As per Najam Sethi:

“In this background, the hybrid model was the best solution and that’s precisely why I advocated for it so strongly. The acceptance of the hybrid model means the event will take place as originally planned, the ACC will stay together and united, and the great game of cricket will continue to thrive and move forward in what will be interesting and exciting times for the subcontinent cricket fans in the coming 20 months."

So seems Pakistan will travel to India.

Is that the right decision? Should they hold back and ask for a Hybrid Model in the World Cup as well?

Pakistan must play it's matches a t a neutral venue, be it Bangladesh or srilanka

I voted Yes.

PCB got 4 Asia cup matches because the compromise is that they will travel to India.

If they try to be too cheeky, the Asia Cup is in September and then there is the CT 2025.
BCCI will try everything in its power to make sure that those events don't take place in Pakistan.

That's the reality. PCB just can't match BCCI.

Spot on

What's PCB plan when BCCI eventually doesn't tour for 2025 CT? They should be willing and ready to boycott tours to India. They didn't even get a binding contract signed for 2025 CT. That's the least they should have done.

This 'compromise' is something you have made up. I haven't heard it from non-Indian media.

There is no way on earth Pakistan was going to boycott the World Cup anyways.

But now that the Asia Cup issue is done and dusted, tha chances are pretty much zero..

You expect PCB to tell people that they compromised?

If Indian media has got this news from BCCI then that's what the truth is. BCCI doesn't need to lie.

Now PCB can turn around and still decide to skip the WC in India or make demands at the last moment but then that will have its future consequences. Cricketing events will not end at the Asia cup.

Seems like Pushover Cricket Board has already agreed to travelling to India whenever they are told to.

Pakistan should not go to India.PCB has no guts.

I think its more a reflection on the nation, always happy to bow down for the mighty $.

If I was Pakistan I would refuse but if not win it and then wear free Kashmir t shirts to show the world, its the Indians who are the aggressors.

Lmao.

Like PCB has a choice in the matter.

They can boycott this World Cup if they'd like to crucify their futures.

PCB has no guts, thats why they will go to India. This is what u mean. How many ICC events would PCB boycott in India ? PCB would have to shut its office and cricketing operations if they boycott ICC events as they are dependent on ICC handouts irrespective of what Najam Sethi says. Rameez Raja has already said that PCB is funded by BCCI through ICC...If Pakistan has to survive as a cricketing nation then they cant boycott ICC events.

Najam Sethi mentioned that the final decision still sits with the Gov of Pakistan.

Pakistan doesn’t have approval from its government yet to compete in the Cricket World Cup in India in October.

Cricket board chairman Najam Sethi said on Friday he has written to the International Cricket Council to say the PCB cannot unilaterally approve the World Cup draft schedule which has the marquee match between Pakistan and India at Ahmedabad on Oct. 15.

“We have written to the ICC that we can’t give approval or disapproval to this (schedule),” Sethi said in Lahore.

“It’s our government who has to decide, just like when it comes to India, it’s their government that decides when they go to play. There is no point asking us if we will play in Ahmedabad.

“When the time comes, first, the government will decide whether we are going or not, then the government decides where we will play (the matches). Our decision will rest on these two important conditions.”

Pakistan is also down to play in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.

“When I discussed this issue with the prime minister (Shahbaz Sharif), he hasn’t yet decided about this (participation in the World Cup), so it’s premature to say anything,” Sethi said.

The neighboring countries haven’t played any bilateral cricket series for more than a decade for political reasons. They have regularly met in ICC tournaments, though. The last time Pakistan toured India was in 2016 for the T20 World Cup.

India has already said it will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in August-September. The Asia Cricket Council on Thursday approved Pakistan’s proposal to host four games and Sri Lanka to stage nine games.

India Pakistan are set to play the 2023 WC Clash in Ahmedabad PCB chief Najam Sethi has cast major doubt over the fixture Sethi did not confirm if Pakistan will travel to India for the event

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has cast a major doubt over the blockbuster 2023 Cricket World Cup fixture between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, just a day after PCB's hybrid model for the 2023 Asia Cup was officially accepted.

While the International Cricket Council (ICC) has yet to officially announce the schedule for the blockbuster clash, multiple media reports have stated that the marquee clash will take place in Ahmedabad at the largest cricket stadium in the world.

However, Sethi refused to even confirm if Pakistan will travel to India for the event and claimed it is a decision that will be taken by the Pakistan government. On the matter of the venue in Ahmebadad, Sethi stated that they could ask for the venue to be changed like they did in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

"PCB has told the ICC that it is decision of the government regarding travelling to India for the World Cup." The discussion on venues will be made after the government permits PCB to send the team to India," said Sethi in a press conference.

"Even if the schedule is announced and they keep our matches at certain venues, our government can decide to ask for those venues to be changed and can also decide to not send us to India for the World Cup at all. It depends on the ruling party closer to the event.

"We will get permission from the government to play our matches in Ahmedabad. We changed the venue from Dharamsala to Kolkata in 2016, it depends on the government and our security considerations," Sethi added.

