What's new

South Africa [335 & 258] beat India [307 & 151] by 135 runs to win series & take 2-0 series lead

The Cape Town pitch was flat, but both teams batted on it. You're not out scoring Australia in those. As for Steyn's injury, well Ryan Harris was bowling with one leg. Class bowler. Australia deserved to win, no excuses from me. We played a strong team as well.

In any case I want a low scoring series this time around. If one team gets dismissed for 220 in it's first innings the other around 270 excellent, game on. It becomes an innings shootout from there.

Well in any case South Africa has beaten Aussies 3 times in a row at their own backyard 2008/2012/2016, so Proteas shall have confidence and above all "fire-power" to expose this Ashes Heroes side.

History will change, Proteas to defeat Steven Smith 3-1 in Test Series. Proteas will be ranked number 1 by March end.

Great knock Rohit bhai.

Congrats on playing the 3rd test.

Seeing the post match press conference from chump i am now feeling very happy that sharmaji ka ladka played that knock because i really am praying for 3-0 here and a hopefully golden ducks for both, would be a shame if him or chump misses out on the media sh!tstorm when the score line reads 3-0.

Standard Bank Proteas captain, Faf du Plessis, has praised the resilient character of his team in the series-clinching 135-run win against India in the second Sunfoil Test match at SuperSport Park on Tuesday. The Proteas hold an unassailable 2-0 lead with the final match to be played at Bidvest Wanderers starting on January 24th.

Du Plessis says the never-say-die attitude from his players in difficult conditions was particularly pleasing, along with the collective team effort from both the batsmen and bowlers and in the field.

“ It’s extremely special,” he said of the win. “ The previous game at Newlands was fast and exciting, this was the complete opposite. It was a game of grinding, a lot of hard work and it needed you to push yourself for longer and longer. That is what makes this Test match special.

“ I take a lot of pleasure in winning games like this,” he added. “Where the team needs a lot of heart, character and fight to make sure they get across the line. Yes, the conditions were not in our favour, but the conditions were there and we still needed to win. I thought we did that brilliantly, there were times where India put us under pressure, and every single time we responded with huge character. This is an extremely special Test match, and to be 2-0 up in the series gives us a happy feeling.

Lungi Ngidi put in an exceptional performance on debut with Man of the Match figures of 7/90, a performance which has given an exciting glimpse of the future of fast bowling in South Africa. The captain says he was immensely impressed by the 21-year-old’s maturity in a high-pressure environment, especially his pace and control which gave the impression of a youngster who has been playing Test match cricket long before his time.

“ It speaks volumes of his maturity,” he said of Ngidi. “ When you see guys coming into the team, from my side it’s important to make them feel like they belong, when you do that you get the best out of their performances. But for them to perform it means they have mature heads on their shoulders, they don’t see the occasion as being too big, they see it as another game where they can perform. I never sensed any nerves from Lungi, he was calm and just wanted to bowl.”

The Proteas will have a break for the rest of the week and will resume preparations for the third Test match on Monday, January 22. Details of the training and media schedule will be advised shortly.

I dont think this wicket suited us as much as is claimed.

Still should hav won here.

Yeah just because it didn't dart around like the first game and spun a bit doesn't mean wicket was flat. And there were sign of seam movement from early on, saw Morkel moving in quite a few deliveries.

And it was almost impossible to bat in the last inning with uneven bounce. But it's typical cliche when Kohli scores it must be the wicket . More than half of these people didn't even see the single delivery being bowled.

Lol Kohli himself said in the press conference that this was like conditions Indians have grown up in

The Saffer players said same and so did Indian bowlers. Most commentators did so

Surely not ALL of them are making it up

Because Faf/ SA wanted very quick wicket while this wicket was different so you would have more people talking/complaining about it.

Lot of people don't understand the definition of "flat" wicket where there is nothing for the bowlers. When in fact there were things happening all-around. You would know had you seen the game rather than relying on "experts" on here.

Nah, I don't know. Here is a fun fact (I could be wrong though), South Africa has never beaten an Ashes winning team (in the same calendar year).
We won away in Australia and England 2008, but it wasn't an Ashes year.
England won the Ashes in the winter of 2009, toured SA in December. We were considered as favourites, drew the four match series 1-1.

Won away in both countries 2012, again not an Ashes year. Johnson inspired Australia to a 5-0 drubbing in 2013/14 season. They came to SA in March (same summer technically) and won.

Whoever wins the Ashes is guaranteed not to lose in SA in the same calendar year/season.

It was an Indian-style wicket. That does not make it flat.

Indian-style wicket doesn't offer movement to the pacers.

What movement, lol? There was no help for the pacers like everyone, including the players, is saying. Philander would have mauled India if there was movement but he was comparatively ineffective here because he does not have the pace of Rabada, Morkel or the new guy.

You really haven't watched the game, have you?

Lol, I'm not the one voicing an opinion which is completely the opposite of what the entire cricketing world is saying. Read some of the match reports, analysis on the game by people who clearly did watch the entire game because they were paid to.

Then why bother watching the game?

Funny how no other player from either side has crossed the three figure so far in 8 innings while one payer gets 150 but he only did that because it was flat Indian wicket. If that was the case, why no one else scored those runs?

Doesn't even matter Bhumrah was making the ball dance around in 3rd inning when no one but AB looked remotely comfortable. Dorsn't even matter ball started keeping low right from the 3rd over in the 4th inning. But wicket was flat as long as Kohli was on the screen.

As usual every man and his dog giving out the opinion, despite having no clue of how the play went on on actual screen.

Watch it. Just analyze proceedings in an intelligent manner like everyone else is doing.

Bilal7, don't kick a man when he's already down. Ye bhai Virat Kohli see zyada frustrated lag raha hai.

Wicket wasn't flat, but it was far more conducive to Indian game plans than South Africa. Faf wants to play four pacers and blast India out, something which he's doing no matter the pitch conditions.

BTW is Pujara run out is legal? bails didn't dislodged from middle stump when he make in to the crease.

Everyone except this one guy sees it. Height of delusion.

Watch the game before ever commenting..

I did watch the game. In fact, the longer you continue this last stand, the more it seems like YOU were the one who did watch a single minute of this test and seeing the scorecards and name of the venue made you assume it was a normal Centurion pitch when it was anything but.

Well played by Saffers, hardly anytime of the series did we look we were in control, looked easy for South Africa.

You didn’t otherwise it wouldn’t take you these many posts to respond in a straight manner. Without sounding rude, I could care less what anyone makes of the pitch but one would look silly if they keep commenting on something they didn’t even see.
