The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have shortlisted players from Australia, England, South Africa, and other countries for the 10th edition’s draft. Notable players include Steve Smith, Tim Southee, and Joe Root.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 draft has targeted a number of international players.

From Australia, they’re considering Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, and Daniel Sams. England’s Joe Root, Adil Rashid, Ben Duckett, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, and Sam Billings are also on the list. New Zealand’s Tim Southee, Finn Allen, Colin Munro, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, and Ish Sodhi have been shortlisted. From South Africa, Rassie Van Der Dussen, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Reeza Hendricks are being considered. Lastly, Jason Holder from the West Indies is also a target for the draft.

The PSL 2025 event will be held from April 7 to May 20, due to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB is considering changes to enhance the excitement of PSL matches, such as teams submitting two separate team sheets at the toss and applying Power Surge, similar to Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL).

Lahore and Rawalpindi are set to host more matches than Karachi in the PSL 2025. Karachi has been allocated fewer matches due to low turnout in the last season. The playoffs are likely to be held in England. During the last competition, Karachi hosted 11 matches, Lahore and Rawalpindi each hosted nine, and Multan hosted five.​

Isn't the PCB shortlisting these players since many seasons? Ironically PSL got big names like Gayle, McCullum and de Villiers in the earlier seasons only.

Smith and Root aren't those household T20 players though. Not anymore.

Yeah, the champions trophy has become pretty important now for Pakistan. That could be a make or break point for PCB.

They can easily threaten everyone to boycott the PSL and if not then risk being barred in India. Alternatively they can invite all psl aspirants into coaching, ambassador roles in the IPL or pay them a fee in exchange for not playing in the PSL.

They can increase the player pool Now they have restriction on how many overseas, how much money they spend. They can increase the cap.

This is where everything is lost.

I think a lot of western players pretend to sit around and listen to Qawalli like they do in the PSL.

That sort of thing is ok here and there but there isn't really a culture of these types of parties in the west, or of being impressed by lavish dinners over and over again.

They do like things like golf, and we have plenty of golf courses, and perhaps outdoors visit to mountain ranges could be arranged too.

Qalandars will veto this. They secured the signature of one of the best T20 players/bowlers in the world in Rashid Khan. They have seen the consequence of not having him available to them this season. How are they just going to let this go? No chance Rashid Khan will be playing PSL during an ongoing IPL season

A lot of them who didn’t play are happy to skip it too just to focus on 2 months off from any serious cricket. A lot of players will never pick PSL because playing in Pakistan is maybe a dreadful experience because of how boring the country is from a westernised pov.

They could still be picked up by the IPL for next year, hence a PSL franchise can never truly retain an overseas player.
