This is an interesting thread which i managed to create by observing many similarities between the two world t20 wins.
Lets look at that.
1. Before winning the tournaments, both teams were struggling to lift any trophy despite coming close so many times.
Srilanka failed to win 2007 and 2011 ODI world cups, 2009 and 2012 t20 world cups.
India failed to win 2023 world cup, 2017 champions trophy and many semifinal exits.
2. After winning tournaments in 2014, Sangakkara and Jayawardene, two batting stalwarts from Lanka retired from t20is to give chances to younger ones. Similarly, in 2024, Rohit Sharma and Kohli retired from after winning the trophy.
3. Sangakkara (Srilanka's best batsman) was player of the match in finals, Virat Kohli was player of the match for India.
After the winning the title, Srilanka cricket went downhill with consistently bad performance. They are yet to recover from the retirements of Jayawardene and Sangakkara.
I'm worried that can be happen to India as well.. India has already lost an ODI series to Lanka.
