It might get lost in the mitch mayhem but AB was magnificent in this test, his battle with johnson was great to watch.

He's clearly the best test bat in the world.

SA must think what is the point of Peterson and Mclaren.Dont make the cut at test cricket TBH.

Hold on to this, sir. It won't be yours for much longer.

it would be good for clarke to get some markers in... scare steyn by doing an anderson on "get ready for a broken .... arm"

Yeah. No other player in the world could do that against Johnson at the moment.

So let's look ahead since this Test is pretty much done and dusted. If Twatto is fit for Port Elizabeth, who makes way?

Twatto - gives a seam bowling option and variety to the attack, at the cost of weakening the batting

Doolan - took 2 amazing catches and scored 81 and 27. Looks solid at No3

Marsh - 148 in a very difficult situation and 40-odd and took good catches in the slips

Too long didn't read (TLDR) - Twatto strengthens the bowling attack, Doolan and Marsh strengthen the batting

Johnson bullied SA to submission.

SA are mentally shot.

Did not know SA had trouble facing short ball. Even English players could not handle the short pitch stuff.

When Johnson was bullying UV and Raina in the ODI series in India, I thought it was just Indian batsmen who cannot play short ball.

Now I feel bad for both UV and Raina. The so called good players of short balls also had no clue against Mitch.

No need for Watson who won't be fit anyway

I might get slandered for this from fellow Indians but I believe even Tendulkar during his peak era circa 1996-1998 would have struggled against johnson in this type of form!

Nopes. If ABDV can play him,i am sure SRT/Lara could do it as well.

i'd get watson in for doolan who can't dominate an attack like watson is capable of.

I'm realizing this now..

there's a genuine differance... those players like raina will struggle against even medium/fast pacers bowling short on SA pitches.... MJ is bowling 150k... like holding was saying PACE makes you do strange things.

Not really. Lara was always suspect against genuine pace and neither of them had AB's reflexes. AB is a freak of nature. I can't think of any other batsmen who could play this kind of bowling.

Peterson castled by Siddle :out

You miss I hit

Ponting at his peak.

Shame how Peterson got out, from what I'm reading, looked like he was fighting well.

Lara and SRT were both brilliant players of pace as well as spin bowling,Tendulkar even better than Lara in that respect.Every players has his own way of playing fast bowling and so does ABDV.To say he alone can play express hostile fast bowling is ridiculosly OTT.

I can just about make out susan boyle starting to belt out a tune :afridi

VVS would have probably handled(or survived) MJ's spell. He did very well against a very hostile debuting Lee (Who was owning all others in '99) and Pidge who banged him on the head once. VVS even handled Steyn, Morkel etc. well on a Durban greentop. This is speculation of course.

Want to see MJ vs Talunted Rohit. Talunted Rohit might take early retirement :afridi

Nohit is a good player of short bowling. He is a very good puller and hooker.

His problem is against the moving ball outside the off stump. Players like Nohit will struggle more against McGrath type bowlers.

Im not questioning SRT's ability to play fast bowling but Mitch is unlike any express bowler before him in that he is a slinging left armer who gets awkward bounce and these days quite accurate with his line/length. Even quality bats like Cook,KP,Amla,Smith, excellent players of fast bowling themselves, struggled against Mitch. Couple of those guys have played Akhtar and Lee with relative comfort. I still stand by what i said. AB is the exception. This is all hypothetical but I don't think Lara or SRT would have survived against tis kind of bowling.

Cook havent had to face much hostile fast bowling neither have Amla so they are not in that catagory.

If you watch the Ashes it was Siddle who got KP out on most ocassions and even KP isnt anywhere near SRT or Lara as a batsman..

Most of these batsmen dont have backfoot game to counter attack this bowling nor do they have the temperament to leave the balls and defend and get in line of the ball.

SRT and Lara would have survived this and and more. They were exceptional once in a lifetime batsmen and couple of notches above ABDV as batsmen.

Saffers get a taste of their own medicine finally - they have been out bowled completely and you don't see that often.

This match has set the cat among pigeons.Showed why ABDV is a nothc above the other SA batsmen.I always believed a couple of SA batsmen were overrated and ABDV and Kallis were the only real deals.

Often? Hasn't happened at all in years. Definitely not after Steyn became a permanent fixture in their Test team around 2007.

Philander :six
Nevertheless, If you watched KP, he was playing Johnson as well as AB did. It was cos no one would start a decent partnership that he couldn't score big. Very stupid to drop him
damn philtrundler showing his peers how to take it to the bowler...promote him ahead of duminy lol

They normally don't. There's a difference facing Jonno' throat balls and other bowlers' short balls.

Lee they played with ease, akhter was a beast, No batsmen liked facing him in tests, reason tendulkar got away was they rarly faced each other in tests, When they did akhter owned him, akhter was a freak a yard Quicker than Johnson and he got good bounce

The crowd for this 4th day has been really good the low turnout in the India series must've been a protest against Srinis bullying tactics

Viv Richards.

Game over. Congrats Aus well played. MJ does it again!

Morkel runs himself out rather than possibly face Jonno on the return of a spell

Now some people will realize the greatness of Kallis 3 in 1 player here and :facepalm that bits n pieces like McClaren is the replacement as per SA' coaching staff better play a pure batsman or bowler instead of him also Robbie "Lara" against Pakistan needs a boot what is his role rarely turns the ball better play a good quick may be Abbott

Akhtar got royally pwned by tendulkar in the 03 wc.

Can Seth Africa come back from this pummelling? Will certainly take some doing. No answer to MJ at all. Ashes all over again is the feeling I'm getting.
