Mickey Arthur at a presser after KK beat LQ in PSL 3:

(Local players in PSL) "A lot of the local players have been leading the way so I'm excited. However, batting is something we need to keep working on and hopefully we'll find another gem somewhere who can get into the Pakistan side like Fakhar Zaman last year."

(Have you found the two players you were looking for) "Unfortunately no, not yet. Hussain Talat played well yesterday, though. In PSL 1, I think of Hasan Ali who really stepped up and came into our setup. PSL 2, I think of Shadab Khan and Fakhar Zaman. I haven't seen anybody just yet who has given me the joy I saw with those guys."

(Shahid Afridi's contribution) "I can only speak incredibly highly of the contribution Shahid Afridi is giving in the dressing room. He took that catch the other night and said 'you said you have to be able to field to get in the Pakistan team, well I can do it and I'm available'. He's been outstanding and he's been advising Imad, who has done a really good job. He's been outstanding, he's trained hard, he's done everything asked of him. His bowling has been fantastic, his fielding has been good and I know there's an innings somewhere in this competition where he will win a game for us. The experience with him has been extremely positive."

(Ravi Bopara's performance) "I was hard on Ravi last night in our debrief as I felt he let the game drift last night, he should have finished it in the 19th over. Today he came out with a bit of fire in his belly and went and played an innings we wanted. We wanted to get to 100 in 15 overs then get 50 off the last 5 and Ravi played exceptionally well to get us 10 runs more than that."

(Regarding players playing in leagues) "We're gonna look at every player individually. We've got a squad of 20 we're looking at for the World Cup and we'll cut that down to 15 and I've got a plan for each of those players. If time allows, then they can go to these leagues but if they're tired and need a break and we need to condition them, or work with them, then they'll stay. We'll judge every case on its merit. If I think it's a good cricketing experience, we'll send them. I'm only talking about the time period leading upto the World Cup because for us, that's the pinnacle."

(Criticism of Dubai pitches) "This is a very good cricketing wicket. It's a different wicket to what we normally have here in Dubai. What it does, is that it shows class. The good players play well on these wickets. Players that play well on flat wickets and against mediocre attacks are exposed on wickets that offer a little bit of pace and bounce. I'm very happy with the standard of the wicket."

(Amir's fitness) "I'm hoping that Mohammad Amir will be fit on the 1st. We're not going to risk him with the tournament and more cricket ahead. We had a bit of a scare with him yesterday but he woke up fine this morning. It was a wonderful opportunity to get Usman Shinwari into the competition."

(Usman Shinwari) "Shinwari was outstanding today. We've been building him up, he's worked incredibly hard in the past 4 months since the SL series to get himself to where he is now. We had him cleared by the medical committee and our support staff and the staff at the NCA have done a fantastic job with him. The way he bowled tonight and the performance he gave was very pleasing."

Awesome observation. These wickets are godsend for players to improve their cricket.

Good to see Talat getting a mention. Hopefully he has a good tournament and kicks on from here. Has something about him this lad.

Hopefully we get Talat in the LOI squads, he is the best no. 5 available for ODI's

Lala is the still the a beast of bowler and fielder. His batting is little rusty but that can be worked upon. He can play hafeez's role. Only he will be bowling legally.

Oh not all this again. He is close to 40 now, we need to look to the future instead of building a team around oldies.

What???Are we back in 1996? Jokes apart, some good comments from Arthur. Afridi is not coming back though.

He should have mentioned Ibtisam as well, not saying he should be selected for national team but he has been impressive with the bowl and in the field.

But there will be no conflict of interest because as Mickey said he is too professional for that.

I think Mickey is just being diplomatic and enjoying having international standard players around him rather than the dross of the last couple of months. We will see what he decides on April against the windies

Mickey was SA's coach when youngsta beauty single handedly knocked out his team from the 09 WT20.

