Shikhar Dhawan: Performance Watch

Dhawan was always highly rated as a batsmen ever since his performances in the under 19 WC, it seems hes had to work very hard at domestic level and go through some stages of failure to comeback and finally make it into main Indian side and do well. That sort of thing takes alot of hard work, talent and he deserves the sucsess hes getting now.

He doesn't look anything special to me, just an eejit with a ridiculous moustache. Anderson will deal with this guy.

If he were in the English team, you would be describing him like he turned you on or something :yk

Big test for him tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how he handles English bowlers.

If I am not wrong, it will be his first time against English bowlers. Please correct me if I am wrong.

1st international match. but he did smash a 100 to help delhi chase down 290+ against england in a warm-up match earlier this year :D hoping he does it again, this time for india :dhawan

Re: Shikhar Dhawan

Gavaskar was saying that too.what does that even mean?

Whenever Dhawan gets beaten, he keeps on practicing the shot several times till he gets it right (in his mind). Gavaskar was referring to that.

England will test him with the short ball and then follow it up with full deliveries.

I think he's decent but they hype is overboard.

Re: Shikhar Dhawan

Broad and Bresnan have been failures this tournament. Time for them to support Jimmy who has been good. One man can't do it all. Finn seemed in Sami mode against South Africa.

Shikhar Dhawan

Just a flash in the pan :nehra

My man Gambhir's return is imminent :kapil

Hold your horses there. Dhawan is a superb batsman and these petty matches don't really matter. Some of his shots give me goosebumps! Supremely talented when it comes to timing the ball. The guy is here to stay. You'll see more of him in the coming years

He did have few starts here in the tri-series, scored a fifty and got a start in another innings. It's ok to flop in a series or two after his dream run in CT, but the real test for him will be the SA tour. This tour will give us a clear idea on how he does against high class bowling in bowler friendly conditions. I hope his second stint this time will be fruitful than the earlier one. He is definitely better than Vijay though, who will likely get a test opener role in SA.

I was happy that he failed in this series

-because this means that he is not mentioned as a "beast" which it seemed when he was in blistering form in the last few months

-this will only mean that he will work hard and try to score runs more frequently, even when he is not in the best of form.

This 'youngster' is overrated by these Indians. I don't really rate Jamshed highly but at least he's a young guy and has time. Dhawan run at CT was just a fluke and scored runs on good batting pitches.

Well we would do really well to develop a flat track bully of our own. Our batsmen can't score on any kind of wicket.

LOL.The guy had a dream series in CT.So couple of failures are only the law of avgs catching up with him.

Someone called CT pitches good batiing pitches.Thats another LOL worthy comment.Indian bowlers folded teams up for less than 250 on 4 out of 5 occasions.

Its not the batsman fault but the stupid management and Misbah. I remember Jamshed, Shehzad and these youngsters of Pakistan batting freely at a healthy strike rate.

Batsman made rubbish Indian bowlers look good by throwing their wickets away that's why. Try watching the games again hey?

yes. hopefully Misbah is removed from captaincy so we can get this aggression back.

Dhawan is similar to Sehwag in his batting approach. They will not be consistent because of the aggressive batting , but they are match winners.

India will persist with him - they don't drop their youngsters after one bad-ish series

What are you trying to say? Jamshed deserves more hype because he's younger than a guy who just scored 350+ runs in a major ODI tournament that he helped win?

Dhawan may be a wonderful timer but footwork is poor. Yes he plays like Sehweg a bit but really there can only be 1 Sehweg.

All players have bad series after abit of exposure at highest level, the good players learn from it and improve. The weak ones dont.

Dhawan will bounce back and score runs in other series and games.

That logic only works when a player is truly established as world class such as Amla,AB, KP, Dhoni etc. Dharwan has yet to prove this.

As I wrote previously, he decent but not the new Lara as some of the hype suggested. He still has time to improve.

In CT Junaid failed and people were defending him saying just few matches and this Dhawan guy performed averagely in this series (meaningless series and just 4 matches) but is being labelled as failure

He will do well in the upcoming tourneys

Can't see him doing much on difficult wickets, but I've been wrong before.

Seriously over hyped after the CT. I rate him highly but he's not as good as some were making out.

Re: Shikhar Dhawan

If he were a Pakistani youngsta beauty, he would have been dropped for Farhat by now.

