What's new

South Africa end Day 2 of the 2nd Test at 382/6 as Pakistan bowlers toil with little success

Spinner was supposed to bowl from one end and keep pacers fresh. But pacers are outbowling the spinner. A spinner the likes of whom the Saffers have never faced in their lives according to captain Fantastic.

Sigh!

It has been still a mystery to me that how this side performed well in England! They were whitewashed in Australia ,NewZealand in their last tour without any rearguard action and the result seems to be the same here in SA.They lost home series to NewZealand,Srilanka! This will be the 14th test loss in last 21 tests. If some dramatic and radical changes don't take place,Pakistan cricket seems to be in jeopardy like that of West Indies.

Misbah and Younis. With them gone, we are looking down the barrel.

lot of Beards in those all white dressed fans - Amla fan club i suppose .
Abbas has bowled better today but 324/5 on this deck is not good bowling i am afraid .

Shaheen has been really impatient giving away loads of runs. But to be fair to him he has also bowled the most number of difficult bowls.

Selection blunder is also costing us big time. Needed a fourth seamer.

Some tough luck as well.

Shaheen is a gem, he may cost us some runs but him and Hasan are the way to go tbh.

I still feel Shaheen isn’t 100% ready for test. Yeah he’s been our best bowler this series but that isn’t really saying much considering our options.

He is still very impressive tho and Pakistan NEED to monitor his workload for the future.

The Pacers have been bowled into the ground.

Missing Hassan as well.

All the SA bowlers were a solid 10-15 KPH faster than our bowlers which is why their short bowling was so threatening.

Can’t help but think what someone like Musa would do here. Even someone like Ehsan Adil would be a handful in these conditions.

78 overs bowled by 3 pacers out of 100 in this innings . Yasir despite being hyped by Sarfaraz before start of series does not get a extensive bowl with just 15 overs by him today .

Lol South Africa will absolutely destroy a few careers on this tour. I don't see mentally weak lambs surviving this mauling, and the ones to come after this :))

Abbas trundling at 120 KPH. I knew it the first time I saw him, a player who bowls in the early 120s can never be successful. Even Asif was faster than this.

Abbas looks like a good bowler to me, pity Pakistan didn't have enough runs to exact scoreboard pressure. Will be a menace in Jo'burg

The last time I remember us grinding out a draw in a Test was in Dubai in 2014 vs New Zealand when we batted out 67 overs.

Pakistan cannot draw this unless it rains for 2 days. 3 days left in the game. Its too much.

Dropped Faf . If you were say 170 ahead on this pitch , would you like to risk your bowlers getting hit on fingers / hand ?
Trying to make a case for declaration after 5 overs :)

Isn't Azhar supposed to famous for the kind of stuff? I think we need to start positively. Open with Azhar and Imam, let them grind it out. Send in Shan next with Babar at 4.

Sarfraz looks mentally tired. Very lazy keeping.

Ball is doing a lot and beating both edges. Pakistan has to just take their chances.

Long time no see! Good to see you're still posting.

I fully agree, you should check the day 1 match thread where people were second guessing Faf's decision to bowl first.

Good to be back-ish, unfortunately I can only post during our home season.

Abbas is really unlucky. Catch decision overturned, Bavuma lbw overturned and now Sarfraz drops a sitter.

last time i checked neither Faf nor DeKock is a bowler.

Do u think Sarfaraz will resign from test captaincy after this tour? I am pretty certain he will.

Does that kind of stuff happen in Pakistan? Players never retire or give up captaincy, I don't remember anything like that happening in a really long time.

Congratulations to Faf.
Pakistan handing out form to out of form players namely Amla ,Faf,DeKock.

Azhar has aged badly especially after misbah and younis. He is a shadow of himself. He might grind out an occassional 50 but he will be a burden on the team more often than not. His reflexes seem to be at an all time low. And he isnt getting any younger :(

PCB doesnt even have basic cricket understanding and you expect them to know about cloud seeding :msd

I am certain some PCB officials are members of our forum to gain gupt gyaan :inzi

Come on Faf , declare let lose the dogs of war :AR15firin

He will do it to save his LOI captaincy. Similar to what hafeez did when he retired from tests. He wanted to save his LOI place.

With the pitch deteriorating, Pakistan might roll out under 100 considering the poor state of their batting.

Madplayer I have noticed that once a particular decision doesn't go Pakistan's way early in the innings or a catch is dropped or some sort of chance goes begging, we lose our entire momentum and the body language becomes super negative. The decision not going our way today seems to be the particular point today.

That’s because the bowlers feel that they will be unable to create any chances again.

What did he say?

Sorry went offline for a bit.
Quinton de cock’s blocked a ball which ballooned and almost fell onto the stumps (very close).
One of the commentators asked Ramiz what if had bounced and hit the stumps . Ramiz said immediately “ Soft signal will be out and we know what happens after that” ...

Exactly what i said earlier, it happened in the 1st game also after third umpire over ruled the on field soft signal. The entire bowling attack went flat after that and shoulders dropped. Alarming sign of how quickly these boys give up.

Pitch is tricky. Pacers, especially Amir have bowled well. Pakistani players need to get fitter though.

15 overs left in the day , i wonder what the team plans for Sunday are ?
344/5 [ lead 167 ]

South Africa lead by 174 runs. Imam to score 156 in chase.

Pitch has enough in it to trouble batsmen. Lack of pace allowed SA batsmen to make late adjustments most o the time

Pity AB had to betray his country for laugh and giggle cricket. Would have loved to see two years between him and QdK. Taking the game away from the opposition in a session would have been scintillating

Feel sorry for these boys now. Sarfraz might not play the next test. Innings defeat is an absolute certain right now.

Shaheen Afridi straightened his hair.

He had thick curly hair the last time I saw and now his hair is like Shahid Afridi's.

So this test match is definitely over, we have lost. Bowlers running in in this heat know that it is of no use since South Africa already have a lead of 170.

Losing Asif and Amir destroyed you guys. Steyn will retire in two years, probably Vern. That means losing Rabada and Ngidi would be devastating to South African cricket. These are once in a generation bowlers.
