Looking at the score they didn't exactly go ballistic to get out. I think in Tests it works because field is more attacking. in LOIs with slightly defensive field sets they lose their plot.

Don't wanna engage with you and rana, just found this comment very interesting and wanted to give my take on it.

The issue with England is that their treating all formats as one and the same = All 3. As a result you have players who just don't understand formats.

Phil Salt is just not an odi player by any means. 32 avg and 114 sr is good for a t20 player but for an odi opener it's just okay. He's out of form atm but his peak isn't that good. Even the likes of Travis would loves dominating off the get go avg 40+ in odi.

Ben duckett is probably their only all format player atm. Root himself just isn't that good in odi. He functioned well in 2019 when all he had to do was rotate and everyone could bash but overall he's always had a terrible conversion rate in odi. 90% of the time 50 to 60 is his ceiling.

Brooks is useless in whiteball unless you play on a pitch where spin is non existent. Livingstone is also a t20 player only.

Jamie smith is not a no 3 so no idea what England were even trying to do their. He's not a good new ball player unless he's well settled in tests. In tests he gets out anytime he walks in and the new ball is available right off the bat.

To top it off their pace bowling atm is worse then even Pakistan. Their spin department is better only due to Adil rasheed but he's one man.

I have seen Buttler occasionally bat like this in the IPL as well. Very slow for 17 overs and explode. Chris Gayle is another guy who bat like this for 7 or 8 overs then suddenly explode if he still around.
