John Lennon for such a long time. But I've mellowed down since the last few years.

My favorite song of nazia hassan has to be kriye pyar diyan gallan. It is so melodic & ptv used to air it a lot in early 2000's after her death.

I probably listened to her disco deewane cassette a 1000 times in the 80s. One of the most nostalgic album in my life.

I was reading a book by Omar shahid hamid and he had mentioned that how Altaf Hussain Kidnapped her many times and did terrible stuff to her.

Music enthusiasts on Saturday remember ‘Queen of pop,’ Nazia Hassan on her 56th birth anniversary to pay tributes to her unforgettable services in Pakistan’s entertainment music industry.

She was born on April 3, 1965, Nazia started her career at the age of 10 as a child artist. She rose to fame through the popular Pakistan Television (PTV) program Sung Sung.
Nazia Hassan made her singing debut with a melodious song from Bollywood movie Qurbani (1980) called ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’.

Her debut album, Disco Deewane (1981) was praised in fourteen countries worldwide and became the best-selling Asian pop recorded at the time, PTV, private channels reported.
Nazia enjoyed widespread popularity across South and Southeast Asia. She, along with her brother Zoheb Hassan, went on to sell over 65 million records worldwide.

Her English language single Dreamer Deewane made her the first Pakistani singer to make it to the British musical charts.

She has won several national and international awards at a young age of 15 and became the first Pakistani artist to win the Film fare Award.

On 30 March 1995, Nazia Hassan married businessman Mirza Ishtiaq Baig in Karachi. This took place after her being diagnosed with cancer.

They have a son, Arez Hassan, born on 7 April 1997. The marriage ended in a divorce ten days before Nazia’s death.

The pop singer was also a philanthropist and was appointed by UNICEF as its cultural ambassador in 1991.Her last album, Camera Camera (1992), was part of a campaign against drugs.

Nazia passed away on August 13, 2000, in London at the young age of 35, following a prolonged battle with lung cancer.

Her music was so catchy & her voice was so ahead of it's time like it feels as if it is made for today's generation.
Beyond her music what i really liked more was her grace & original personality that one can expierince in her interviews available on YouTube.

My childhood crush. Took me a while to realize that she was from another era.

Then I heard she was Pakistani and so tried some other Pakistani singers/bands like Ali Haider (whom I didn't like much), Strings, Junoon and Vital Signs.

Then I got to know that her most famous music was composed by an Indian and I felt proud.

Then I got to know he was originally from my city and belonged to a community that's one side of my family. And I felt even prouder.

Then I grew up and forgot about her.

But now, I can remember again.

Zohaib Hassan, the brother of the late, beloved Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan, on Thursday said that in a statement recorded under oath in London, Nazia said that her then husband, Ishtiaq Baig, had "fed her something" harmful and treated her badly.

Talking to Geo News, Zohaib said that a handwritten statement, attested by the Pakistan High Commission in London, Nazia had clearly written that she wanted a divorce.

Speaking of his interview with Samaa TV, Zohaib clarified that he had not in anyway accused Nazia's ex-husband of anything. "I did not level any allegations. These are things Nazia wrote herself," he said.

Zohaib explained that in the UK, when someone is not well enough to appear in court, a solicitor is appointed, to whom a statement is provided under oath.

The solicitor met Nazia and recorded a 10-page long testimony, Zohaib said.

"The testimony clearly states that the man had her eat or drink something and treated her very badly.

"We had not seen the court document earlier. I found it now because I was going through papers after my father passed away 10 months ago," the singer added.

"Whenever the day comes, of either Nazia's birthday or death anniversary, this man displays Nazia's medical records on TV and provides false information that the divorce did not occur. Such things deeply hurt my mother and our family," he said.

Zohaib said that under Sharia law, the man should refrain from talking about Nazia even, given that the two are divorced.

Nazia Hassan passed away in London at the age of 35 from lung cancer.

Interview with Samaa TV
In an interview with Samaa TV earlier in the day, Zohaib shed light on how Nazia described her maltreatment by Baig.

He told Samaa TV that her testimony stated that she believes arsenic was being slipped into her food.

Zohaib told the news outlet that his sister first developed ovarian cancer, but got better after one ovary was removed and the cancer went into remission. "The doctors gave her an NOC, which I can show you," he added.

"Then she went to Morocco and subsequently Thailand with him. Upon her return, she was coughing blood. It was discovered then that she had developed lung cancer," he said, quoting the testimony.

Zohaib said that Nazia was detained in the UK by Baig and then even after she passed away, her body was withheld by Scotland Yard, who were probing the case.

"The biggest mistake we made was to give Nazia away to him," Zohaib said.

So divine, just pure grace and the perfect woman. I am yet to see a woman more charming. You will be missed forever and ever.

Ishtiaq Baig on Friday has sent a "claim for damages" notice to Zoheb Hassan, the brother of Pakistan’s beloved late pop singer Nazia Hassan, for levelling allegations at him on Nazia’s 21st death anniversary.

The notice sent to Zoheb through a lawyer stated that he caused harm to Baig’s reputation by accusing him and using foul language against him.

Baig has demanded from Zoheb, an apology and payment of Rs1 billion as compensation within a week, for the “damages” he caused him.

If not, Zoheb will be dragged to a court, said the notice.

Zoheb's allegations

Zoheb has recently raised some serious allegations against Nazia’s then-husband, Baig, on her 21st death anniversary.

On Thursday, Zoheb, in a statement recorded under oath in London, said Nazia had accused her then-husband, Ishtiaq Baig, of " feeding her something" harmful and treated her badly.

Talking to Geo News, Zoheb said that in a handwritten statement, attested by the Pakistan High Commission in London, Nazia had clearly written that she wanted a divorce.

Speaking of his interview with a private news channel, Zoheb clarified that he had not in any way accused Nazia's ex-husband of anything.

"I did not level any allegations. These are things Nazia wrote herself," he said.

The brother Zoheb's music career tanked after his sister stopped singing and later passed away.

Zoheb should allow his sister to rest in peace now. Attacking his brother in law who he holds responsible for her death is not doing anyone any favours.

Today is her 59th birth anniversary. She was the one of the most popular female pop singers in Pakistan's history and Pakistani music fans will always remember her and her music.

Jeff Buckley too.

Always a sad reminder when her name comes up. She personified Pakistani female grace and elegance. The perfect woman.

The lady who changed the whole pop culture, especially for females.