The 2016 T20 World Cup was the last time Pakistan's cricket team visited India. The India-Pakistan group stage clash was shifted to Kolkata from Dharamshala just about 10 days before the fixture.

Ahmedabad is also expected to host the final of the 2023 World Cup.

Yes. Going up against BCCI will be the death of PAK cricket. PSL isn't IPL so don't expect it to keep PCB alive.

No issues in touring India. Go to India and put in a good performance. PCB got 4 Asia Cup games at home. Mission accomplished. Let's be real, with the way things are between India and Pakistan, India is not going to tour Pakistan anytime soon.

If India cannot play in Pakistan then Pakistan should not play in India. Just do what India does, say we cannot come as the government has not given approval. I know this risks isolating us but we have been bending over backwards for India for so many years trying to take the high road and it has not really benefited us in any way. Our world cup matches should be played at a neutral venue as it is not safe for Pakistanis in India. I am even OK with never playing against India. Sick of their disgusting politics.

What type of a cricket crazy Pakistani fan would not want to watch their team play in a World Cup? And what will it achieve? All it'll result in is financial loss for the PCB, and losing the opportunity of hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy. People are forgetting that the World Cup and Champions Trophy are ICC events, the Asia Cup is not.

This is what I have been saying. Joshila Bhai kept insisting the Asia Cup hybrid model included this compromise.

BCCI will try everything in its power to make sure that those events don't take place in Pakistan.

But if the Gov doesn’t give approval, how can the PCB defy it? They could bar the PAK players from boarding any aircraft for example.

Why does PCB feel that they will be safer in Kolkata than Dharamsala? Every place in India is equally safe or unsafe depending on how they look at it. There is no difference between Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Calcutta and Chennai. India being the host will decide where the matches to be held. PCB can request for certain cities where they feel that their supporters can have better connectivity in terms of travel but certainly can't dictate terms to BCCI.

Pakistan can try to pull off this trick. But cricketing events won't end with WC 2023. BCCI and India will have their own ways to get back at the PCB.

We will know when the WC starts. No?

Sethi makes a lot of statements for public consumption and then quietly falls in line.

Pushing for hybrid model will hurt PCB as BCCI will retaliate.

However, not participating in the tournament is something which BCCI can't do anything about. Ideally PCB should refuse to travel to India on moral ground and as mark of protest.

There's all sorts of crazies in the Pakistan fan circle so don't take their opinion too seriously.

Pakistan will travel to play the World Cup as an ICC member.

No fans are to be allowed for the Pakistan vs. New Zealand World Cup warm-up game in Hyderabad.

The security agencies had earlier raised red flags over the two back-to-back World Cup 2023 league games scheduled to be held on October 9 and October 10 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

In a startling development, due to a lack of adequate security cover stemming from a changed schedule that runs into festivals, the World Cup warm-up game between Pakistan and New Zealand on September 29 will be played under closed doors – no fans will be present- at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad. The Indian board will be issuing directions to Bookmyshow, the ticketing partner for the World Cup, to refund the money to those who have booked tickets for the game.

“The game will be played without spectators and those who have booked their tickets, their money will be refunded,” a BCCI official confirmed.

The city police had asked the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to postpone the game as they won’t be able to garner enough security as they are tied up with the festivals Ganesh Visarjan and Milan-Un-Nabi that culminate on September 28. With the schedule already rejigged, the organizers were unable to accede to the request and hence it has now been decided that the spectators will be barred entry.

The security agencies had earlier raised red flags over the two back-to-back World Cup 2023 league games scheduled to be held on October 9 and October 10 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. The October 10th game involves Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the match on the 9th is between New Zealand and Netherlands. Around 3,000 police personnel will be deployed for one game and a large number of police personnel will be stationed at the hotel where the Pakistan team will be put up.

The original itinerary for the 2023 World Cup has already undergone a drastic change with as many as nine games being rescheduled. The India-Pakistan showdown was initially penciled at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for October 15, the first day of the Navratri festival, which is celebrated with much fervor across Gujarat. The clash of dates prompted the game to be brought forward by a day.

Also, Kolkata was earlier scheduled to host the Pakistan-England fixture on November 12, coinciding with the Kali Puja, a major festival in Bengal. That game has now been marked for November 11.

These two modifications necessitated several other games to be moved to fit into the holes left in the schedule. For example, when the India-Pakistan game was moved to October 14, there were three matches on that day, prompting a change. Modifications were also required to ensure that teams had a fair gap between fixtures to accommodate travel, rest, and training between matches.

And the next day, whoever is the Prime Minister along with his ministers will go around the world with a begging bowl

Stand, morals, ethics look good on nations who are not beggars. Their "protest" has some value as well

THANK GOD WE ARE GOING FOR THE WORLD CUP. OTHERWISE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF CRICKET IN PAKISTAN- WOULD HAVE BECOME JUST LIKE HOCKEY

I don't think there should be a debate on this because everyone knows that Pakistan isn't going to miss the world cup whether it is playing in India or not.
