Drinks SA 1/93

Amla and Prince consolidating.

Just an observation here:

South Africa have had a fairly difficult and public period of angst with their transformation policy. But it really is good to see Prince, Amla, Khan, Duminy and Ntini all in their side and all there totally on merit and performing. Great signs for South African cricket, it would have died if it stayed a white man's game.

The last census in South Africa in the 1990's showed the white population as 9%. Millions of white South Africans have left the country since black rule and the exodus continues and so it's important that people of colour keep the game alive in South Africa.

Ian chappell's wors have lot of jinxing power lol Every time he gets excited about Aussie's supremacy they just churn out mediocre performance like this.

Perhaps it's just a repeat of dead rubber syndrome, something they used to suffer from particularly badly during Mark Taylor's reign.

Hilfenhaus to Kallis, no run, Hit on the helmet again! They are giving the bumper barrage to Kallis. His first movement is to press the left foot across, then tries to go back and duck. Too late. The ball crashes into the helmet and pops up the slip cordon. he is also holding the bat high in the air when he ducks. Two men in the deep and he doesn't want to pull but is not leaving them well. Kallis has asked for a new helmet.

Kallis getting a work over here. His average is 54 nowi remember it was like 57 just a year or 2 ago. also 1 of those players suffering of playing 6 tests in a row versus aus i guess !

South Africa 192/2

Prince approaching a ton here!

Pointing not using the leggie! Very strange!

Duminy is awesome - I think he'll go a long, long way. Pure, natural talent and plenty of guts.

My favourite SA cricketer since Klusener.

Wow, that referral took so long, and he still gave him out... :O

Prince Ashwell 'gloves' one (according to referral umpire Bowden - upon appeal)

Hes out for 150

322-3

That must be the longest referral decision in history!

83.1 Hilfenhaus to Prince, OUT, appeal for a catch down leg side as Hilfy slips a length delivery down the leg side and Prince attempts to glance it. They have asked for a review Prince took the bottom hand off the handle as he had a waft at it, can't see whether there was any deflection. The ball was definitely very very close to the glove. did it touch? Nothing conclusive so far. Even Hot Spot doesn't show any white spot (not that it shows all edges). I don't think the third ump will reverse Bucknor's decision. They are taking too long here. C'mon folks. Bucknor walks towards his spot behind the stumps, waits theatrically as he listens to the third ump on his ear piece and gives it OUT Oh boy that was some wait. Third ump has decided it has gone off the gloves. Prince has to go and he walks away to a thunderous reception. Well well well .. I didn't think we had got enough evidence to overrule the initial decision but here we go.

AG Prince c Haddin b Hilfenhaus 150 (358m 249b 19x4 2x6) SR: 60.24

Great knock from Ashwell playing out of position.

If we can somehow bowl them out for less than 450 we may be able to draw the match.

387/3 @ Moment

Kallis on 99* off 143 balls which is quick for kallis!

KAllis gets his century - he celebrates.

And then belatedly, Asad Rauf signals a leg-bye.

I would have let it go Asad....bad call!

Still on 99*

What drama!

TV umpire calls it a single! Kallis moves to 100*

Ricky Ponting getting booed, and is in heated debated with Asad Rauf

If my lip-reading skills are still working, he says to RAuf, 'Thats Bull-****'

Remember this is only Day 2. 450 means SA out by lunch on Day 3. Australia will have to bat for atleast 5 sessions at good pace (atleast 100 runs a session) for that. And if they can do that, might as well look for a win as they will have a lead of about 250 and just Day 5 left

98.2 Siddle to Kallis, 1 run, He has reached his ton after a 11-month gap. Oh no the umpire has signalled it as leg bye! Kallis was celebrating already . What drama. He moved back and across and tried to work it to the on side and got a inside edge to his pad and it rolled off the off side. Kallis had pumped his fist up and the crowd were cheering. Hold on ... more drama as Rauf checks with Bowden and reverses the decision. kallis smiles and puts his hands up. Aha! its not over yet as Ponting charges out to have a strong word with Rauf .. he is not happy that Rauf has changed the decision.

This is Kallis' 31st century
SA 392-3 - lead of 183

Who is this bowler? Bryce McGain? Hes as old as me!!!

10 overs for 100 runs!!!

Where did he come from?

Ricky Ponting still arguing with Asad Rauf.

Its the side of Ponting that lets him down.

Woeful stuff from OZ so far. They can't let SA score over 500.

Problem is we're a batsman short. Dubya will have to play a captain's knock tomorrow, and Hussey and Clarke need to start contributing.

So Does McGain have the worst debut bowling figures in a test match?? economy wise as well?!

