It is clear the long terms strategy of BJP/RSS is to remove all traces of non-Hindu history in India, whether by renaming historical locations, or by rewriting history, but why stop here?

Why not rename India, to Hindustan, the name of the land before the British arrived? 'Hindustan' is still used within India today to refer to the modern day India.

Hindustan - The Land of the Hindus! - BJP/RSS could not find a better mantra!

What are they waiting for?

Exactly.
Or even better they could call themselves using one of their old names. Go back 1000+ years lol.
Instead of moving forwards, they're moving backwards

Even if they rename it preferred name will be bharat, I think op is following too many Pakistani news channels these days they are the ones who uses the term Hindustan mostly

It's actually the opposite.
Most Pakistanis say Bharat

Just call it Bharat I say.

Well that's no surprise I am sure many Bharat cheerleaders will agree. But I just don't think it is commercially viable, much like Hindu names which are not easily recognisable in the western world. we have seen a large influx of Sri Lankans in the UK recently, and their names are not the easiest to work with.

Bharat is easier to pronounce then Hindustan.

It's actually the other way around, the Pakistani media usually refers to India as "Bharat" whereas they reserve "Hindustan" for the Mughal/Muslim period of India and anything that pertains to south asian Islamicate culture.

I do think India should officially change their name to "Bharat". Iran used to be called by the exonym "Persia" until the 1930s but then the Shah took a stand and demanded other countries officially address his country as Iran otherwise he would cut off diplomatic relations with them. Iran like Bharat is an endonym - name used by the natives to refer to their own country, unlike Iran, India has yet to remove its colonial name.

Agreed. Bharat is ok rather than hindustan.

India should rename itself to The Secular Democratic Republic of India, while continuing to be a majoritarian hindu state internally. It is more important to appear good than be good.

India is a name given by outsiders. They can rename it to whatever. For me their name is hindutvistan

Only for Indians. For us British, Hindustan rolls far easier off the tongue, and also is far more descriptive of the population. Although the 'stan' part does make it sound suspiciously Islamic, but I guess the 'Hindu' precursor should dispel fears about that.

Having thought about this, wouldn't it be better to call the country Hindudesh?

Another thought has occurred to me, perhaps the RSS cult want to avoid having Hindu in their nation's name given the etymology of the term and link with the river Indus which runs through Pakistan. RSS would not want the world to think Pakistan is responsible for bestowing their identity. This would be the mother of all ironies.

Rock and a hard place.

Well that could be fixed by removing British inflicted borders and absorbing Pakistan back into the Hindudesh bosom. But of course, if you did the same with Bangladesh, that would mean almost half the country would be Muslim. What a terrible dilemma for the RSS. Maybe better to avoid the subject altogether.

This is a very poor quality thread with no content whatsoever except Pakistanian's post which does leave room to bring forward an argument. The amount of posts that people have posted here in proportion to the views says a lot about what even common Pakistani people gives gravity to it.

Seems like lately, most of the threads that are popping out are either born out of insecurities or to just rile up the community to have some fun.

These kind of threads should be taken into note which brings down the quality of PP.

You want to hear the funny part? The people complaining about this thread are still reading it! :)))

Little do they know in 2003, Vishva Hindu Parishad [Militant wing of Hindutva] demanded the name of India be renamed to Hindustan. Obviously in 2003, Hindutva was considered a fringe ideology, but now this cult has seeped through Indian society to the very top of the chain; their demands now hold more weight.

If Modi wants the world to take Hindutva seriously, then he should show the world that India can stand up on its own feet without the need to walk on the coat-tails of British/Islamic history in India.

So now laughing at a joker is equivalent to taking it seriously :))

Iranians abroad still call themselves Persians. You won't ever get a restaurant described as Iranian, it is always advertised as Persian food.

The British like to remind the Hindu's that we ruled you for such a long time:salute
