So I run 5-10 km daily as an exercise regimen.

It's fun and it's fantastic and there is nothing better than the feeling of hitting the track.

However, I am in a bit of dilemma and I hope some Muslim brothers will help me out here.

I used to listen to music with my plug in earphones while running while on the track.

However, as I have become closer to religion, I don't want to listen to songs as they are not allowed.

However, I am out of options as to what to do while running...

I thought of listening to Quran, but my mind would not be on it, and it wouldn't be justice to it.

Is all types of music not allowed in Islam?

Could listening to just simple rhythmic beats be allowed while doing the track?

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

I don't want to give up my exercise regimen but I don't want to do anything that is prohibited in religion to keep up my exercise regimen.

Catch-22.

What do you guys suggest?

its a tough cookie, during running you need music if u have become accustomed to it... however, to try to phase out the music you are going to have to redesign your habbits for running. It is extremely tough to listen to other stuff anf be focused on running; so the only solution is to run without the music. For this i will recommend start small runs and make and grow an appetite for running without music. If you try to do the 5-10 km without music from the get go, u will either revert to music or give up running. So start out smaller targets and let the will power take over... good luck...

It's a problem I've been facing with studying also :P

You can listen to Nasheeds (in Arabic, etc if English distracts you), Qur'an Tafsir, Podcasts as was suggested - in the end, this could be a great opportunity for you to add daily Barakat into your runs plus help keep you running consistently Insha'Allah :)

Need to get back into Running myself so keep me in your prayers!

I suggest you download an audio of different motivational talks and listen to them while running. You dont even need to concentrate on listening to them. Just make sure the voice is powerful.

Other alternatives can be comedy audios but it would be hard to concentrate on jokes while running.

Music is not haram, but if you take that route, then so is taking pictures. However, I see that you have your own picture as your avatar, and I am sure you probably have your own pictures on your Facebook profile as well.

Your life your choice, but if you are reaching a level of religiosity where you are declaring something harmless like music haram, then you will make life extremely difficult for yourself, which you have already. Can't even jog without caveats, which is just sad.

That's a lot of running. Be careful with your joints. Put them in cold water for one minute before running. That's what I do.

As for music. You don't really need any.

I personally listen to it sometimes. I don't believe music is haram, as kind as it's not dirty.

Ok now music is also not allowed???? :danish

If you don't want to listen to music then by all means go ahead, but don't declare it haram just because some maulvi shahab told you so.
