^ ahmed shazad and umar akmal playing good knocks under pressure.

SNGPL have enough lead..Would be difficult for HBL to chase it down, unless Younis produces one his trademark second innings gym...

Umar has the highest match aggregates till now..:)

Although Umar will miss some dollars by not going to BPL..But this is a blessing in disguise for him...

He badly needed some 4 day cricket to regain some confidence....He can now play 4 to 5 matches more in Q.A Trophy ..

Too much of T20 cricket, Hong Kong sixes and slogging job in ODI cricket was hampering his development...He is the best ODI batsman and i am sure after playing some more 4 day games he will become Pakistan's best test batsman too....

Gul gets him on 76:facepalm:

I think that was sliding down the legside or must have edged that anyway good match winning knock..don't think HBL can chase this.
Plumb, poor shot played around a straight ball.

There have been plenty of positives in this game:

1. Hafeez has learned that he is going to have to practise like crazy to cope as a batsman in South Africa.

2. Misbah and Younis have both seen first hand that Taufeeq's technique has fallen apart, and that it would be suicide to play him in South Africa.

3. Azhar Ali has lasted 200 balls at the crease in the match, and played one lovely cut off Adil.

4. Misbah is in decent form.

5. Umar Gul is bowling well and will be a key weapon in South Africa, where he was badly missed due to injury last time.

6. Abdur Rehman is not even bowling well in home conditions, and it would be insane to play him in South Africa.

7. Ehsan Adil has promising control of line and length, and he should obtain better bounce in South Africa, but he is very much a Test reserve.

8. Younis Khan needs time at the wicket.

9. So does Asad Shafiq.

10. Adnan Akmal is a lousy hooker, and it's a good job he's not going to South Africa.

I wouldn't call them all positives. Mostly observations to learn from.

SNGPL have more than enough to knock HBL over, expecting a big victory. :misbah

Every thing depends on Younis,he plays well in second innings...But he will have to score a huge hundred to get them closer to the target...

Umar Akmal is by far the most talented batsman we have. He is managed so badly.

How is he not in the test team?

Toufeeq is severely out of form, nasir should get the nod to open instead. Good to see umar akmal make a score, he made a 100 last fc match and 70 odd in this one, needs to improve his temperament a bit and surely can be considered for the number 6 position in the future (not now though).

I agree with you, especially the taufeeq umar point. And if players (batsman) fail in the sa test series, then the likes of umar akmal, ahmed shehzad, adnan e.t.c should be given a chance.

Because he was used to get pretty 20s and 30s,when others were not able to get even 20s ...Then Chief Selector dropped him with a demand that he should get some big scores and we will be brought back ..Now have a look at his stats since his dropping from the squad....

These are not 20s and 30s....

97,20,165,44,7,93,40,48,21,18,16,57*,107,16,76....Average 59

top post..

he was removed from the test side very unfairly..he was brought back against WI where he averaged in the 60s and then suddenly dropped again for his failures before the WI series...does this dropping make sens? I mean it's like punishing him twice for the same sin.

These are his first class scores since getting dropped...He averaged 42,not 60 in West indies i think and was the second most run getter on those difficult pitches.......But his dropping from test squad after England series without getting a game is more stupid...

now,he has the chance to improve and prove in 4 day cricket, still he can play some more matches in Q.A Trophy..

Blessing in disguise that he does not go BPL.

Umar can really be the KP/AB of our team and I'm being 100 percent serious.

he has the capability to be, no one will ever deny that. The kid is all talent but seriously he should learn to play more mature knocks and For the love of God finish the game. Today he played maturely and gave the team a good lead. He needs to be a regular at this or he will be forgotten. I am glad he is playing this tournament and not some league as this these first class matches will help him develop and Mature him. He needs control and this can be it.

Yes but of course he will improve with age. I remember reading Viv was the same early on in his career. No I am NOT comparing Umar to Viv before some fool points that out.

Also please look at what position he batted at today. He batted at 4 today and had a lot of time to play. He succeeded due to this.

Umar Akmal has to be able to let go off dot balls. He needs to be able to play inside the line.

Good to see Umar Gul finding some form. Shehzad and Umar Akmal were very good with the bat, which are positive signs. Let's hope Junior can put in these kind of performances against SA in the LOIs. Misbah and Ali Waqas both played well in the 1st innings, but then they both flopped in the 2nd innings. :)) Both the Farhat brothers were disappointing as usual. Azhar Ali was decent. Shafiq and our test match openers Hafeez & Taufeeq couldn't score big, which is a worrying sign ahead of the SA tour. But good to see Hafeez bowling so well. Younus failed to make an impact in the 1st innings, but let's hope he too can find some form in the 2nd innings. It'll be interesting to see how Shafiq, Younus, and Shehzad bat in the 2nd innings.

SNGPL were clearly in front after HBL's 1st innings. But HBL's bowlers, led by Gul, have made a good comeback, and tomorrow will be an interesting day's play. Overall, I think SNGPL will win this.

Oh and BTW, I hope everyone saw how Adnan Akmal batted in this game. Seems like Qasim made a right decision to pick Sarfraz over Adnan.

I think Taufeeq should be in the starting XI for the 1st test. He's not been in good form of late, and he often needs a lot of luck to score big, but he's done well as an opener with Hafeez for Pakistan. He should get one more chance, I believe. If he fails in the South Africa tour, then he should be dropped and Jamshed or Afaq should be considered as Hafeez's opening partner in tests.
