South Africa defeat Pakistan by 6 wkts to win the 1st Test & take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series

Losing by 8/9 wickets on a bowling-friendly pitch is a proper thrashing.

Lol what? Their pitches and conditions offer the most for the kookaburra in the world. Especially in the Highveldt.
 
Considering SA is winning this easily, would Pakistan still bowl Amir for the remaining overs or would he be protected in cotton wool and asked to take rest till match gets over and let the gadha mazdoori be done by other bowlers? Like it happened for UAE matches.

His line and length has been better than the other two but he’s bowling in late 120kphs. At least 5kph lesser than them.

I have actually been quite impressed with his trundling. Reminded of Ganguly, Chris Harris and Mark Ealham.
 
Hope SA drops Maharaj and not the young fast bowler in the next game with Philander coming back. They must play with 4 seamers in Cape Town.
 
This is next level thrashing. I expected much closer encounter. But it’s turning into an one sided affair.
 
Pakistan missing swing bowler like Mohammed Abbas and Mir Hamza. One is injured and the other was not even selected for the tour :facepalm: Huge blunder by Pakistan.
 
I'm not convinced by this Afridi kid. He's too young, comes across as cocky, and seems like a confidence type player more suited for the shorter formats.
 
I understand that we lack talent and class but the way our team management uses the available resources is just plain horrid. Its Ok for them to play asad shafiq even after two years of consistent failures , 8 zeros included. But hard for them to use the alternatives in the squad like mohammad rizwan. Selectors too are hell bent on playing him instead of giving chances to guys like saas and saud. The last two series they selected hafeez , opened with him instead of azhar ali who could have been more useful at opening position. Selectors find chances to select the guys who are more likely to fail than not.
 
Inclusion of Abbas will definitely liven up our bowling. Other pacers will also draw from him energy

He does. Afridi is a bit quicker but isn’t consistent with his bouncers.

Also, Hasan gives everything. Shame that people want him dropped.
 
Lack of speed of Pakistani bowlers being discussed. Slowest SA bowler is faster than fastest Pakistani bowler.
 
The most toothless fourth innings bowling performance in 2018.
 
Get the wicket of amla before they finish, he shouldn't come back to form.
 
TBH I find nothing special in Shaheen Afridi either. I know he is only 18 but we were used to seeing much better young fast bowlers coming from Pakistan. Amir for example was much better when he made his debut than Shaheen.

I like the way he goes about his business. Looks like an honest trier. Not sure why he irks certain people.

Needs to bulk up and increase his pace. Would be more effective.
 
Proper phainta, after competing well the past two days. Fakhar's drop and Joel Wilson's gift took the wind out of this Pakistan team, and as mentally weak as this bunch is, they proceeded to hand over the game to the Saffers.

A decent test match nonetheless. Exceeded expectations. Now to expect the ruthless thrashings in the coming tests
 
Free wicket. Some one some day will say Yasir averaged 30 against SA in this game so he isn’t that bad. That’s how stats lie.

That's a big jump from U19s to international Cricket. It is for the same reason that Nagarkotti and Mavi will be made to play many more seasons of domestic Cricket before they can be considered for internationals.

This is one of the worst SA batting line up we have faced but unfortunately we have an even worst line up

This performance is actually better than what I was expecting. They have already out-performed Misbah's team from 2013, which was busy getting shot out for sub-par scores throughout the series mashaAllah.
 
These wickets mean nothing. They have simply switched off because the game is done and dusted.
 
If this was Pakistan right now, everybody would be panicking and these 12 runs would feel like 120.
 
Lol ...all pakistan wanted was one more wicket early on and SAF would have choked... Too little too late
 
If it was pak we would have never chased down this total and if we did, it would be with 8-9 wickets down

That team faced a peak Steyn, de Villiers and Amla. The 2013 South African team would whitewash this South African side, so I am not sure how much heart we can take from this performance.

This team would have hardly done better against that side.
