What's new

Sarfaraz Ahmed takes umbrage to Mohammad Hafeez's remarks on Social Media - Mohammad Amir joins in!

Hafeez has actually gone out of his way to criticize Sarfaraz on a couple of occasions over the last year or so, saying that he would hide down the order, calling him a toss karne wala kaptaan, etc. So there’s a bit of history there too.

Wait, did he really say that?

Is there any clip/text of this? For a bang on mediocre cricketer, Hafeez sure does have a lot of confidence.

Both were equally poor. 2019 looked better because the format was more forgiving.

Sarfraz’s team playing in the 2015 World Cup would not have achieved anything different.

This is the most ridiculous comment i have seen lately. Pakistan’s 2019 WC was filled with badluck if anything else because the team beat both finalists and had proper quality in the ranks and a strategy. The 2015 WC was the worst world cup campaign after the 2007 WC campaign.

Sarfraz should have removed hafeez (and malik) after 2017 CT. Mickey wanted these two out as well but Sarfraz was into 'seniors ki respect' thing and hence didn't showed any spine. He even demoted himself to lower order just to accommodate 'seniors'.

Now he has only himself to blame.

It was Inzi who brought them back. Mickey rightly discarded this 40 year old in the beginning.

Maybe Safraz has no issues, but Hafeez clearly does.

Also, lol at Sarfraz calling out Hafeez as an "elder" this time rather than the standard "senior".

Crafty one there from Sarf. :genius

Behaving like a bunch of kids They both should know better especially hafeez

He needs to start acting his age n stop maligning and continuously bringing pakistan cricket into disrepute

Once again showing that Pakistani cricketers are embarrassingly inept at PR.

Well spotted. Unlike most of his posts this wasn’t well thought out by him. The lack of response after countering his claims sums that up really.

If someone told me before the WC that we would beat 3 teams ranked higher than us (England, NZ and South Africa), I would bite their hand off. Any rational Pakistani fan would as well.

Before anyone tries to tell me that Misbah would have accomplished the same results in the 2019 WC or could have won the CT, they ought to be reminded that we lost 3 games out of 3 in what was a poor show during the 2013 CT.

The contest we've all been waiting for... Hafeez bowling to Sarfaraz. And Sarfaraz well on top!

I think they are all wrong to shoot their mouths off like that. Sarfaraz has been a great servant for Pakistan cricket but getting baited into a war of words with someone like Hafeez is below his stature. Hafeez jo na sirf batting bowling or fielding mein gifted hein balkey apparently gifted in stupid comments like that as well! Lol

Sarf should start sledging Hafeez like no tomorrow.

Sarfaraz really losing his cool watching Hafeez smash his bowlers around the park

Think this might be Sarfaraz 1-2 Hafeez

Hafeez has buried Sarfaraz's team today and made sarfaraz go psychotic on his bowlers.

Sarfraz is losing his mind and I genuinely feel bad. Anyone who can read social cues could see from Twitter he is in his head and Hafeez triggered him for sure. If Sarfraz was performing he wouldn’t give a damn or read too much into that tweet.

Just yelling, screaming the whole match. Even commentators felt bad. I think it’s time to give up captaincy and focus on your game mate. All this yelling and throwing toys out of the pram is only going to sink you into a deeper hole mentally :/

He can still be a decent domestic pick but needs to fix his mental state.

Hafeez has shown who is the boss on a cricket field. He really has some class.

This smashing knock could potentially kick QG out of the tournament. It was a very convincing win and QG can't afford such high margin loss. They are already behind with NRR.

This issue nothing to do with today's match.
Hafeez started it all..he is the culprit.

True. Hafeez is living rent free in Sarfaraz's head.

Hafeez has man handled Sarfraz on every level, mentally breaking him and then dominating with brute force

Should never declare the score when it's only half-time.

:)) Perhaps there is more to come, this looks like a good ol 12 rounder :yk that is if you feel Sarfraz is still in this fight :akhtar

Sarfraz has been knocked out cold by a big right hand Hes not getting up from this

Hafeez and Sarfaraz are both on their way out for one reason or another. So is Aamir.
This bickering won’t help change that fact. Hafeez will probably play another year or so but he was/is/will always be a mediocre player. Sarfaraz showed guts but then his gut started showing and he failed to keep up or else he would still be captain and stayed at the top for 5/6 years after the champions trophy win.

Hafeez right now is anything but mediocre. Bring him up against anyone in LOI, anywhere in the world and he will score runs.

He always had the talent, but lacked self belief.
He has figured out his game very late in his career and has mastered the mental side of things.

His ceiling will always be T20’s, but I’d reserve my judgement on him until the T20 World Cup which he is likely to play for better or worse

Hafeez 1, Sarfaraz 0 :P

Hafeez showed that hes the absolute chad, the alpha and dominated beta Sarfraz and showed him his place. :afridi

Jokes apart, it was sad to see Sarf disintegrate who i used to champion back in 2015 till his eventual downfall in 2019 when he completely became a shadow of his old self.

im sorry but a purple patch doesnt change the class of a player. he might be punching above his weight right now but he is not head and shoulders above sarfaraz, and he is definitely not some great legendary national player.
regardless, I think Sarfaraz over reacted to his unnecessary comments. They should have both stayed in their lanes.

