Should Pakistan have played five bowlers in all the Test matches in England?

To me that is a big blunder Pakistan has made. :inti

1. we had to take 20 wickets, to get back in series
2. same bowlers have played all series, they would have been tired also
3. we had taken such a large squad, surely 1 bowler no matter which proper bowler, batting all rounder, bowling all rounder, etc, could have been played.
4. alternatively Nasim could have been replaced with bowling all rounder type bowler (e.g. sohail khan, twice performed well in practice games, same games played by rest of bowlers), and Fawad or Asad replaced with Shadab.
5. playing 5 bowlers doesn't just add more to your arsenal but it actually helps improve performance of rest of 4 bowlers as they have to bowl less often, shorter spells, faster pace, etc.

Sohail Khan is being missed here.

Ideal bowling squad :-

Sohail
Abbass
Shaheen/Naseem
Yasir
Shadab

my point is not even that it had to be a particular bowler only, pick any to add/replace from current same 4 and could have provided much better options:
1. picked Sohail, could have helped take couple of wickets at least with first and second new bowl (esp in 5 bolwer attack where he didn't have to bbowl 20 overs)
2. picked Wahab (opposed to Amir he had declared availability for test series), could have bowler short spells of short pitch bowling to try and break partnership like Stokes once bowler in WI series when nothing was happening, or got reverse swing later on.
3. picked Kashif Bhatti, just kept one end tight, not giving 4 rpo, drying runs one end, other end bowler creates opportunity.
4. picked Fahim Ashraf, again just keep one end tight at 2 rpo, creating opportunity on other end, though he also took some wickets in practice games.

This team management habitually makes the same mistake again and again of adopting UAE tactics to sena wickets and conditions.

Is an extra batsman in Fawad Alam going to make up for conceding 600-700 runs in the first innings.

I have given up on Misbah, Waqar and even Azhar ever being held accountable for anything

If playing 5 bowlers meant including one or both of Shadab and Faheem, mark my words it would have not made a difference.

The longer you spend on Pakistan's bench, the better the player becomes.

The problem is the two absolutely shameless individuals at 3 and 5, who've batted like tailenders outside Asia for the last 3 years, means our batting is weak to begin with and needs all the help it can get.

If we had a half-decent top six, we could afford to play allrounders.

Faheem isn't good enough. He shouldn't be selected in any case.

They could play 11 bowlers it wont make a difference when your coach is misbah and your captain is azhar ali.

7. Shadab Khan
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Mohammad Amir
10. Mohammad Abbas
11. Rotate Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah

I can’t see how they can be tired when there has been so much rain.

The four main bowlers are pretty good. Yasir twice bowled out a stronger England side than this a couple of tours ago.

The problem has been tactical - spreading the field at the first hint of a counterattack instead of keeping catchers up.

Absolutely, look at our 2018 series, hate on Mickey all you want but you need 5 bowlers to win in England. Faheem as an extra bowler would have done wonders for our team. I’m not saying he’s a great bowler, but he could’ve took the load off Yasir and the other pacers, thereby keeping the bowling unit fresh.

If only Amir was still playing tests. Why couldn’t we just use him as an overseas specialist he would have been way better than Shaheen and Naseem.

I would have played five bowlers - preferably Sohail & drop Fawad. Don’t think one extra batsman is giving much to PAK, may be 20-30 extra runs, but a fifth bowler could have made this attack much better. PAKs game should be built around taking 20 wickets at lower expenses, not out batting opponent.

Why, when conditions help the bowlers so much?

Some people are forgetting that Shadab didn't even bowl that many overs in the 1st match.
