Should there be separate set of pacers for LOIs and Tests?

I think other than maybe 1 or 2 pacers no pacer should be playing all three formats of the game. This will keep them fresh and energetic for every game they play.

Recent example is of WI, their test pacers were

Gabriel
Roach
Joeseph
Holder

and their ODI pacers so far have been

Cottrell
Thomas
Brathwate
Holder

Same theory is being followed by Eng as well as India. Bumrah is the only indian pacer who plays all formats and Shami has just been included in the LOI squad because WC is coming and there are no more tests for few months.

This strategy in the current era looks to be pretty successful as top 3 teams in tests and ODIs are following this strategy to have players especially bowlers completely fresh when they are playing for their teams. Test bowlers only need to practice certain lengths, they are not going to be working effortlessly towards slow balls and yorkers required in LOIs and also they will remain fresh and fit. Vice versa for the pacers playing the LOIs.

For Pak I dont think other than maybe Hassan and Shaheen any bowler should be playing all 3 formats.

Test pacers could be

Abbas
Amir
Arshad Iqbal
Hassan
Shaheen
Ali Shafiq
Sadaf Hussain
Mir Hamza etc

ODI pacers could be

Hassan
Junaid
Shaheen
Rauf
Hasnain
Musa etc

Obviously they can all be shifted across the formats considering the form and importance of the series or tournament but playing same bowlers across formats throughout the year should not be the way forward.

I feel bowlers would be more fresh, fit and effective in this manner. You dont want the bowler to just go through the motions.

After the NZ whitewash there was talk of a rotation policy for our seamers to avoid burnout.

Instead we went full strength against Zimbabwe B in the summer - what a waste of an opportunity to blood new talent.

Exactly, during last year or so many a times bowlers like Amir, Hassan looked like going through the motion without much intensity. Asia cup was one such example.

Shaheen outperformed all of the previous pacers in last 6 months or so and other than talent one of the reasons was he as he has just come in and is yet to be fatigued under this much load of bowling across formats.

What aggression and energy we are seeing from Thomas today, I dont think it would have been possible if he would have played and bowled 100s of overs in test series. Something that Pak management should look into.

Pakistan badly needs to do this. A solid rotation policy for the pacers.

We are seeing what playing in all formats has done to Amir, his body is fatigued and he has technical problems in his action now.

I think its a good idea specially looking at Shaheen recent workload. I'm all for it. Abbas, Mir Hamza and Hasan in tests with Hasan also playing the other two formats.

Roach would have played the ODIs but he picked up an injury. Gabriel was banned otherwise he may have played too. Joseph surely will play ODIs . Not a great example to use.

But if a bower is good enough for ODIs and tests, he should play both. No need to have separate formats if a bower is good enough for both.

I see no reason why we should have to. An easier fix in terms of player fitness would be to end our obsession with winning pointless t20 series.

Yes it has been due to forced reasons for WI but it still payed off with Cottrell and Thomas being fresh and performing as well.

I have also given examples of India and England who both have been most consistent teams across formats recently. They also have been following the same strategy with only 1 or 2 pacers playing all the formats and in each format fresh set of pacers come in to support them.

Not saying that bowlers cant play the other formats especially someone like Hassan or Shaheen but not every match or test and with other specialist bowlers around for each format it would be much easier.

Yes pacers should be rested for T20s as well but bowling 100s of overs in tests and expecting everyone of them to play the ODIs with same energy in every series is a tough ask as well.

You can play couple of pacers across formats and they should also be rested in between the matches as well unless result is at stake.

If bowlers are good enough for ODIs and tests, they should play both as I said. We should look to rotate in dead rubber games and T20 bilaterals.

I think T20 needs to be the format where we only test new bowlers. I don't see the point playing Hassan Ali or Mohammad Amir in this format.

I would be very happy to see Pakistan play SSA, Harris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain in T20is for a bit. Also rotate with bowlers like Mohammad Musa and Ilyas. They should gain exposure here and then drafted into the ODI side. Then the Test side
