The difference in "Klass" between Heinrich and Salt is enormous.

One can score at a fast pace even by manipulating the field and taking minimal risks, by hitting along the ground.

The other has only high risk shots and a very limited range.

Yaar if only England had put the brakes on and grinded their way to a 280 score….

That would have been enough….

To lose the game in 47 overs instead of 27

Which side you prefer facing in the semi-final - Australia or South Africa?

:kp

Australia kept wickets in hand at the 40 over mark to chase down 350

The scored 140 in the last ten. This is what “other teams are doing” apparently.

Tell me I am being dishonest here!

"Let us stop the world. We have to find a white ball captain for England" - That is how i see the discussion that is going on in the commenatry.

Ironically 4 out of top 5 batsmen are their regular test batsmen. So folding inside 30 overs is crazy. Buttler, Salt, Livingstone LOI only.
Brook is useless against spinners and Jamie Smith is nothing player as of now .

Duckett and root are only quality players

Bowling is also one dimensional .
:kp

I read that both South Africa and Australia will fly to Dubai because of the scheduling with one team flying back to Lahore to play the semi-final depending on the result of the India-New Zealand match.

Can't imagine that one team will be particularly happy about that. :kp

Why is Australia and South Africa flying to dubai now ? Just wait for Tommorow game to finish :kp

Jamie smith played brilliantly in tests. They made a mess of him by forcing him to bat at 3. He is not a no.3 batsman in Tests. 6 or something. Either way, if these guys do well in Tests should do better in ODIs in terms of staying at the wicket. Even Bangladesh batsmen manage to bta 50 overs

Cricket is all about consistency. Other teams should learn from Eng how to be consistent enough. Eng prepared extremely well for the CT by getting whitewashed 0-3 in Ind. And continued the same pattern (0-3) in CT as well. This level of consistency is required by all other teams if they want to be among the top tier teams.

South Africa secure semi-final spot with comfortable win over England

With England already knocked out, Jos Buttler's final game in charge of the ODI team saw his country take on a Proteas side who have now sealed the remaining semi-final spot from Group B.

South Africa cantered to a comfortable seven-wicket win over England in the final group match of their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.

Half-centuries from Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen got them over the line as they marked their entry to the tournament's semi-finals.

Jofra Archer took the wickets of both Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs, and Klaasen fell late on, caught by Saqib Mahmood off the bowling of Adil Rashid, with just six more runs required.

David Miller did that in one hit, striking a maximum from the second ball he faced to complete the job.

In the first innings, England were bowled out for 179 within 39 overs, the lowest total in the tournament this year - and it sealed South Africa's path into the semi-finals as England would not have been able to win by a big enough margin to put Afghanistan in second spot via their net run rate.

They had fallen to 37/3 after Phil Salt, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett were all out within the first seven overs.

That was followed by a middle-order collapse. Harry Brook was out for just 19, followed by Joe Root for 37, deceived by a brilliant ball from Wiann Mulder. The pair of them had mustered a partnership of 62, the only notable one of the innings.

Liam Livingstone made only 9, out of his ground and stumped by Klaasen, and Jamie Overton reached 11 before being caught superbly by Lungi Ngidi off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada.

The tail did their best, with Archer joining outgoing captain Jos Buttler at the crease and making 25 off 31 balls.

Then Buttler departed in the 36th over for a sluggish 21 off 43 deliveries, leaving Rashid and Mahmood with the task of seeing out the innings.

And Rashid was the last man to fall, caught behind off the bowling of Mulder.

Any result apart from a heavy loss will guarantee South Africa – who now occupy the second place in Group B – a spot in the semi-final, after Australia's rain-hit fixture against Afghanistan paved their way into the last four of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Aiden Markram was leading the team instead of Temba Bavuma, who misses out due to an illness, but he departed the field in the middle of the England innings due to discomfort in his hamstring. Klaasen has assumed the captaincy.

England's Champions Trophy hopes came to a halt after Afghanistan inflicted defeat upon them in a nail-biter of a game in Lahore, making it two losses out of two in the campaign.

This will be Jos Buttler's final time as skipper in the 50-over format, who announced his decision to step down from captaincy on the eve of the fixture.

His side are without the injured Mark Wood, replaced by Saqib Mahmood.

Jos Buttler in Post Match presentation:

"That was a really disappointing performance. It was a decent surface. Root and Duckett got us in a nice position but we're just not going on to make those big telling contributions which has been the story of this side for a little bit of time now with the bat."

"As a whole group we're not getting the results and that takes away some confidence so time for everyone to go away, have a change of scene, and work hard wherever cricket takes you next."

"From this point forward it's a huge opportunity for everyone inside the dressing room and everyone outside the dressing room to put their hand up and say they want to be part of the rebuild of the white-ball teams."
"There's no doubt that the talent is there and has all the making of putting together a really good side. I'm sure Brendan and the guys at the top will formulate some plans."

"It's down to individuals to put their hand up and put a mark that they want to be part of something moving forward and get the team back to where it should be."

Chris Woakes, while speaking to local media outlet:

"Jos [Buttler] will be disappointed. It's not the way he will have wanted to sign-off. They haven't shown what they are capable of. On paper, this is a team that no-one should want to come up against. But they are just struggling to perform at the moment."

"A new voice is needed, but Jos is still one of the best players in the world and will still be integral to this England side."

What a stark contrast between top 4 and bottom 4. Bangladesh is embarrassing. 71 strike rate 22 avge

Yes, BD batting and approach need to improve. BD never gets a generation where both batting and bowling is good. Nonetheless, BD still finishes in top 6 now with a prize money of ~6cr.

I don't know why Indian posters bring up Bangladesh in these threads.

This thread is for South Africa-England game. :inti

Anyway, congratulations to South Africa. Great win.

You still have to worry about strike rate. I am not sure if your selection even looks at these metrics when they pick players. THey have to identify low strike rate players and weed out. They have to look at factors like dot balls and various other metrics.

2023 world cup strike rates. Bangladesh strike rate was not even 80 in a tournament where there were so many high scores.

England's pathetic campaign comes to an end. They should go back and think about their bazbal hype. Time to move on from Buttler. He is good enough as a player but as a captain, he has been bad.
