Forget the runs, just for preserving the moustache legacy he deserves a

yaar..yeh to gangs of waisepur type picture mein suit karega

You cant hate on a player that makes a century in his debut. But then where is Fawad Alam?

Well played Shikar :14:

Hope he continues this form of his for few more games for India if not for few more seasons. His strokes were absolute treat to watch (albeit on a batsmen friendly track against a half decent bowling attack).

What about cyclone Starc?? Indians are getting too excited about this cow lasher. If you cant score on a pitch where tail ender just scored 99 then you should not look for another job.

It is not often that a debutant comes up with a run a ball hundred, actually a 85 ball hundred here, regardless of conditions or bowlers. It wasn't the sort of wicket where every batsman piled up a lot of runs. If it was Umar Akmal here, this knock would have been hailed as the second coming of Bradman. Give credit where it is due.

Didnt get the double. Hope it wasnt a one-time wonder

he can score at home, lets see wht he does away..
one thing in his favour is delhi track is very tough in ranji so he is not really ordinary batsman
had he played in mumbai he would average hear 60 like others...

He is very unlikely to be fit for Delhi test, so Rahane might come in his place for that test.

Oh Got it now! Sorry misunderstood your initial post :) #ThumbsUp

its nice to put things in prespective north indian batsman have disadvantage compared to west batsmen and even south, delhi and mohali track have been very good..specially this season.

^^ Yes, scoring hasn't been easy for batters in Delhi's roshanara stadium (Delhi) in the last few seasons

yeah..thts why chand struggled so much but ij end of season he really looked like a better batsman

Chand is another talent with immense potential (add the likes of Baba aparijith, Vijay zol to the list, we will have a good pool of young batters to select from)

yeah , dont forget jiwanjot... he has opened in mohali and done well...

I saw a Deodhar trophy semifinal.Vijay Zol is a special talent

Well done to the lad but let's not get ahead of ourselves - one swallow doesn't make a summer. I hope he can replicate his debut many times over but many cricketers have had incredible debuts to then fall off the radar - for example Marsh, Raina, Fawad Alam, Marcus North.

Jiwanjot too :) we need to find similarly a small but good pool of pacer and spinners.

Jalaj saxena comes to my mind when i think of an effective offie with pretty good batting ability.

saxena is ordinary compared to rasool
pacers is not a problem , this season we had more pacers then batsmne tbh
kaul is brilliant, pandey, shami, mohit sharma, there is 18 year kid wh8 hit 140k several times his name is rajpoot I think
imo pankaj singh right now is good enough for tests but he is ignored for some reason...

@Gabbar - True. Dhawan will have much sterner tests ahead for him henceforth and will have to play at least half good as he did in debut inning to cement his place permanently. ATM, I am like many Indian fans happy to see the back of two long standing non-performing senior openers of our team for these new set of batters. Hope he keeps improving his technique and temperament for tougher conditions :)

@amlafan79- Pankaj singh can be deadly provided we produce greentop wickets. His pace though not great but still faster than Bhuvi. TBH, I am hearing about Rasool only recently (since that India A call up against England). I have to follow him for a year to really understand his potential. But it seems so far he has done a good job at whatever opportunity that he has got to play at.

The likes of Rasool,Pankaj,Kaul are ready imo.should play ODI atleast.

over last 2 seasons pankaj increased the pace
now he can hit 140 k in spells and then add his height and accuracy he is much better bowler...

Yep. One of the games that I watched him play recently(i think in Kolkata) on a greenish wicket he was clocking at late 130's and occasional 140s.

my point is talent is not problem
next yeat kids like kaul will surpass him we just need to groom them well and let them beecome world class
we have enough pacers in domestic cricket to atleast replace iahant and din da in test side I have no doubts abt that
bhuvan is far from best at domestic level and even he looks much much better then ishant . :(

:(

Completely agreed (bolded parts)

I would love to see Dhawan and Sehwag open for India.

Viru is playing relatively well now. He seems to have fixed his glasses now.

He also seems to be a very down to earth kind of guy when he is not holding the bat.

I have become his fan now.

Re: Shikhar Dhawan

They should send him to South Africa for the A tour along with Pujara and co.

No. If everyone goes to South Africa...who will play in Champions trophy? Not sure why no one from India taking Champions Trophy seriously and thinking only about the South Africa tour :(

agree

Another good innings against quality pacers & good spinners in a difficult pitch, fantastic.

Because we'll be judged on South African tour rather than Champions' trophy. We've faced enough humiliation in England and Australia, it's time to show to the world that we still can compete. Preparing the youngsters for the ultimate test is better than winning a 'Champions' trophy'. We already have the World Cup, remember ;)

He has imroved heck of a lot. Let's see how he goes in SA. I reckon he'll do quite well. Looks a great prospect.

Shikhar Dhawan

Is he aggressive like Sehwag or Ghambir type of opener?

Back to back hundreds in international cricket. :) Well done ! :14:

Very audacious, very Sehwagish!! India is lucky! Great replacement to the great man

Great knock!

Seemed like every indian batsman was hitting boundaries at will.

Good batting? Poor bowling? Excellent Pitch?

Seems like a combination of both Sehwag and Gambhir so far. Or perhaps I'm just picking the latter because he's left handed too, it'll take me a few more games to figure this guy out completely. But is a damn good prospect for sure. Much better than his left-handed opening counterparts elsewhere in the world already - such as Warner or Jamshed, and the like. Maybe even Alviro Peterson.

Alviro Petersen is a leftie?

Great innings today.

He has a lot of self belief and just backs himself to go for his shots.

That is going too far.. Cook is the best of 'em all. Jamshed and Warner aren't too far either. I wish this guy a very good luck

Cook? I just said he's better than Jamshed and possibly, Warner.

Bit of self belief and confidence from a good inning can do wonders if you're sincere enough about your career. Dhawan's looked like a real pro ever since that magnificent debut ton against Aussies.

How can you say he's better then Jamshed & Alviro Petersen already? Petersen has test tons in England to his name. Jamshed already has 3 tons.

Too early to say who's better. Both have potential and both have not achieved much so far.

Its been a real joy watching him bat in England. So positive.

Only a super deluded fan would rate Jamshed more than Dhawan on the evidence so far.

Dhawan has scored consecutive hundreds against better bowling attacks in more testing conditions compared to Jamshed's hundreds.

He also ripped it on his test debut where as Jamshed has been poor in tests so far.

Also, Dhawan has the ability to rotate strike unlike Jamshed.

The Shikhar Dhawan Thread

Tried to find if there was any thread about him but couldn't find one.

Shikhar Dhawan what a solid and stylish left handed batsman. Never saw him before CT 2013. That's what our Pak team is lacking i.e. a fearless batsman who could play freely.

:dhawan (smiley needed plz)

His record so far

He's old by criceting standards. Won't last long . I think he's unable to play pace and short ball.

Impressive strike rates. Aggressive lad. ''Inki batting dekh ke mazaa aata hai.'' - Ramiz

Love this player and I also really like the fact that his attitude is genuine no fake bravado with this guy unlike some other kids.

He has dispatched short balls from Roach, Morkel, Junaid and Irfan. Never seemed him uncomfortable.

People are talking as if he's 37. He's not old. Even Hussey had a huge impact for Aussies and he debuted at the age of 31! (iirc).