Hafeez is a douchebag but he can be as long as he scores runs.

Meanwhile Sarfraz...

One name crossed off from professor's revenge list now he will be onto the next one. :leo

Though Sarfaraz will get another shot as well to settle the score.

Sarafaraz hasn't learnt from his stint as captain of Pakistan team. He was told he needs to check his behavior on field back then but today he proved that he didn't learn anything from that.

I wish after ct17 we had an inspirational leader who could have taken the team to new heights but we were stuck with this guy.

He couldn't handle the pressure of captaincy and let it impact his own performances as well. If he couldn't take it he should have had the character to quit as a captain so he could focus on his game but the greed of captaincy got to him.

I can't believe this guy was leading Pakistan and Hafeez has rightly put him in his place.

Saj, I think this was after both had already shook hands. Both went towards each other right after Hafeez hit the winning runs.

I didn't see that or must have missed it.

Any pictures?

This was right after Hafeez and Fakhar shook hands. I think there was a fist bump there, certainly no pleasantries exchanged, but can't be 100% certain because the camera only switched to this angle at the very last moment when Sarfraz had just passed Hafeez. Pic121.JPG

That doesn't look like Hafeez and Sarfaraz shaking hands. They aren't even looking at each other.

Also when walking towards pavilion, Sarfraz gave way and requested Hafeez to go first which was a good gesture on his part...

That's traditional in cricket.

The fielding side always allow the batsmen off the field first.

Fair, lol! I should've tried pausing a frame before this, but not sure how helpful that would've been.

Sad how 2 experienced Pakistani international cricketers and former captains are at each other's necks.

blame Hafeez

sarfraz didn't start it, Hafeez started it all
and he seems to be backing it with his cricket :))

Need to cross Dale Steyn's name from the list now! :D

All jokes aside it is good to see Hafeez in this crazy form. My question now is, where was this aggression in numerous World Cups and tournaments. Unfortunately it is coming a little late in his career, however, I hope he is able to redeem himself in the T20 WC. I can surely say he did redeem himself in ODI's during that Champions Trophy Final knock. Need something similar in India now.

So Sarfi didn't shake hands with Hafeez.

Im glad hafeez showed sarfeazs aukaat.
Just love the way sarfraz was panicking

Hopefully taptaan could stay out of the team
No need of him in the national team

Sarfraz is not just a nothing player or an insecure soul, he is a coward and a bully. He is gonna get slapped on national television some day if he continue going like this.

These are players not bonded labors!! How can he get away with all these without a fine? I honestly don't remember him doing that to the opposition ever!!

This is a good rivalry to bring the best out of them, I don't know why people are complaining here. It's competitive rivalry which Pakistani players are clearly missing against their opponents. It would be dangerous if they were both playing for the same team and behaved this way but at the moment if it's helping them push their performances then let it be.. bring on round 2.

If you look at the above picture, it removes any doubts on how Hafeez was in Sarfraz's head throughout the match. I actually missed the match but decided to watch the full replay late at night. And then read the commentary thread as well. Sarfraz was in full panic since ball 1 of LQ's innings. It almost felt like he was playing a WC final as Rana commented as well. One would think it was Pakistan vs India..

It does look like sarfaraz wanted to prove a point It was a grudge match and he was desperate to get one over hafeez hence the antics

great gesture from haffez to give some comfort and confidence to Saim Ayub.. the guy was treated like garbage from Sarfraz... i am no haffez fan but that was seriously nice of him

bro, sarfraz ahmad never said zilt to Hafeez.

He went crazy on his own players. He was bashing every player of his own team and Usman SHinwari was angry ang confused as sarfraz was acting like an idiot

Uff khuda, this is what i was talking about in my above post as well where i referenced “above picture” and this screams over compensation and fakery. Hes crying from inside. Sad to see this.

Nah, in a Pakistan vs India WC game all he did was yawn.

This is nothing.

It's just common courtesy that every cricketer knows - the batsmen leave the field before the fielding side.

This was nice of Hafeez

Sarfaraz and Hafeez did shake hands soon after the match ended. It wasn’t shown on the broadcast, but the media and people in the stadium saw it.

Regardless, that doesn’t excuse his behavior… He’s always been emotional on the field, but yesterday was probably far beyond anything that’s happened in the past.

Lmao who cares :)) this is so funny to see!

Thankfully both are not likely to be a part of national team(Sarfraz hopefully won't be picked again and Hafeez is only available for t20is) otherwise both of them should have been fined.

No he didn't redeem himself. He has only started doing well since last one year that too in t20is. He played 3 world cups and 5 wt20is, yet has never been able to lead Pak to victory in them. Had a great chance in 07 where he choked in the first over. Failed in wc07 for majority of time esp the semi, the wt20i 12 semi against SL and wt20 14 as a captain and batsman both. Nothing he can do now is going to redeem himself of his constant failures of the past.
We can just enjoy his purple patch now without any context to his past.

Ah good old Pakistani media, the symbol of fact and truth. Lol

Not according to everyone they didn't shake hands.

Talk about stating the obvious.......

I don't think Pakistan media would lie about them shaking hands, if anything, they'd lie and say they didn't shake hands cos that's how they sell stories and create masala.
