South Africa end Day 2 of the 2nd Test at 382/6 as Pakistan bowlers toil with little success

I wouldn't want to play under a captain like Sarfraz. He is way too critical of every little things on the field and very vocal about it.
 
Bowlers bowling at rapid 130s. Wow

Slowly but surely South Africa are creeping with the lead. Just hundred more runs and they'll be set for an innings victory
 
Wonder if it was Sarfraz or Micky or both that wanted Yasir and Shafiq in for this test instead of Faheem and rizwan.

It’s an Instant Dismissal offence, like Misbah opening the Test bowling at Sydney with Yasir Shah.

I’d be sending out the team after Tea with the new captain in charge.

Stop hyping players who are not playing. They are not that great either.Selection is not the issue.Overall lack of talent is the issue.

Amir is bowling at 129 with no movement , what can captain and coach do.
 
You know your bowling department is in tatters when even hacks like Bavuma are allowed to score for fun.

Not hyping them.

Fact is this core team has been beaten in 13 out of the last 20 tests, and have also lost the last two tests.

With a consistently failing batting line up, there should be some changes.

And as for Yasir, I'm a big fan, but Faheem would have been more useful. His average of around 30 in first class cricket with the bat and 27 with the ball may have meant we would have scored a few more runs and possibly gotten a breakthrough or two with his bowling. He performed well in England.

Still look at that economy. Only 2.38 . He can hold one end and bowl all day at 130-135 kph and keep the run down. but they already have a metronome in Abbas. That's the problem. No genuine strike bowlers.
 
Resident experts need to understand one thing about South Africa, bowlers will always be in the game. Hence you take it session by session here (even an hour at a time), bowlers are allowed to bowl well and dominate. First session belonged to Pakistan, post lunch it's been all South Africa. The next session will decide the match and series. Faf is a gun captain, I believe we know our own conditions better than fly by night experts who've been watching SA cricket post the #1 ranking era.

The quicks have been totally overbowled due to the moronic decision to leave out Faheem Ashraf.

They have been bowled into the ground so that the team can carry that passenger Yasir Shah around South Africa as a specialist batsman.

I was in South Africa for the Australia series last March. I’ve been saying ever since “Four Quicks, Shadab in place of Yasir Shah”.
 
Just don’t get why they didn’t play faheem ashraf and shadab in place of shafiq and yasir. Batting is your weakest link and you decide to go with an extra bowler that being a spinner and a out of form batsman. Smh.

Agree. Picking Yasir was a foolish decision.
 
A yard pace is more needed here to extract something out of the pitch. Pakistan fast bowlers just put the ball hoping pitch would do some tricks. Once the sun starts beating down onus is on the bowler to extract something out of it.

Something to do with South Africa's horrible batting in Srilanka? They are always vulnerale against spin. But i gotta say Yasir shah's speeds are not suitable here. They have loads of time. You need to be a bit quicker here.

Then bowl him enough. If nothing else, he will give some rest to the pacers.
 
Playing a four men pace pronged attack on a decent deck dictated that SA bowl first when the wicket had some juice. Faf was vindicated taking 5 wickets before lunch and dismissing the opposition in two sessions. Makes no sense playing four quicks and not bowl them in ideal bowling conditions, no sense whatsoever.
 
Wahab Riaz kind of bowlers are needed to rattle this line up. Just fast, straight and at the throat of batsmen.
 
One thing is for sure that in South Africa. Pacers will have assistance from conditions and pitch. But you're not sure whether it is spin or not. So why gamble with playing Yasir?

Agreed ..one dimensional attack. Not able to get nasty bounce from pitch which is helpful.
 
Spinners need a mountain of runs to be effective here. Unless they happen to be world class Warne and Swann
 
Pak's best bet to pick wicket is Abbas only, as he is only one looking threatening on this wicket. but knowing sarfi baba he will remove him from attack only after 2-3 overs.

Team selection is fine, you are talking as if Fahim Ahsraf is second coming of Imran Khan.They need six batsmen.Yasir is far better than Shadab.

Rizwan has been in great form and he should have been picked over Asad.

This track is not suited for a bowler like Yasir and Faheem should have been picked over him for his all-round abilities and being able to be a threat at the same time as giving the other bowlers a rest (as Yasir is doing).
 
I think that now, whenever Pakistan bats, it will be just to book a place in the third test. The result of this test is pretty much a foregone conclusion, though I'd love to be proven wrong.

what mentality are you talking about? These are the best players available for selection.Dropping either Asad or Azhar means ending their careers. You just don't do that unless you have something better.

Talent level in general is the problem not the team selection.

This match is now over . 33 overs remain in the day & hosts would be around 400 by close . Would you like to declare at say 375 & have a shy for 10 overs today ?

How do you know if you have something better if you won't try anyone out?

What has Asad or even Azhar for that matter averaged in this series? Have they played any innings of note? Particularly Asad. It's not about ending their careers. It's about doing what's best for the team.

Your arguments have nothing to do with performance. Just simply stating they are the best does not make it true.
 
Abbas who was getting wickets for fun on dcile UAE tracks is looking harmless that is the bigger problem.Amir not able to do anything is the bigger problem.

This test is all but gone. The body language tells as much. An innings defeat is certain, now the margin of the innings defeat is the only question. Faf can declare now and still win the game, that's how bad things are at the moment.

Think this series should be the last we see of Asad Shafiq atleast.

New ball is bigger problem. One has to make better use of Kookaburra in SAF/AUS when new, but new ball skills of PAK pacers are almost finished.

It is not kindergarten where you can chop and change players as you wish. Those two were supposed to be successors of Younis and Misbah. They are in the team for decade and you are saying take them out and try somebody who is not exactly a prodigy or has some geat FC stats.He averages around 41 and you expect him to come and do better than these guys.

Players outside the team are not always better.Stop craving for changes just for the sake of change.
 
If this new ball don’t reach to Vernon, SAF will bat once and probably won’t lose 10 wickets. This was always on cards when a team is 5 down by first lunch.
 
There is still good carry here & enough in the deck to keep good pacers in business . This partnership is now close to 47 overs & i do not think there have been enough problems created by the bowlers .

Supposed to be but both have averaged in 30s since Younis and Misbah retired.

Azhar I give a break to because he was probably the best batsman in the team for quite a while before the others retired.

Shafiq I don't give a break to. He averages 38 despite playing tons of cricket in the UAE.

You want to keep losing tests because they were supposed to be successors of YK and Misbah? You want to keep making the wrong selections for the sake of it because "this isn't kindergarten"?

Shafiq has to get this series , if he fails he will go.I don't see anyone better than him sitting outside.
 
On this end there are lot of tricks happening on the pitch. Some darts back fast. Some takes off. Some keeps low.
 
Game being set up nicely for another pointless ton in a losing cause from Papa Shafiq to save his spot.
