Sanath Jayasuriya Commentary Thread [Oh no, he's back!]

he's not funny, it's just all over the place. now he just said that it was too close to cut when the ball was two feet outside off stump

You can make a point about Gavaskar being biased..but he is a very good commentator. And often gives great insights too

Kumble and Ramiz are not bad either...

Jayasurya is a whole different level..
 
Sanath Jayasuriya: "The Sri Lanka is in the trouble...... deep one....... The (Kumar) Sangakkara has to long bat" (actually trying to say "has to bat long" :)) ).

You are right about Gavaskar but I just find these three so bloody annoying especially Ramiz as don't have to put up with the other two unless Pakistan is playing India but Ramiz is on everytime I watch a Pakistan game.

Kids dont remember 92 WC. He was the only one who kept backing us when we were on the brink of going out.

In the semi when Malik got out 90% of Pakistan thought that was it but SG kept saying Pakistan will go through.
 
the best bit is when he's in the middle of his story, he'd stop and say the score at the end of the over. After the break, a new story has already started and ends in the same abrupt fashion.
 
It takes him quite a bit of time to string together a sentence

What's your point, just because a commentator backs Pakistan that means he is good?
 
He doesn't seem too biased but is inability to finish one story before mentioning the score/starting his next story makes him next to impossible to listen to. One of the worst commentators around, unfortunately

Nahin yaar. Just sharing the 92 experience. SG is quite annoying with his open bias now a days. But 92 memories have created a soft corner for him.
 
have some self respect if your English is more of a pinglish then please stay at home .. and even if your english is not good though try to be a bit innovative like Waka!

Azhar Mahmood is another commentator who, I feel, struggles with the job.

He seems like a great guy and is no doubt a talented cricketer, but when we commentates he comes off as nervous and has trouble stringing words into sentences.

Seems to be a good commentator. Good English is not the main prerequisite to become a commentator. You need to have a good understanding of the game, and this Jayasuriya does have.

I disagree.

The commentator's understanding needs to be properly articulated otherwise the listeners/viewers won't comprehend the point being made.

Half the job is knowledge the other half is the actually speaking bit when it comes to commentary.

It's a tough job, but Sanath isn't cut out for it, IMO.
 
Why so much hate for Ramiz.

He is the best commentator that Pak produced.

I agree that part of the job is knowledge and the other part is the speaking. So if you give marks out of 100;

A commentator with a knowledge of 48/50, and speaking ability of 22/50 will get overall marks of 70/100, which is pretty good. Furthermore, if the listener places more emphasis on the insight aspect of the commentary, he will give a higher weighting to the knowledge. ie give a weightage of 70 to the insight and 30 to the speaking.

So for me, people like Sanath, Waqar etc are very good commentators.
 
lol Rameez is our best commentator so far he knows what he talks about its true sometimes he goes overboard but thats because hes a smooth operator
 
Don't rate Sanath at all as a commentator.

The technical knowledge must be in there somewhere, but he rarely expresses it.

I want commentators to be informative, to tell me stuff that is interesting, not waffle on about obvious things.
 
A real poor commentator. Don't like the way he commentates at all and isn't interesting at all.

The worst commentator I've heard.

I myself like the 'LOUD' commentators who make the game interesting e.g. Tony Greig.

Danny Morrison is a great commentator.. In fact all of the commentators for this series are good apart from Sanath.

Sanath is absolutely awful! The guy takes ages to complete a sentence and that too is often grammatically incorrect.. Plus, he hasn't got any kind of expression and comes across as outright boring..

It was actually a pain to watch the test match while he commentated
 
Some people are just not made to do commentary. Sanath is one of them, and Waqar is other. The earlier they realize this the better for them.

:))). I have noticed that happen several times. Good thing many PPers feel the same way about his commentary. It just seems like he finds it hard to commentate. Maybe hes too distracted watching the game and cant watch and talk at the same time. I dont know :))

We should have a :sanath smiley.

Sanath is using WICKUT regualrly and so is russel arnold!! :)
 
he is good ... he may be slow... so what.. he is new... it will take time... how was these so called great commentators when they came first?....

his english is fine.... with time he wil get better ..

btw, it's dissapointing Ten didn't recall Mohammad Akram (who was here last time against SA). I was looking forward to a possible combo between him and Waqar.

He makes Ramiz a very bearable commentator.

He was giving a lecture on ice baths towards the end of day 2.

It was so boring... but so were Taufeeq and Azhar Ali.

100% right. actually he was the only person who was backing pakistan from start to end when even fans lost hope in the middle of tournament before that remarkable turn around by pakistan.

people who said Sanaths grammar is bad are retarded.. after all for 19 years i had no idea you had to say 'the' in front of any name or verb you say. The Junaid is the bowling into ground.. see ? and never have i ever seen such a skill for absolutely zoning out mid conversation into a zombie like dictation of the scoreline.. producers dream

should be head of commentators.

Sanga is playing long innings and very good attacking shots.
The batsmen need to take the calculated rissskkk.
that is the main thing because junaid khan is bowling very good, line and length and sri lanka have struggles with backfoot.
Also u know rameez the pitch is not doing much for the bowlers but their is little moisture and umar gul bowled really well against paranavitana and if you look then ,,, 161/1

It very hot here, and very good conditions, but batsmen need to take the calculated risskkk you know
 
He will be back for the third test, unfortunately.

He missed the second test due to his Hong Kong Sixes commitments.

One of the worst commentators EVER! :(
