Senior Pakistan players Shoaib Malik, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Hafeez are set to lose their central PCB contracts for the next fiscal year.

A meeting was held at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headquarters on Thursday to discuss the new central contracts structure but ended without a final decision.

“One thing is clear that the board will not be offering 30 to 33 players the new contracts and the list of contracted players is going to be cut down to around 18 to 20,” one reliable source in the board said.

Although the players could get enhancements in their monthly salaries and match fees, the board has decided now to only award contracts to players who have done well in the last one year and have a future with the Pakistan team.

“It seems unlikely that Shoaib Malik, Hafeez, Junaid, and some others will get these central contracts now.”

Malik announced his retirement from ODIs after the World Cup and will only be playing T20 cricket from now onwards while left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has also announced his retirement from Tests and will only play limited-overs cricket.

“The board also doesn’t feel that Hafeez has a long time ahead of him since he has also said goodbye to Test cricket while Junaid Khan’s fitness has been a matter of concern for some time now,” the source said.

Thats great news if true.
This would indicate that we are finally moving on and wont encourage the oldies to hang around and milk off the PCT under the guise of experience.

Hope Miandad, Latif, S Nawaz, Qadir, Tanvir... don't criticize this decision.

Feel junaid Khan has been hard done by, I understand he hasn't been playing that much the previous year.

However with Amir retiring from test cricket it's JK's time to excel especially with the Australia series coming up.

Don't think he has ever played a test match outside Asia.

Oh my god . This is disastrous. We are Gna miss there experience big time ! Especially as both Malik and Hafeez are proven performers in big tournaments (NOT)!!! Lol

would be harsh to not give contracts to the senior most players based on a few bad performances in just 1 tournament

Good decision. All of them are finished. Malik and Hafeez should retire now with dignity or continue with rapidly diminishing returns. Junaid Khan just doesn't have the fitness or ability to contribute at the highest level.

People easily get excited here.

Shoaib Malik is the most powerful figure in Pakistan's cricketing fraternity. He has power and magic you cannot even imagine.

There's a reason why he keeps getting selected even after 20 years of mediocrity and losing us matches.

Think again. He's not going anywhere, at least until he also loses us the World T20.

:malik

One simply cannot keep him out, only Malik himself can deselect himself.

Amen

No central contract doesn't mean they won't get selected.

One poor series could easy get Hafeez back. Unless he feels disrespected and retires himself.

Thanks to Misbah and Younis for setting bad example to retire after 40+.

Thanks to Misbah and Younis for setting bad example to retire after 40+.

They were both performing when they retired. Misbah was man of the series in England and averaged 60 in his last series against the West Indies . Younis khan hit a match winning double ton against England. If your good enough then you should play .

On on the contrary Hafeez and Malik , should not have played the last World Cup and have had mediocre careers that have managed to last 15 plus years .

Well done, PCB.

Hafeez and Shoaib are finished. They should hang up the boots now.

Yes because your favourite Hafeez has no connections.

Playing favourites as always I see.

Our stars are besharam, they have to be forced out and then the tantrums start in thw media stage.

The issue is our desi mentality. Our people feel senior players are key to success.

The PCB will get criticized by the media for keeping someone as experienced as Hafeez out of the team.

Agreed. Extremely poor decision from PCB. You need Hafeez and Shoaib to carry on till T20 world cup next year and possibly till 2023 WC in sub continent conditions. Malik and Hafeez with their all round ability, talent and experience will be the best options for 2023 world cup in India.

PCB needs to rethink their decision.

I hope you're not serious.

This PCB humiliation for Malik and Hafeez will not be tolerated and is unacceptable. I call for a hunger strike outside the PCB offices until this decision is reversed. Who is with me?

Malik is retired so make sense with Shoaib Malik. Good news that Mohammad Hafeez is not given PCB central contracts so i hope he is not considered for the future selection and forced to retire.

Okay but I think Hafeez will cry his eyes out and may get a central contract with the help of some media pressure.

Thanks to Misbah and Younis for setting bad example to retire after 40+.

You say that but in a country like Pakistan where there is no financial security of cricketers once they stop playing, how can you blame them for wanting to continue as long as they are scoring runs?

Recently Kamran gave the reference of Misbah and Younis and said he can still play for Pakistan team for few years. So as Hafeez....

Our players earn a lot compare to average people in subcontinent. By age 30 they already have couple of house where general people build their own house after the retirement and not necessary they enjoy the house even paid of.
