South Africa (80/4) defeat Srilanka (77/10) by 6 wickets in a low scoring match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

SL shouldn't lose review for that. The wide was reversed. They should get to retain.

Horrible outfield . The ball is taking chunks off of it on the bounce to the keeper.

Pitch has extreme uneven bounce.

Pathetic outfield.

Good bowling and pressure on the Lankans to score quickly.

Sri Lanka should have gone for a 140-ish total here rather than crashing this hard.
Some of the bounce in the outfield makes it look like they're playing on a golf course converted to a cricket pitch haha

If that's going to be conditions in Ind v Pak game. Pakistan has to play 4 pacers
Definitely but who. Shaheen amir Haris. I would personally go with Nasim as 4th as he is more of a test bowler who can get some more out of such pitch than Abbas who is is more t20 bowler with variations etc. You just need to bowl good seam and line on this pitch. Basically test match bowling. Even Mohammad Abbas would be handful here. Or Muhammad Ali.

Uff that should have been taken

The ball is keeping so low at times, keeper and slips probably need to take one step up

For one of the greatest bowlers in the sport, Steyn is an exceptionally unassuming guy.

India vs Bangladesh warm up match was played at the same ground where India score 180 odd runs .

So the outfield is sod taht was installed on sand. Still lush green and again you guys are. Eing extra critical. There was just sand here 5 months ago and nothing else!. So just be a bit more generous. Them even pulling this off is actually amazing.

Pak has been having unfinished under construction stadiums for 5 plus or even 10 yrs and still unfinished. And these guys here have built a stadium in damn 5 months!! So credit for that. Hats off to that-- pitches will get better for the next games.. batsmen need to stop whining and get on with it.

It's a world cup haha. Not some Mickey Mouse tournament.
5 months ago, yes good quick work, but should have been done earlier if they knew they were hosting the WC?

It's a difficulty pitch to bat on. If bowlers persist with test match length, then you are forcing the batters hand.

Mathews & Shanaka are bowling well on this pitch.

To be fair. WC's these days are pretty Mickey Mouse.
Every year there's something. Totally diminishes the excitement.

If i rank T20 tournaments

1) League cricket
2) Bilaterals
3) World T20

That is how the standard . World T20 standard is horrible.

Unpopular opinion, but I dont actaully mind this baseball comentator loll

wow 45 runs 10 overs 9.4 overs 33 runs (minus those 2 sixes)

SA so far 1 four 2 sixes

SL 3 fours 3 sixes

So it is easier to hit sixes here than four.

This pitch makes average balls look better. So literally any team can beat any team (including associate) on this pitch.

Not an excuse. The organizers knew they were hosting an WC for years now.

SA sucks at chasing and Sri lanka suck at batting in general. The pitch isn't that bad that 70 is par lol

Probably Abrar / Imad will be more effective in NY than Shadab for sure

After all babar and rizwan might thrive on these kinds of wickets.
Rooting for their 40 balls 50.

For sure. They are champions of 150-160 scores. They have the composure, technique and class to deliver these totals.

It makes sense because it's pacer friendly. But we would have a really long tail, which would leave our batting extra vulnerable. Its a gamble
Imad at 7, Shaheen at 8 and Naseem at 9. I don't think that's a long tail. Regulation stuff really. I will take my chances with an extra seamer. Specially considering the bad form of Shadab and the quality of the seamers we have at our disposal.

Hopefully this puts an end to the “balance between bat and ball” brigade..

South Africa beat Sri Lanka as impressive bowling display lights up New York

South Africa bowlers shine in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 win over Sri Lanka at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

A bowling masterclass from South Africa lit up New York as wickets tumbled in the first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 game to be held in the city.

The brilliance of Ottneil Baartman and Anrich Nortje ripped Sri Lanka apart in New York, with Baartman taking a wicket with his very first ball and conceding just nine runs from his four overs, and Nortje posting extraordinary figures of 4/7 from 4 overs.

And while the chase of 78 was far from straightforward for South Africa, it was the Proteas who eased to victory and got their campaign off to a winning start.

Faced with a target of just 78 to win their tournament opener, South Africa inched their way to victory in Nassau County as the Sri Lanka bowlers ensured the first-ever T20 World Cup match in New York was a low-scoring thriller.

Quinton de Kock anchored the chase with 20 from 27 balls – a knock that illustrated just how tough it was for even experienced international stars to score on a surface that offered plenty for quicks and spinners alike.

Nuwan Thushara and Dasun Shanaka made the powerplay breakthroughs that Sri Lanka desperately required after reaching just 77 all out in their first innings.

And a double strike from Wanindu Hasaranga to remove De Kock and Tristan Stubbs (13 from 28) gave the Lankans hope.

But 78 was never likely to be enough to deny South Africa’s powerful batting lineup, and the double-act of Heinrich Klaasen (19* from 22) and David Miller (6* from 6) completed the job with 3.4 overs and six wickets to spare.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first, but found the going tough early on, as South Africa’s bowlers extracted extra bounce from the wicket.

Baartman struck with his first ball to remove Pathum Nissanka, before Keshav Maharaj stepped in with two wickets in an over to leave the innings in tatters.

Keshav Maharaj made two quick breakthroughs in an over to dent Sri Lanka.

The introduction of Nortje as the fifth bowler saw no let-up for the Lankan batters, as the Protea pacer returned phenomenal figures of 4/7 in his four overs, ending any lingering hopes of a first-innings recovery.

Kagiso Rabada took 2/21, while Baartman ended with an excellent economy of 2.25 in his four overs.

Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis and Angelo Mathews were the only batters to reach double figures in a hugely disappointing display from Sri Lanka, whose innings ended with a run-out as they posted just 77 in 19.1 overs.

Sri Lanka will look to bounce back when they resume their Group D campaign against Bangladesh in Dallas on Saturday 8 June, while South Africa can consolidate their position in the qualification spots when they play the Netherlands in New York on the same day.
