Corbin Bosch's dream debut continued as he smashed his maiden Test half-century off 46 balls, setting a record for the highest score by a No.9 batter on debut. His efforts propelled South Africa to a 90-run first-innings lead. In response, Pakistan made significant progress in their second innings but lost three wickets, ending the day two runs behind and keeping South Africa slightly ahead in the contest.

The hosts, needing one more Test victory to secure a spot in the World Test Championship final, faced the threat of losing their grip on the match after collapsing from 178 for 4 to 213 for 8. However, Bosch's crucial partnerships—a 41-run stand with Kagiso Rabada and a 47-run last-wicket effort with Dane Paterson—helped South Africa establish a respectable lead. Pakistan's openers, Saim Ayub and Shan Masood, got off to a brisk start, adding 49 runs in under 11 overs. However, a flurry of three wickets for just 25 runs shifted the momentum again, capping off a day filled with excitement more than high-quality cricket.

200 runs target minimum to defend, jamal and agha are key both bat and ball. Jamal is best bowler and very under utilize by Shan in crunch situation.

If Pakistan somehow manages to secure a lead of 150 runs so it would be extremely challenging for South Africa to chase on the Centurion pitch where the ball has already started showing uneven bounce.

Big chance for Babar to prove himself and play his best knock if he can get a century here. Here's hoping he gets out of his slump but knowing Babar's tendency to get out extremely early on the next day, I am not feeling entirely optimistic.

Kamran failed badly I would say. Maybe he should stop doing the antics on the field and focus towards his batting

What an opportunity for King Babar to score match winning SENA double century today and silence his critics and reclaim his throne.

Looks like rain maybe around today and we may lose the overs.

I dont have much hopes from Babar. Saud has to be very cautious and make at least 50, with Rizwan and Agha scoring healthy 40s. 170+ should be competitive score.

I don't have much hope from Saud as well. Babar is already in pretty bad shape so not sure if he is gonna last 1st hour.

170+ won't be competitive. You gotta take Pakistan's bowling into account.

Saud needs to score a 100 followed by 50's from rizwan and Agha.

Gotta grind it till 1st session of day 4 atleast.

If Pakistan can't bat the entirety of day 3, then they should call it quits for test cricket

170 is literally nothing. We don't exactly have bumrah at our disposal. We're dealing with pacers who tap out in the 2nd session.

Why? He's our best test batter and is the only guy who scored on that minefield pitch?

If anything you back him to come good since his centuries are valuable. His 100 of 238 balls is exactly what Pakistan needs.

Pakistan should aim to just bat the entirety of day 3 and 1st session of day 4 and for that you need saud to enter survival mode.

No point in hacking and slashing to try to get a lead.

Pakistani pacers are useless for more then 2 sessions.

abbas shouldnt be given a chance to bowl, saim bowls better than him

pak will be all oout for 150 in the 1st session itself

Highly unlikely but desperately need a century stand between any of the remaining batsmen.

We had stronger bowling lineup in 2019 and couldn't get anywhere close to defending 180. Need 250+ target atleast

dont forget pak is the first asian team to whitewash south africa in odis which your team can only dream off.
This is the most impressive ODI series win in SA by an Asian team.

5-1 win vs a team with ABDV, Amla, Morkel, Du Plessis, DeKock, Rabada, Klassen etc.

As far as defeating depleted SA teams, did it last year with a bowling attack of Avesh, Mukesh, Arshdeep.

When they do resume moisture will offer Saffers plenty. This could be over rather quickly

Or King can display the highest form of technical batting and own the Centurion stage
Genuinely speaking, he kinda has to. This sa test will either be his resurgence or his final frontier in test cricket.

Game was delayed due to rain... This might continue the whole day

They are shwoing a match from 90s. Never heard of this match. SA beating Pakistan in Pakistan from an impossible position.

Not necessarily if a few 4’s are hit (if) the ball gets damp on the outfield or the stands and doesn’t swing or seam. It’s easier to hit through the line then. Plus fielders skid around. It favours the batters. Pak just need to bat time. The runs can come

without nortje coetze
calm down

and no qdk who quit.
It’s become tiresome hearing these excuses. Last India beat SA in SA ODI series, below was the SA bowling:

Coetze has 14 ODI games. Hes no world beater. SA best team was playing except Maharaj and Nortje but there are always a few players missing at any given point in time. Pakistan was without Fakhar and Wasim Junior.

Won't it will be more helpful for the bowlers with the pitch under covers and overhead conditions ?

Good that they did not waste time. Lunch taken early

True. India also fielded c team vs saffers though.

But yes great result for Pakistan.

Coetzee averages 23 in ODIs.

Coetzee averages 23 in ODIs.
In 14 ODI games. Too small a sample to acknowledge him a world beater! Wasim Junior also has an average of 25 in 20 games. Both are early in their careers.
Coetzee average in SA across 8 games is 30 and ER is 6.8 in ODIs btw so the World Cup games are lifting his stats up

Nortje averages 27 over 22 ODIs. Are you implying that's a better sample?

I don't understand your point here either. Are you saying Indian pitches are friendlier to fast bowlers than Saffer ms pitches?

He has only played 6 ODIs in SA and those were his first 6 ODIs

Thread is not about India and their wins... Talk about this match only

Point no1, Indians should stop wasting their time. They are right Pakistan plays and beats a lot of B sides, but specifically this SA side wasn’t a B side and the Aussie side in first 2 games. There are always 2 or 3 players missing from a team at any given point in time. It’s how this works.

Point 2, specifically Nortje and Maharaj were the notable misses as they have played meaningful games to know their caliber.

Point3, a player like Coetzee who’s played 14 OdI games is not a world beater by any means, they can be anything as they are still finding their feet. Even if their average is 8, it’s irrelevant as a stat in bigger picture.

That’s pretty low too! He can be anything at this point too. At least 50 games to call them established player. Have some standards

Sure. Then you certainly can't rate either Rauf or Naseem in the format either.

Rauf has played 45 ODIs, providing a meaningful sample size. It’s definitely still early days for Naseem. Even Pakistan's backups performed better than South Africa's. Abrar's backup, Sufiyan, and Rauf’s backup, Hasnain, both had decent outings.

It was a humiliation for South Africa, as even in the third ODI, Pakistan experimented with three bench players and still managed to beat them.

Rain has stopped but the outfield is not fit to start the game. WAit continues.

Worst time for rain to come the moisture will freshen up the pitch and South Africa just need two quick wickets and game is done

Good to see the sopper out in the field doing its job.. Rain to resume in half an hour

60 overs left in the day

Hopefully the umpires agree that The floodlights can operate and we get all 60 overs in

Update:

Play will get underway at 13:40 and there are 60 overs remaining in the day.

If the ground is little bit wet it will benefit Pakistan. As with wet ball it will be easier to bat as it won’t swing.

So they should try to push the ball towards those wet patches.

Hopefully rain stays away.Cowards seek the easy way out.

Zimbabar has to prove his selection. He must do well in this innings.

I have no hopes from that 4ft saud guy. He is awful against fast bowling.

Zimbabar rizwan and Salman should bail Pakistan out.

It's so gloomy here. Don't think we will get many overs here. Advantage SA
