What's new

South Africa [311 & 373] beat Australia [255 & 107] by 322 runs to take 2-1 series lead

Warner looking to survive for now. Thought he would come out and look to play some shots.

Tough as nails bancroft....This was said when Anderson threw the ball at him and he did not flinch. Also was head butted but nothing.Have a feeling he is going to score big here.

SA with their own version of ball tampering by hitting Bancroft on the tape.

One of those tests , where off field incidents are way more interesting. Pitch looking docile and surprisingly SA looks flat when Australia are there for the taking.

Seems like no one is interested in this match anymore lol.

So if Bancroft and Smith chase this target with magnificent hundreds will they be redeemed??

Bancroft is starting to look like a test match player now. Has the temperament, just needs to get 1 or 2 big scores .

There is something poetic about Warner absolutely burning Bancroft again this match.

They will be cursing themselves for doing ball tampering then.Hope they chase it.It will be some sort of redemption.
Its been all bad for Aussies in this series.I think lady luck will smile upon them now.

What if Smith and Warner play masterclass today and chase the total?

I hope they atleast take the game closer and hit their respective hundreds, particularly, Mr. Steven Smith, that will make the crowd and us also awake.

Regardless of sandpaper gate, Australia were never going to chase anything over 250 in 4th innings versus Rabada and Mahraj.

Smith dismissed nearly the same way as the first innings ! Gets booed off.

Might be over tonight. Was always going to be near impossible for Australia to get anything positive out of this game after Sandpapergate. They will be mentally all over the place and wanting to get off the strip.

Greatest test batsman ever ... doing well in South Africa ...7 monumental runs

Hope Smithy recovers his form for IPL.
Unlike Aussie public, We Rajasthan Royals fans don't care about his on field activities as long as he keeps on winning us matches.

I may be crossing the line here, but I have no sympathies for them. Enjoying their humiliation.

:))) 7 down already.
Never in my cricket viewing experience, I have seen Australian batsmen look so despondent ane demoralized. It's as if they don't even want to play anymore.

Paine running people out now, in a rush to do the captain's interview after the game

This is a side that's lost it's head and is looking down the barrel for the near future. Looks to me the players just wanna fly home and forget about the series already. Who knew it would turn this bad for Australia, and so quickly.

Smith and co have dug their own grave.

This Auses meltdown is similar to what happen to Pakistan back in 2010 after fixing saga. Players who were doing it in both cases were surprised by reaction from the cricketing world...Smith and Warner were not expecting such a strong reaction from the CA and public back home. This may have lasting effect on Auses Cricketing Culture, win by hook or crook mentality will take a toll. I still feel the real architect was Lehman, he is a shroud guy, some how he gets away with this...Lets see how it unfolds!!

MORNE MORKEL came agonisingly close to his first ever 10-wicket haul as he spearheaded the Standard Bank Proteas to their second successive four-day victory over Australia at PPC Newlands on Sunday.

He took 5/23, including two wickets off successive balls, to go with his 4/87 in the first innings to give him a career-best 9/110 in the match. It was the first time he had taken 9 wickets in a Test match. He was named Sunfoil Man of the Match.

He was instrumental in Australia’s second innings collapse that saw them lose all 10 wickets for 50 runs after an opening stand of 57 between David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

The Australians had been set an improbable world record of 430 for victory following second innings half-centuries by Quinton de Kock (65 off 97 balls, 8 fours and a six) and Vernon Philander 952 not out off 79 balls, 6 fours and a six). It meant that the Proteas followed their 199 for the last four wickets in the previous Test in Port Elizabeth with 173 for the last 5 wickets this time out.

The Proteas margin of victory of 322 runs was their second largest in terms of runs margin being beaten only by the 323-runs margin in the last pre-unity series in 1970.

The Australia collapse was started by a direct hit run out by Faf du Plessis which saw the bowlers receive excellent back-up in the field. AB de Villiers and Aiden Markram both took superb catches close to the wicket while Temba Bavuma was also responsible for a run out.

While Morkel deserved the bowling plaudits there was also a fine contribution from Keshav Maharaj who, like Morkel, stood on the brink of a hat trick at one stage.

The Proteas now head to the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium for the final Sunfoil Test of the series with a 2-1 lead and the chance to score their first home series victory over Australia since unity.

Shout out to Elgar, champion fighter. MOM. Morne had a good Test, as a third/fourth seamer he is quality.
SA's pace attack is really something else, pity for retirements and injuries.

Off field issues have dominated this series which unfortunate.

It will be interesting to see how the Aussie pace attack does minus the ball tampering. They look pretty poor in comparison to the South African pace attack

Congrats to Saffers, Aus has hit a low point, but knowing their sporting culture they would be up in no time.

Finally an end to the most miserable series Smith could have seen over his entire career. From being dominant in India, dominant in Ashes to now this, it is fair to say that his real test of character will be when he gets back to work after the ban is over and whether he could continue batting to the same level he has been in last 4 years.

As a leader of the team, his legacy is done and dusted now due to this incident and he would go down as arguably one of the worst Australian leader in the game.

AUS lost 10 wickets in a session, that was so un-australian performance today .. may be second worst after 47 all-out in SA :smith
