Abbas has bowled 42 % of his deliveries on 6-7 m length and bowling somewhere near his fastest too.

This is peak Abbas bowling

Saffers are winning it.. Don't have high hopes for these trundlers to do anything miraculously.
Why can’t we bowl Agha & Saim? I rather we take the risk and lose the game in a hurry, rather than this slow death!

Shan yes, but find me better alternatives of Babar & Riz. Bvuma survives ….
How many matches has Babar won out of his 55 and how many Rizwan has won out of his 35?? What value these two are adding to the team despite having such a long career? It's a shame that Saud has made his test debut at the age of 27, Kamran Ghulam & Salman Agha @ 29. Finding alternatives and introducing them at right time is the job of PCB but that doesn't mean that non-performing players should get free ride for years & years without accountability. I don't think if Shan, Babar & Rizwan has won more than 1 or 2 matches in their whole career

Naseem bowling is so one dimensional, Khurum was bowling with more variety and had few close ones. If Shan had any guile he would try a spinner and surprise SA, as they play pacers more comfortably.

Abbas looked disappointed at that Naseem effort as if he would have caught it had that been him lol

Naseem doesn't have any variety other than outswing

Abbas on balls projected to hit the stumps in Tests
Balls: 557
Wickets: 34
Avg: 6.17
SR: 16.3
Dot%: 81.8
I saw this interesting stat on cricbuzz. He got two wickets lbw yesterday as well.

He should do it more often as he can't get those edges due to his thunderbolt pace.
He should bowl at stump more often.

Markram played too slowly .

These types of target one batters has to Play fast .

Saffers have to hit the other bowlers. Variable bounce and seam movement and extreme accuracy from Abbas. No chance of doing anything consistently if Abbas keeps this up from this end.

The problem is that Abbas has bowled a long spell and will be tiring soon, if not now. Which will affect his consistency even if he bends his back and bowls a few extra.

One of the other bowlers needs to start getting breakthroughs from the other end.

Pakistan have made so many mistakes in this game and yet here we are still with half a chance on the final day!

Jamal has to replace him from this end. It seems a pretty benign surface from the other end.

As @Rana noted, Jansen found success when he switched ends.

More hope for Pakistan now that Markram's gone but the SA tail is also pretty strong.
They might be able to chase the balance like this themselves.

Feel like South Africa could’ve tried to disrupt his length a bit more by coming down the wicket. Difficult with the variable bounce though I guess

It's too easy with Abbas tiring and no discipline from other end

Too much happening from this end. Just watch how Markram played him. He was on the front foot throughout and still got a grubber.

hindsight is a luxury but Mir Hamza may have been better choice in place of Jamal.

Whats the point of a 4th seamer if you cant even trust him on such a track!
Hamza in place of Naseem, who is just one trick pony. Jamal can bowl better than Naseem if trusted and if Pakistan had more runs to play with, and of course can be valueble with batting.

Abbas bowled like 18 over in a row first innings (few overs were from the day before).
Maybe he can bowl another 2-3 overs now then come back after lunch?

Would be tempted to try out Saim Ayub for a couple overs.

Abbas bowling beautifully in the channel , scrambled seam hitting 129/130 then dropping down to 121. Lots of mistimed shots and edges. The other end has been an issue though. Too many loose deliveries. SAF can win just with 1’s and 2’s. Need to keep it tight pitch misbehaving. Time for spin

Khurram has all the tools just needs to improve his control a little bit and work on his fitness

Yep Amla is right - Pakistan hasn't kept Bedingham on strike as Bavuma has faced more deliveries in this partnership.

I know Abbass has done well but to be perfectly honest if it was me I would kick out the entire bowling attack of Naseem, Abbass & Khurram and find replacements

Now Bavuma is coming down to Abbas.
Literally the same tactic England used against Abbas in his last test match before this game, which resulted in him getting dropped.
He was basically found out by other teams and averaged 40+ in the previous 1 or 2 years before being dropped.
Just seems like teams have such short term memories.

Needs an inswinger but yes fitness and control is an issue
Inswinger is not a necessity. He has a wobble seam in ducker which just works fine. Steyn didn't have inswinger for most part of his career

I think spinner should come in now to bowl a few overs. runs coming in easy
