His place always under threat but he has an average of almost 45 in ODIs with a SR of 90. Also he comes up big in ICC tournaments

WC: Average of 51, 2 hundreds
CT: Average of 103, 2 hundreds. Man of series in 2013.

Amazing clutch player in big ODI tournaments

And his odis stats are very good too. Avgs 44 at a good SR of 89. Better numbers than Rohit Sharma.

Player of series in ICC CT 13

Most runs by Indian in WC 15

Felt really disappointed to see him get out. Looked in terrific form and was entertaining by playing good shots. Took apart Wahab especially!

This is what i was talking abou tin the other thread. He is inconsistent player otherwise but come icc tournament always plays very reliably and has clutch innings at important parts of tournament.

Last year in asia cup, he wasn't scoring before the final then he had clutch innings in final against bangla after india lost rohit early on and saved the match alongwith kohli

if dhawan was Pakistani he would be a Pakistani ODI great by now

Record in 50 over tournaments ( World Cup, Asia Cup and Champion's Trophy):

5 hundreds, 5 fifties, average of 64.4 , SR: 93

Amazing clutch batsman. Opposite of glorified JAMODI champions like Amla :bow::bow:

some Indian fans were against his selection! He has proved all his haters wrong! Special player! Always deliver in pressure situation!!

True.. batting avg of 45
strike rate of over 90 with 10 hundreds .. those are good stats

he was struggling in Tests not in odis

This guy is clutch.

Stylish, full of swag, dependable.

He wasn't in best of forms before the tournament but he came through and especially in CT he is better than bradman..

Won't last till next WC methinks.. Would've been handy, since that one is in England as well

Shikhar Dhawan: what happens to him in ICC events ?

Some.of ATG like Amla , smith , ABD have failed to impress mostly when it matters . this guy rises every time there is ICC match against any attack anywhere

How ?

He is like Sir Don Bradman of ICC events

Because India's first matches are usually with Pakistan in most ICC events. Dhawan never seems to be in good form, but lack of common sense from Pakistan allows him to get settled. The boost he gets from the first match with us makes him unstoppable for the rest of the tournament.

As good as any conspiracy theory that ignores individual struggle at the altar of a consumable narrative{s}

Steve Smith won Australia the World Cup semifinal with a brilliant hundred, and he was on course for another hundred in the final but the target wasn't big enough.

In this Champions Trophy, he did not get enough batting. He is not a coward like Amla and de Villiers.

Dhawan though, is absolutely brilliant in ICC tourneys. His simple approach to batting and clarity of mind pays dividends in pressure games. The best approach to handling pressure is to not complicate things, and he does that superbly.

He is the opposite of terrible attitude players and so called "box office stars- Stokes".

Expect him to perform one more match and then he may again lose his form for one and half year which is still okay given the batting options we have.

Asia Cup 2018 - Man of the tournament :14:

He just loves playing these multi nation tournaments.

Well done Gabbar!

He’s our most reliable batsman in big tournaments by far

Phenomenal record.

What an asset to have

A legend of the game and a far superior batsmen than anyone to have come from Asia as far as LOs game is concerned.

Phenomenal record.

What an asset to have

Best part is he does it at a high SR thus taking pressure off Rohit who is a slow starter.
