What's new

South Africa (287 all out) beat India (283 all out) by 4 runs at Newlands to win ODI series 3-0

Amazing performance from Deepak Chahar. He got an excellent 69 in Sri Lanka series too with Bhuvi in a pressure run chase.

This looks like that aane do series where they were pumped up after avoiding a clean sweep. :91:

If Ipl boys cannot win against this attack, they should stop playing intl cricket. SA bowlers are literally gifting them the game.

Really not sure what is worse.
South Africa's bowling or India struggling to chase down South Africa's total.....

SA bowlers have tried their best to give a late Christmas present but India just dont want to win this

Both Jayant and Yuzi are embarassment as cricketers.

Yuzi is worst of all.

These guys play 100s of matches in IPL every year but still can't handle any pressure situation in international cricket. #ThanksToIPL :inti

Should have played the back up guys. Atleast could have got an asterisk out of this series

Country of India ko doob ke mar jana chahiye for being whitewashed against this SA team

SA beat Aus 3-0 at home in ODIs, lost 1-2 to Pakistan, and 3-0 win vs India in their last 3 home series

That was a terrible ending for India, Chahar threw it away and the rest can't even hold a bat :(

SA beat Aus 3-0 at home in ODIs, lost 1-2 to Pakistan, and 3-0 win vs India in their last 3 home series

Does this mean Pakistan is better than both India and Australia in South Africa? I am asking this because that's the logic some fans here used to prove that India will beat NZ in Australia. :inti

Chahal is such a loser, should not be anywhere near any sports team, let alone an International sports team.

Rishabh pant too must be applauded for dropping two catches and trying to hit the ball out of Capetown first ball

2018 tour against a stronger SA side

lost tests 2-1
won the ODIs 5-1
won the T20Is 2-1

That was much better performance under Kohli

I have seen this so many times, tail enders saving India, but today even they could not get them over the line. Alot of work to do, but just arrange a series on the flat roads at home and the confidience will be back.

Correct, they didn’t have Steyn, ABD, Kallis, Faf, and Smith.

Well for starters magala was ridiculed and rightly so for being a z list bowler when pak played SA , all of a sudden doesn’t look to bad, not to mention no Rabada no Nortje etc

but but but India defeated Australia in Gabba, India defeated Gabba, India gabba, gabba.....

:)))

Congratulations to South Africa.

A bruising tour for India, the inquests will inevitably begin.

Somebody should do a research and look at stats. When Rahul Dravid was our captain, his team set a record of chasing 16 matches in a row chasing targets. Most of those matches had Yuvi, Raina and Dhoni in the middle order. This pyjama league has failed to produce even one quality finisher for India. And fans can still be seen comparing average cricketers like Pandya and Pant with peak Yuvi, Raina and Dhoni lol. Those guys used to chase targets for fun during those days. These guys can't build or plan a chase. Watching 100s of IPL games every year has really made some fans weak from the top. :inti

One poster the other day suggested Sehwag should feel humbled to have been compared with Pant :))

As I said previously ipl has given false confidence to these flat track bullies , KL Rahul most expensive player in this season ipl so far, I heard the owner say he was picked for his leadership…

South Africa overcame a late cameo from Deepak Chahar to complete a hat-trick of wins with a four-run victory in Cape Town to seal a 3-0 series whitewash against India.

A valiant half-century from Deepak Chahar went in vain as India's tail collapsed under pressure in a tense run chase in Cape Town on Sunday, 23 January. When Chahar was dismissed, India needed 10 runs to win off 17 balls and had two wickets in hand. But South Africa sent back Jasprit Bumrah in the penultimate over and in the last over, with six needed off six balls, Yuzvendra Chahal's slog found the top edge and South Africa closed off the game with a nervy four-run victory.

India lost skipper KL Rahul early in the run chase with Lungi Ngidi finding the outside edge and first slip gobbling up the catch. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli, both of whom had appeared to be in good touch in the series, stitched together a vital stand that put India back on course in the run chase.

With South Africa’s quicks struggling to find the right line, Dhawan and Kohli cashed in with frequent boundaries. Just as the partnership was edging closer to triple figures, Andile Phehlukwayo struck with the big wicket of Dhawan, out looking to pull after the top edge found Quinton de Kock’s gloves.

South Africa were in for more luck when Rishabh Pant danced down the track and slogged one straight to the fielder to depart for a golden duck. The momentum had turned around with the two-wicket over, but Kohli and Shreyas Iyer brought calm to the run chase.

Kohli completed his second fifty in the series to warm applause from the crowd, but once again failed to convert, falling for the second time this series to Keshav Maharaj. The pressure soon eased when Suryakumar Yadav walked in and unfurled a flurry of attacking shots. Iyer, though, holed out off Sisanda Magal to dent India’s chase again. Soon, Suryakumar Yadav followed, trying to flick Dwaine Pretorius to the leg side and the leading edge taking the ball to mid-off.

