Should West Indies be banned as a cricketing nation?

Watching West Indian cricketers playing T20 leagues all over while they have anot international series scheduled is simply annoying. T20 leagues no matter how significant should not take precedence over national commitment.

Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Pollard, Simmons all first choice West Indian cricketers are seen featuring in IPL wherein their national side is taking on Pakistan.

This in my mind sets a wrong precedence and should be strongly dealt with. Should the WI cricket board take action against these errant players and failure to take action permit ICC to ban West Indies team ?

I think the solution really is for IPL to coordinate with the cricket boards. Like FIFA does with the clubs.

It is easy to pass judgement on players for their preference for money over their national teams, but honestly... it is not as if their countrymen are dying due to their neglect. It is a game, a test of how well they can get wood on leather or vice versa.

While their boards and administrators make mega bucks, they can't be criticized for wanting a share.

This is such a myth. The attendances for the CPL were excellent. The turnout during the ODI and T20 series v Pakistan was just fine. WI are still churning out good youngsters so clearly there is still interest in the sport.

Test attendances, like most of the world, are dire.

The Caribbean people are sick of dictatorial and inept administration, and a team scrapping 8th and 9th in the world. Give them a good product and they'll watch.

First clear your stance, you want a nation (group of islands) banned or a set of players ?

WICB officials have consistently been unfair with their players over the years. why should the players leave life-changing money on the table to go work for a corrupt board

Don't think BCCI would like ICC's involvement other than creating a window for it.

But creating a window is difficult if you have cases like Pakistani players who can't play IPL, and IPL is still too small to keep most of the international players involved - only the very best foreigners are playing in it.

Pakistan is a single country. And why should Pakistan be banned if their top players don't play for national team. Your players ran off to play ICL.

There is no need to reduce the number even further when few enough genuine teams play international Cricket. In every Sport you have international teams that don't or struggle to make the grade. The West Indies still have some very good players albeit their glory days are well behind them.

Simple answer no, Op needs to understand WI is not a nation it is just a cricket team so nationalism really doesn't come into play, money is the big motivator, bad management with quotas and stuff have left SA an actual country losing players to kolpak and immigration, also ipl pays money to respective boards for their player's participation, so ipl is doing its job be it remunerating the players or the board, it is the board's job to make sure no cricket is played during ipl if most of your players depend on ipl to make big bucks, boards like NZC and SA do it, WICB needs to follow suit especially given that their players would happily pick ipl ahead of national team

They can't. In this world there are individual rights. These people are not slaves that they have to do whatever is considered appropriate by administrators or random observers. If they don't want to play for their 'nation' and again WI IS NOT A COUNTRY, that's their personal choice.

actually attendances in carribean are always decent to good. Esp considering the dire quality of cricket on offer and the third string sides they put out

ive always wondered on these forums as to how the fans show up for knowing they will not watch the best eleven of the Carribean and see boring cricket on poor pitches

He paid his dues. Dude has 100+ Test matches with 2 triple centuries and 3rd (or maybe 2nd) highest average of all openers in last 15 years.
