Pakistan’s rising star Saim Ayub has broken into the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings, sitting at joint 9th position with Australia’s Marcus Stoinis on 179 rating points, which also marks his career-best.

The 23-year-old left-hander achieved the milestone following his impactful performances against Afghanistan in Sharjah, where his batting flair and useful contributions with the ball showcased his growing all-round ability.

With this surge, Saim now stands as Pakistan’s highest-ranked T20I all-rounder, cementing his place among global stars such as Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Nabi, and Sikandar Raza.

This shouldn’t even be considered as an achievement, some years ago Kohli was in top 10 t20 allrounders.

Saim should break into top 10 t20 batsman.
 
Saim Ayub as an all-rounder… Why turn him into another bits and pieces player?

Saim should stop bowling now.
 
Don't push him in wrong direction. Pakistan need a dashing opener like Ayub not a Irfan Pathan like pseudo all rounder
 
He is definitely a good offie but should always focus on his batting. Not every cricketer has the mindset of an all rounder

He needs to bat well which he is not doing atm.
Bowling is just a bonus and better teams will beat the living daylights out of him.

He should be spending all his time on batting practice and coaching so he can become the finished article.

We need to find the next batter that can get 10k,20k, 30k runs in their careers.

He has not been doing that and is now regressing to a bits and pieces cricketer. If his bowling loses form then he will be out of the team.

He is batter and should look to improve his batting and start scoring runs

What concrete evidence do you have to suggest that him working on his bowling has affected his batting?

Typical Pakistani uncle's mentality. He's not batting well. It must be because he is bowling more and not concentrating on batting. Saim bowling gives our team a much better balance. His batting is too good not to come through.
 
Some cricketers are very naturally gifted and can excel in multiple areas. I know this is a concept alien to Pakistani cricket fans since most of them haven't seen a single Pakistani cricketer in their lifetimes who has, but there are plenty of examples in world cricket.

I'm not saying that Saim is that, but I will say that it's rare to see someone develop a bit of guile with the ball despite having very minimal bowling experience. Saim definitely has some untapped potential with the ball that should be exploited as it could be a big bonus for Pakistan in all-formats, especially in white-ball. Nobody is saying that he should bowl a 10-over spell. But if he can even give you 5-6 decent overs it will add alot to the bowling.

As a batsman I believe he has all the tools to be one of the best in the world. And I don't think he needs the Einsteins of this forum to tell him that he should "focus on his batting"...which is alot like saying 'when it rains, you get wet.' As if Saim doesn't know that as Pakistan's all-format opener he should focus most on his batting lol.

I swear, some of you don't even think before writing the gibberish that you write here.
 
He’s actually a complete all rounder. His bowling is as good as his batting. I still don’t know how he can bowl off spin and also take the ball away from the right hander. Looks like a leg cutter but he bowls a consistently immaculate line and length. Even in South Africa.
 
Huge congrats on entering top 10 all-rounders list but you have lost your batting focus/form/confidence.

Right now Saim is as pedestrian as it gets as a batter.
 
He should stop bowling and focus on batting only. He seems to be following Shadab Khan's career. He is too good a player to miss out.

Him trying to become an all-rounder before establishing himself as a trusted batsman was the wrong approach.

There were gaps in his batting game, he could have taken time to fill those before taking on more responsibility as a bowler.

People take on more when they are ready, Saim wasn’t ready to be bowling 4 overs every match before establishing himself in his main role.

He's ready. Few failures don't change that. I've seen him bat against quality bowling attacks and he has shown he can impose his will on them. He definitely needs to find more consistency but I don't believe this idea that he's not ready
 
Out of form and lacking any confidence. Needs a rest. He is too talented too waste and if he crashes we are set back again after the demise of Babar.

Saim’s bowling reminds me of Sachin. Pretty similar action and similar bag of tricks.
 
As per stats, he is the worst first over batter in T20s among all test playing nations in the last year. And Pakistan has 4 other openers in the same eleven.

This bowling drama will end soon. It’s just the novelty factor. He is barely a part-time bowler.

India will hammer him if he bowls to them again.
 
Pakistan has no option but to back Saim as a batter. The only other spare batter in the squad is Hussain Talat. Shows what a kachra squad was picked by a kachra mindset.
 
This what happens when you pick players by viewing tik tik videos and total hype.

This guy is no better than salman butt , imran farhat and imran nazir I would go as far as to say those past players were better
 
Saim Ayub registered an unwanted record with a first-ball duck against India in the high-octane ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 clash here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The dismissal marked his seventh duck in T20Is, which drew him level with Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal, who jointly hold the third position on the list.

Shahid Afridi – 8 ducks in 98 matches
Saim Ayub – 7 ducks in 43 matches
Kamran Akmal – 7 ducks in 58 matches

Babar Azam – 7 ducks in 128 matches
 
He is a decent bowler but his current success is just due to novelty factor. I don’t think any coach or batsman study and prepare for him. Once they do a bit he will struggle. His primary role should be batting where he currently looks pretty ordinary. He still young and can do better

He is sort of a bowler who can go for 25 runs in one over. He is serviceable on tracks like this where ball grips.

Yeah he is a decent bowler. I feel he is similar to Sehwag although few seem to think he is like Sachin. Sachin was a genuine spinner who actually spun ball viciously. If he wasn't such a great batsman he had enough talent to make the Indian team as a spinner. He could bowl every known spin variety and a lot of swing and seam too. Saim is nowhere near him but more similar to Sehwag. Sehwag as also a very competent off spinner and would have achieved more if he had taken his bowling seriously. He always looked down on off spinners including his own and bowled only for fun and on team's need

Irfan Pathan would be the best player if he played for the current Pakistani team.

How was he a pseudo allrounder?
 
He should focus on His batting , that is his main suit . He should remain a part timer , no need to make him take responsibility of full time bowler.
 
Always odd when players start performing better in their secondary role and Pakistan’s facing this issue with Saim and Shaheen.

He’s bowling well these days. Bowling some really good deliveries, at times unplayable ones. I also like his overall attitude, doesn’t seem to be a very animated guy. Better start contributing again with the bat as Pakistan needs that more from him.

Still a good long term prospect.
 
Saim is proving to be a failure. Amd this bowling drama should end soon enough. He's getting helpful pitches which is why he's doing alright.

He's no Axar Patel who can perform on Dead wickets, saim will get tonked 24/7 on said pitches

Yep. This is true. He needs to give himself some time instead of attacking from ball 1.

It's how Guyana got the best out of him in CPL.

Hes not an out and out powerhitter.

Maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea to not have him face the first ball? Nothing against Farhan but I feel Saim is a much more multifaceted batsman and more important to the team cause if he gets going
