What's new

South Africa (229 and 243/3) defeat India (202 and 266) by 7 wickets at the Wanderers

And I'm in no doubt that we would have won this game comfortably had Rohit, Jadeja, Kohli were playing and if Siraj didn't pull his hammy on day 1.

Works both ways doesn't it?

Jadeja isn't better than Ashwin,Rohit made no difference when he last toured and Kohli is out of form.

You have high expectations from an India missing it’s main players, including captain. Surely, the greatest Asian test side has set a new benchmark.

It wasn't the defeat, that's part of the game but the "greatest Asian Test team" get humiliated on a wicket with so much juice

Again, seems like any time they don’t win, even away from home, even without their captain, it’s a humiliation for this side. That’s the standard they have set. When was the last time a side was put to such high standards?

Enough historical evidence to see how Wanderers in 4th innings is.. please do check..

Some posters have even compared SA’s win at home against India to Bangladesh’s win away from home against NZ, in terms of the shock factor.
When I was a kid, winning a game in SA was a surprise. Now, losing a game (without captain and star opener and also with one bowler injured) is a shock and humiliation. Glad to be seeing these times. :)

Forget the historical evidence- look at the pitch we say yesterday and today. Any fast bowler worth their salt would be licking his lips on that wicket

The Ind bowling was at full strength and got smashed. I would have expected the likes of Prasad and Mohanty to bowl out this Saffer batting lineup

So historical doesn't matter in that logic Kohli and Rohit missing was a huge deal.

And naw it was an alright pitch today.

Yeah i think that’s a positive to take

This is SA at their home. Conditions they have played cricket all their lives. Not the jittery Pakistan of WC’99 that Prasad can demolish without breaking a sweat. Again, I can understand that India losing an away game (without captain, star batsman and a bowler injured) is a shock to you. That’s the aura champion sides have.

Winning a single test in Australia was a dream. This side won 2 test series in Australia. Rolled over England (although I’m still disappointed they didn’t play the last test) and could still potentially win a series in SA. What times!

India needs to do a better job at fitness / injury management. That along with better team selection will ensure we see fewer shockers.

Just watched the highlights, that was some ridiculously tough quality manly batting by the South Africans, they handed it to India's best pace bowling attack in conditions which heavily favoured them. It is good that the Indian team and pace attack got bought down to earth.

Make no mistake, don't let some badniyat Indians downplay this loss. Regardless of whether SA were playing at home or not, this is an upset because this SA is nothing like the teams of the past and the world number one ranked Indian team was heavily favoured to steam roll this SA team this time

I don’t see folks downplaying it. It’s a loss that could also lead to a series loss as well. So in that context it’s crucial as we probably won’t get another good opportunity to defeat SA in their home any time soon.

On the other hand, it’s pleasing to know that India is such a strong side that losing to SA is now an upset. Trust me, I’ve watched cricket in the 90s. As an Indian fan, EVERY overseas tour was painful, including ones to WI and SL, forget SA / Australia. Tours to England were probably the only bearable ones.

They need to rotate bowlers.. otherwise this injuries will keep happening..

It was inevitable South Africa would make it 1-1. Now at home with a psychological advantage they will win this series.

Nortje (avg 28) isn't better than Rabada (avg 22) , Ngidi (22) and he has made no difference in Tests against India.

As I said, it's a two way street.