Deepak Chahar revived India’s hopes with a brilliant cameo, slamming two sixes and five fours in his half-century that took India to the cusp of a win. The half-century stand with Bumrah ended when he was out caught off a slower ball from Ngidi. Things unfolded quickly afterwards with South Africa wrapping up the Indian tail to complete a close win.

Earlier in the day, India made four changes to their XI for the final ODI of the series and opted to bowl first in Cape Town. Deepak Chahar, one of the players who came into the XI for this game, struck in the third over with the wicket of Janneman Malan to break South Africa’s opening pair early.

Another breakthrough came India’s way early when KL Rahul’s pinpoint throw ran Temba Bavuma out in the seventh over to reduce South Africa to 34/2. Aiden Markram too could not quite get going with Chahar adding another wicket to his tally.

At 70/3, South Africa were not in an ideal position, but Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen rebuilt for the hosts. De Kock went on to script his 17th ODI hundred, going level with Jacques Kallis on ODI hundreds, while van der Dussen, who hadn’t been dismissed yet in the series, made a half-century.

South Africa were on course for another massive total, but India clawed their way back in once de Kock and van der Dussen were dismissed off successive overs. The scoring rate never quite picked up from there with India striking at regular intervals. David Miller’s 38-ball 39 and Dwaine Pretorius’ 20 helped the Proteas set 288, which eventually proved to be enough.

Cricket is a funny game. You only get respect after retirement. When such players are playing people take them for granted.

Indian cricket is back to where it was in winter of 1989.
After that
Sachin
Srinath
Ajay jadeja
Kambli
Kumble
Raju
Were added and team kind of did ok in 1990’s.
New blood is needed in this team.

I remember how srikanth’s team crumbled in nehru cup 89.

These guys are not fit to tie Sehwag's shoelaces. Those who have seen him play know it very well. :inti

Agree with each word. I was astonished once after reading that Mumbai Indians would defeat every side in the world in a T20 series

I never disrespected those guys even when they were playing because I had also seen the era before they came into Indian team. Ganguly made them and brought the best out of them. When I look at the current team and the kind of hype it gets in an era where most of the teams have declined I start to compare them with the team which Ganguly, Rahul and Dhoni led. The only thing that has improved is Indian fast bowling and that too mostly in tests. :inti

How many test centuries yuvaraj and dhoni combined, both of whom you think are much better than pant have outside Asia ?

I think for many reasons, Ganguly gets all the credit. It was under Azharuddin ppl like Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Ajay Jadeja, anil kumble and srinath flourished. Indian team from 96 world cup was always going upwards gradually, Azhar winning hero cup in 93, asia cup in 95 and titan cup i think as well + sf of 96 wc, eliminating strong pak team, and not losing a home test series as captain are credible achievements. But credit only goes to Ganguly.

Credit should only go to Ganguly. Those who have actually seen cricket before and after Ganguly became captain would agree with me. Before he became captain Indian team solely relied on Sachin. Everything changed after he became captain. He created other match winners and took the load off Sachin's shoulders. :inti

India should have won with ngidi pheku pretorious and magala trundling away at 125kph.

This. I usually speak highly of RSA but this bowling line up is hands down the weakest I've seen in South Africa's history. Even Maharaj is more I'd a containing bowler and a test specialist.

To lose 3-0 against this attack is quite pathetic.

India's head coach Rahul Dravid on Sunday admitted that his team didn't play "smart cricket at crucial times" but backed the beleaguered KL Rahul to get better as a leader in coming days. India lost both the Test and ODI series in what turned out to be a disastrous tour of South Africa despite a bright start in the opening Test at Centurion, which the team won comprehensively.

"He did a good job. It's not easy to end on wrong side of the result," Dravid said when asked how he found Rahul as a leader, having lost all four games that he captained on tour. "He is just starting out and I think he did a very decent job. He will constantly get better as he captains," the head coach batted for the young skipper.

Dravid felt that "execution of skills" was lacking in all the three ODIs that India lost.

The series, according to Dravid, is a "good eye opener" but there is still a lot of time before the 2023 ODI World Cup, and India should be getting better in the near future.

"This is a good eye opener but we haven't played a lot of ODI cricket. We last played against England in March (after that second string side played against Lanka under Dravid's coaching). We will play a lot of white ball cricket before next year's World Cup." Dravid accepted that the Indian ODI team for the series didn't have the kind of balance required although he agreed that one can try and start looking at the template.

"The guys who play at 6, 7, and 8 weren't available for selection and when they come back, the side will have a slightly different look," he said.

He agreed that till the 30th over in both the chases, they were in the game before some of the batters played poor shots.

"We didn't play smart cricket at crucial times," he added.

How idiotically funny is this headline:

“South Africa overcome Deepak Chahar SCARE to make it 3-0 clean sweep•

I mean seriously?

They gave you a spanking of your life lifetime in the TESTS and now 3-0 in IDIs, and they were “scared”? LOLLL

Afridi was right - not only they lack class but they have (hatred filled) small hearts too.

Full credit to S/A for showing a great calibre of play and domination over this overhyped Indian side.

wow what a choke today by India :))) icing on the cake to a pathetic tour for the team.