Very sad minds few ppl in PP have! It is as if they want Dhawan to fail out of pure jealousy! He has not exactly failed in this series (135 at 27) , just didn't convert the starts he got. Nothing to be paranoid of.. South African tour will be the real test for him

Which means B Kumar is underrated since he took wickets on "good batting pitches"? :junaid

Re: Shikhar Dhawan

He batted 3 times today to get to his 100 very poor fielding by Zimbabwe but sayin dat still he got to 100 congrates to him v gd batsman

Thats only the sign of a serious batsman. Anyone else would have thought he was invincible today and had gotten out trying hit one out of the park.

He's in great form but I'm not sold on him, especially in tests. Really have to see how he goes in SA to get a proper gauge on him.

He will be exposed in SA, like most other SC players. If he can hit a couple of 50s on that tour, we can take it as a positive.

Most batsmen from the sub-continent have done badly in South Africa, Dhawan failing there won't come as a surprise. Let's see what he gets up to in all the other series, New Zealand away, England at home and so on.

Wow this thread was created in 05? I did not even know who this kid was until he scored a ton against Australia.

Was there hype during his early years which led to this thread?

Anyway i still rate Kohli and Pujara ahead of him, i have a feeling they wil do well in SA especially in Tests.

I don't know about SC batsmen generally but a number of Pak batsmen like Azhar Mahmood, Asad Shafiq and Taufeeq Umar have done exceedingly well in SA.

What is their avgs in SA and how many tests have they played???

Taufeeq Umar LOL.

Asad Shafiq avgs 33

and Azhar Mehmood played a total of 5 innings.

But then again you are cars112.So please continue.

Dhawan made his bones when Kohli was going out with cheerleaders. He was supposed to be the big thing 10 years ago.

Whats Toffee Kumar's record in SA ?

280 runs at 70.

An average of 70 in South Africa is LOL to you? Instead of resorting to personal attacks try and answer that question.

2 test matches 4 innings hardly the judge of a players calibre.

Else KArthik with an avg of 101 is the best SC player in SA.Chalo aage badho.

Hardly a kid he's 27..
27 is still young though especialy in cricket, and i might have been using my seniority there :-)

can you list their average in SA

Gambhir and Tendulkar and Laxman and Samaraweera too. But I was pointing to the trend.

Toffee is a good lad, i wouldn't give in to a lulloo's trolling and make fun of Toffee bhai. He's good and should be in Pak team ahead of Hafeez like phattus.

Having said that, Dhawan is janbaaz khiladi and a dif breed clearly.

All stats pre Philander and Steyn should be null and void imo

lol, why? The only time we were weak was when we heard Tsotsobe in our side, which was 4 matches i think. But one Tendulkar capitalised on that :-)

Nah. Steyn's alright, but can't rate Philander until he makes his way to Cape Town Intl. and boards a flight to either one of Australia/India/Lanka/UAE. Oh wait, he already has flown over to the former and more or less failed so take those Cape Town and South African figures with a pinch of salt in the meantime.

This is the part where you really gotta hate on the SLC for canning the test series which could've been happening as I type.

Stats in SA, ever since Philander joined Steyn they've been unstoppable at home...

Yeah that's the point.

Just checked the FTP, a UAE tour coming up later in the year for South Africa, let's see how Philander's dibbly-dobblys go on that.

you must have missed his "dibbly-dobblys" in England then, besides he only had one bad game in Australia.

He does love playing in Cape Town though :yk

Damp English conditions don't count, even Anderson looks good out there. Like I said, the 2 or 3 tests in the UAE will test his mettle. Pity he'll be bowling to Shafiq and Adnan Akmal and people like that and not Sangakkara or Sehwag but I guess it'll have to do.

Since when has UAE become a benchmark for success of a medium fast bowler? You can only judge a player by comparing him to his peers. Let's not use UAE as the sole criteria for gauging a bowlers success or failure.

Yeah, my point is using batsmens stats prior to the Steyn-Philander combo is hardly a good base to compare players performances in SA. The stats prior to Steyn-Philander will obviously look better.

It isn't, that country has no history or legacy at all but it's the only place outside of Cape Town and South Africa that Philander will be visiting in the foreseeable so we're going to have to see how he goes on that.

I mentioned above, the SLC morphing a possible test series in Lanka to the current JAMODIs hasn't helped, for it would've been good fun to see Philander on the SSC against Jayawardene, Dilshan and Sangakkara.

Still, it's Abu Dhabi over Johannesburg for mine, when it comes to Philander.

It's not the batsmen's fault that Steyn/Phil emerged of late. A batsman can only score against the bowlers he faces.

When every fast bowler struggles in UAE, I would not be surprised if Phil struggles there too. And by using the same logic, why don't we gauge a batsman's success by only taking his performances in England, or say SA as these two places are considered to be a tad difficult to bat in comparison to other places?
