Does this count for messages? Don't want my friends landing me in jail. :)))

Pakistan Telecom authority? Its law of the country nothing wrong in them reminding you about it and being careful and in what you share on social media/apps.

I remember when the Panama case was hitting its climax they sent everybody a one liner saying "Don't do corruption".. The nation had a right laugh about it.

So what is blasphemy?

Does expressing doubt about the truthfulness of some of the supernatural incidents described in the holy texts equal blasphemy?

Or does it have to be an insult like the ones from Vilks or Rushdie?

The ridiculousness of the message aside, I'm appalled that no one thought of proofreading it so that there's a space after the period after law, so that "law.Such" does not appear as a link. That, and the fact that they don't specify where the "info" is at pta.gov.pk. Is it a link at the website, or an email address on that domain? Incompetence to go with the paranoia.

If a non-Pakistani citizen made 'blasphemous' comments on an internet forum (such as PP) which were read by Pakistanis living in Pakistan, could the Pakistani authorities prosecute him/her under Pakistani law if/when he/she subsequently went to Pakistan for a visit?

If it were traced, and especially if it became public knowledge, do expect a prosecution.

I'll bet it will depend upon the citizenship of the individual. eg Can you imagine Pakistani authorities prosecuting a U.S. citizen visiting Pakistan for making 'blasphemous' comments whilst they were outside Pakistan?

Hopefully this website grts hacked.

Im backing the atheist bradrans

Would never happen. One call from Trump bhai will do the trick. Same for Pakistani citizens, I believe those with money can buy their way into saying anything they want. Those without are the ones getting lynched by mobs..

True.

Although when bodyguards kill the very individuals they are sworn to protect, and then get lauded as heroes by politicians, judges, lawyers and the like, never mind the maulvi brigades, for carrying out such murders, then you know that the religious mafia have taken over.

Pakistan has regressed to replicating the European Middle Ages practice of effectively passing a death sentence by simply accusing someone of being a witch. The test of finding out if someone was a witch or not was to tie them up and throw them into the river or the lake. If they drowned then they were innocent and not a witch. If they floated and survived, then they were a witch and thus put to death. Either way, the mere accusation meant a death certain sentence.

In Pakistan, it is the same situation now. If anyone is seeking revenge against another, has a grudge or a dispute with them, perhaps a land dispute, then simply accuse them of blasphemy, concoct a story of them saying something 'blasphemous', and hey presto, you've effectively sentenced them to death (by mob rule).

After the horrible lynching of Mishal, this is just shameful by the govt. Not only that this should not be the State's job to police such things, secondly, how easy it is to implicate someone and than have them lynched or arrested by using the blasphemy accusation. This is going to give more power and autonomy to the radicals. Pathetic!