They were undefeated and favorites for the completion until they met the beast :afridi

Hard to believe that was almost ten years ago.

Crispy part.. taking a dig at HTB, FTBs and those who score against minnows or mediocre attacks..

Throw Khurram out and open with Afridi... Trust me you will win the title MA.

Afridi is useless at 6 or 7.. but a million dollar wicket inside 6 overs.

In the past, Pak failed to use his batting the way it needed the most.

Afridi can't even slog anymore. Opening with him would be gifting a guaranteed wicket within the first over to the opponent.

Like many here I'm really happy to see Mickey mention Hussain. He's definitely a player who should be a part of the ODI & T20 team.

What a joker! he probably means it as well after taking one great catch

People hating on Lala are villains like that waist pant Kylo Ren.

Let the past die. Kill it if you have to!

^only ungrateful people talk like that.

Wont do worse than Khurram for sure..

he scored a 42 ball century opening the batting for Hampshire in t20 blast 2017... not sure how many times he opened for hampshire but that came on seaming grass pitch..

Did you even see that 100? It was filled with dropped catches, missed chances, ball falling in no mans land, edges, etcs

Just check Afridis last 2 events asia cup and world T20. Pathetic to say the least.

Also in the wc 2015 he was below average.

Seems like a tongue in cheek comment from Afridi.

I don't think he is serious about a comeback.

Would really like to see Afridi back. There's a massive void in the Team after he left. He has the X factor and is the only one in my eyes that can change the game.

Also great to see Shinwari back. Guy is such a good bowler Masha'Allah

Yeah a really massive 0(1) void.

With all due respect, Afridi the bowler is irreplaceable and to this day at this age would walk into every team as a bowler alone.

People getting angry about this should be angrier Misbah is still clinging onto a PSL contract and because of his return, subbed out Sahibzada and kept his friend Asif Ali in the team.

Shadab has already replaced him and is a much much better option both as a bowler and batsman.

Hope he does not become another Afridi.

That will go to a boundary or 3 runs can be scored if that is in the powerplay

Well if he makes a quick 40 which will be in 10-15 balls for sure inside powerplay would still be match winning margin of difference... he is wasted at 7 with fielders in the boundaries, his value is when the fielders are inside..

No thanks. T20s should be the breeding ground for the next generation of cricketers.

Im talking about INT cricket.
He was pathetic during

WC 2015
ASIA CUP 2016
WT20 2016

The moment he left we started to perform.

True and I agree.. But still he is a slogger who can be used as an opener... This is the stage for experiment, if he does well in PSL as an opener then he can be used for int'l subject to his fitness...

Some people have seriously short memories
What can he offer at 40 and at the end of his career that he hasnt before

Lets plan for the future and give the likes of nawaz shadab etc more chances than bring back a 40 yr old who was more miss thsn hit

Pakistan cricket head coach Mickey Arthur has stated that all rounder and current Karachi Kings skipper Imad Wasim can be seen leading the national team in the future, however, for the time being Arthur seems content with current skipper Sarfraz Ahmed leading in all formats.

“In future Imad Wasim probably can be Pakistan’s captain, but Saffy (Sarfraz) is entrenched in of all forms of the game and as long as I am coaching Pakistan I am going to have Sarfraz Ahmed with me,” said Arthur, at the post match conference.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi expressed his desire to see Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim leading the national side in the future.

“Imad Wasim is in my eye as somebody who can lead Pakistan in future,” said Sethi, while addressing a press conference at the Pakistan Super League trophy unveiling ceremony held on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the head coach informed about his plans after PSL, while talking about the upcoming tour of West Indies in April.

“Straight after that we will be going into T20s with the West Indies. I have got a very clear picture in my mind about the t20 side, world cup side and the test side. We are going to take medical test, fitness test straight after the West Indies series,” he said.
The West Indies will play T20I on 1st, 2nd and 4th of the month at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

The thread title made me think Afridi was preparing for a comeback to the national team.
