Somerset vs Pakistanis | Tour Match | Taunton | Jul 3rd-5th, 2016 | Day 1

Imran Khan only has reverse swing up his sleeve, and if Pakistan need a reverse swing bowler in England then they already have Wahab Riaz. No need for mediocre 125kph trundlers who can't swing the ball.

Jr is a very under-rated bowler. :)

2 sixes in a row from Hafeez! Hes a class player when hes set and attacking. Most complete opener in Pakistan. We need him because no other player in the team attacks pacers.

Somerset have said this is Adam Hose' first class debut therefore it is presumably an agreed 11 v 11 game.

Imran Khan bowls alot faster than 125 kph, so lets get him that respect.
Secondly, whats the point of having Sohail when all he is going to do is leak runs with a beauty once every few overs? We could have a very good attack containing of:
Amir
Rahat
Imran Khan
Yasir
Amir and Rahat can share the first few overs and then you can bring on Imran to tighten the length and have the English batsmen under serious pressure.
This will help Amir and Yasir in the long run.

I can guarantee Imran will not tighten the length. The length he bowls in the UAE is no good in England, and a fuller length won't work because he can't swing the ball. You don't pick bowlers to contain in Test cricket, defensive bowling is for LOI cricket, it's all about taking those 20 wickets and attacking the batsman. Defensive roles are given to allrounders and spinners (outside Asia). I'd rather play Wahab Riaz than play Imran Khan.

fully agree, and patience is name of the game, we have to dry up the runs and imran is best at that, and secondly don't know why poor guy get so much stick and is being completely discarded even withou getting tested in english conditons and some fans act as if sohail and wahab are mcgrath and marshall, both wahab and sohail can be deadly on rare good days but on bad days they can reall kill the game for pak by leaking runs at alarming rate, atleast imran is certain not to do that, rahat also can leak runs but he atleast has complete skill set and make up with some jaffas. So for first test ideal bowling attack is Amir, Rahat, Imran and Yasir,

Shan dropped by Davey in follow through. Strange that people are bashing Hafeez because he "has looked edgy" but Shan has gotten lucky more times.

Somerset bowlers will be begging for mercy if MoHa gets his eye in.

i would presume that Wahab is not selected because he has been playing in England for the last month.

So Sohail Khan and Rahat Ali are fighting for the last slot. And knowing Mickey Arthur, he will take as much notice of how many runs they score as wickets they take. He will not pick a Test team with four number elevens.

I agree but some of us Pakistanis wont stop bashing him even though he is the only dynamic player in our Test team and one of our 3 best ODI batsmen along with Babar and Haris.

On a flat wicket, he is the best Pakistani batsman by some distance and when he gets his eye in, he times the ball as well as anyone in the world.

Problem is that he is a nervous starter and quality bowlers get the better of him because of his nerves.

People haven't forgiven him for the horror display in SA 3 years ago. If he scores some runs this time, he will get the credit he deserves.

Looks like Somerset is also playing a second string team with plenty of mainstay guys rested. So given that fact and the pitch being pretty harmless, this is pretty average atm.

Why do people want him dropped from ODIs though? Were they not watching any Pakistan series since the 2015 world cup?

Not exactly second string. Just Rogers and Allenby not playing.

We need Hafeez to play positively. He's just so good to watch when he's in full flow, this tour will define Hafeez's legacy.

Even when Hafeez is out of form he is playing better than Shan apart from one LBW shout early on

Most people want him dropped from all formats, they just don't like him. That is the only explanation.

Yes, he is not a defensive player. Needs to stick to his strengths and play with intent.

Sohail khan is a better batsmen than Rahat. Rahat is useless with the bat

Don't let me down on this tour Hafeez, I've stuck my neck out for you. :moyo 7 AM, what the heck am I doing still up.

Somerset 1st team have games so there is nothing we can do.

Run rate should be no less than 3.5

Overall it should be over 3.5. However, I don't mind 2.5 during the new ball spell, if Hafeez and Masood/Aslam can do something like this regularly, then they have effectively protected the middle order from the new ball.

Anybody watching live or on tv? - why there are so many dot balls? [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848] that worries me a lot, this tuk tuk, no strike rotation will not work against main team.

Atleast openers are there and have seen off new ball, which is positive.

How are conditions right now? - when our openers can stay on the wicket, without knowing anything I assume flat conditions [emoji14][emoji14]

ahh so this Paul van Meekeren guy is a dutch brother.

Good to see Netherland natives going places in cricket.

Hope they become full member.

How can we watch it on TV?? It's a practice match dude, not being televised.

Anyone listening on radio. What was the dismissal like? Was away

was a really good delivery, Hafeez brought the bat down late and got bowled.

Commies saying he looked rusty overall aside from the two sixes. Only 8 runs apart from the sixes.

We have a good tail tbh especially if Wahab replaces Rahat in the main game

Intikhab has said Azhar will be bowling long spells. If Hafeez can get his action legal again we have enough bowling options

Shan Masood playing on 22 off 57, and 20 runs he scored by boundaries.

Dude is not rotating strike well.

Yeah, Yasir, Wahab, Sohail are better batsmen. Amir has being completely lost as a batsman since his return. He was decent batsman 6 years ago, now he cannot hold the bat, which is very disappointing to see [emoji84][emoji84][emoji84]

Micky will go with this combination of difference between Rahat and Sohail is not much, plus Sohail is better reverse swing bowler, which is important factor too.

Last 10 overs read 12/1 [emoji83][emoji83][emoji83]

This epic tuk tuk is not going to cut it. Problem with our line up is that nobody plays shots, all are too slow and have similar kind of shots, fast bowlers will find them easy to bowl at... In UAE they all wait for spinners to come, that is not going to happen in England [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

Have to say Pakistan's middle order looks very very strong. That middle order will be dangerous especially in helpful conditions. Will be interesting to see how Pakistan replaces YK and Misbah after their retirements. Babar will fit right into the middle order. The other position is up for grabs. If they can get some solid opening batsmen (Hafeez is already 35, so might not last long), Pakistan has all the makings of a solid test team in future. Batting might struggle in tough conditions, but which team doesn't atm..

If Harris can get fit he will slot in the middle order. We won't have a problem with producing tuk tuk players for test matches. It's LO batsmen that we will struggle to produce

Marcus Trescothic still plays cricket? :murali

Was a fantastic batsman...stress has cut short his international career :(

Lol commies saying the morning felt quite old fashioned as Pakistan played classic test cricket in the first session. Good on the boys for taking each and every aspect of the tour as seriously as possible.
