Its a tricky one . . I have answered yes to the question, but it really depends on the alternative options. I don't want any local coach anywhere near the head coach position . .not because I have anything against them, but I just don't think anyone has the relevant experience or skills, analytical prowess, required professionalism (especially), and vision! Listening to most of them on TV is straight cringe worthy! They don't know nothing about fielding, top fitness regimes, science and power of data in todays game, waht to look for, etc. etc. (I can go on and on) . .
Foreign coaches . . well, depends on who's on the table . .
As for Mickey Arthur. Like I said, its tricky for the following reasons:
1. He has brought a shift in culture in the national setup . . knowing some people who are close to the cricket team vouch for that . . fielding (though it has dipped sharply since Steve Rixon left, is a massive thing in training and off the field)
2. Culture on fitness . .someone told me the average fitness from the time Mickey joined to now of the national team . . and it has gone up manifolds . I don't remember the exact figure so I don't want to misquote . .
3. Professinonalism in general has also improved . .
Making it tricky . . our results haven't improved at all! In fact, they have been pretty abysmal . . you can say that he had a very young team with a few bad eggs . . but you can see its starting to come together with a few promising under 25 year olds . . so there's reason for hope as far as I am concerned . .
See, I have always maintained, you can bring any coach in the world and the results won't change drastically . . because the output of the national team is directly proportional to whats happening below the national level . . that needs to be fixed . . coaches and professionalism and fielding and culture there will fix the national team in the long run . . Mickey recognizes that . . which is why I have hope from Wasim khan!
Immediately, I would like to see a chance in batting, bowling and fielding coaches . . the batting coach has been around 5 years . . thats enough time anyway . . bowling has regressed in the last year or 2 . . fielding . well the coach is not that old but standards have dipped . .
Bottomline, changing the coach will have no impact on results of this cricket team! So I would stick with Mickey . . but I would be curious to know who the alternatives are . .