Worst debut ever I guess.. SA vs AUS Mar 09

Unfortunate debut...at the Current age 36 years 360 days

Australia has not been able to find one proper spinner since Warne retirement

BE McGain 10 2 93 0 9.30

The news is that Bryce McGain, the legspinner, will make his debut as Marcus North is yet to recover from the fever

BE McGain 1-0-10-0
BE McGain 2-0-11-0
BE McGain 3-0-24-0
BE McGain 4-1-24-0
BE McGain 5-1-38-0
BE McGain 6-1-48-0
BE McGain 7-1-62-0
BE McGain 8-1-80-0
BE McGain 9-2-80-0
BE McGain 10-2-93-0

11.2 McGain to Prince, SIX, Prince says hello to the veteran debutant and sends the ball soaring over long-on. He jumped down the track and lofted it cleanly

55.1 McGain to Prince, FOUR, oh ho! Prince goes after McGain and ends up edging over backward point. He tried to thrash the flighted delivery over covers and got it to the right o backward point. Interesting stuff. He is going after the leggie

55.2 McGain to Prince, FOUR, Oh boy! he does. Reaches his 11th Test ton with a charge down the track and with a lofted shot to long-off boundary. The helmet comes off, he kisses the badge and raises his arms in celebration. The crowd roar and his team-mates give him a standing ovation. What a return. Well played Prince.

55.3 McGain to Prince, FOUR, He is not done yet. Reaches out outside off and sweeps hard to the boundary

59.1 McGain to Kallis, SIX, Kallis breaks free with a pull. Long hop on the stumps and Kallis goes right back to pull it over deep midwicket

59.4 McGain to Kallis, FOUR, McGain gives more ammunition to his critics with another short delivery, Kallis rocks back to pull it easily to deep midwicket boundary.

59.5 McGain to Kallis, FOUR, flighted full but makes no difference as Kallis gets outside the line of the delivery to play a classy straight drive past the non-striker ..

61.1 McGain to Kallis, FOUR, A deep midwicket in place but McGain bowls this short and outside off, Kallis goes back to force it to the off-side boundary

74.1 McGain to Kallis, no run, flighted delivery on the middle, not much turn, pushed back to the bowler

74.2 McGain to Kallis, FOUR, SA refuse to shut the tap. Kallis steps down the track, takes it on the full and drives inside-out through extra cover

74.3 McGain to Kallis, SIX, Smashed! Kallis is again down the track and lofts it cleanly over long-off for a cracking six

74.4 McGain to Kallis, 1 run, flighted full, Kallis stays adjacent to the line to drive it to right of deep cover

74.5 McGain to Prince, SIX, They are looting McGain, No mercy. Day light robbery. Prince advances down the track and whips a lofted delivery over wide midwicket region.

101.3 McGain to de Villiers, 1 run, clipped off the legs to the long-leg region. 100 up for McGain. This is the worst economy rate in Test history.

101.2 McGain to de Villiers, SIX, We got a man down in the crowd! It was a dolly, a long hop and de Villiers pulls it over midwicket boundary where a man lunges over the railings to catch it and topples over !

danish isn't that worse then :P

Early days yet, but at this point he's giving away as many runs as Krejza does and is not taking wickets. He's going to need to change that to stick around.

The problem is that he didnt look like taking a single wicket. So the only way he will get one to his name would be if someone mistimes it, gets over confident or one of the talies. rubbish rubbish!!

Mcgain seems to have got some tap and Aussies search for a decent test spinners looks to go on!

A retirement home in Melbourne I think...

Not to write off players at start of their careers but mcgain and mcdonald do not look test class players.

"I can't see any point in not playing him [in Cape Town]. If he can't get a game when Australia is 2-0 up in the series then they are not going to play him in England."

Well we are going to get smashed this game it seems. Oh well.

And we still need a spinner because this guy aint going to cut it.

I guess he only bowled 10 overs and they obviously took him to the cleaners to end his career. Did you see the match though RA? Was he spinning the ball? Is he trying to take wickets or contain?

Early days, but while Krusha goes for millions of runs as well, at least he takes wickets.

Lack of an extra batsman is going to cost us in this game unless Ronnie suddenly discovers how to swing the bat.

I waited and waited for Ponting to bowl him.... :pissed: then saw one over where he got smashed and thought this guy is no good.

Reminded me of a right handed Beau Casson - and that is not a good thing.

Not much turn, not much control over his length and looked totally out of his depth. Maybe he will improve in this match but it seems pretty obvious The Ponting does not rate him.

Guy's accept the reality, Australia DO NOT have any international quality spinners, full stop. Either play with 5 seamers or get on the phone to SK Warne.

No we don't. This guy was supposed to be the best spinner we had. He is a class above the others in terms of domestic stats, he is the only one with a record that looks like a specialist bowler.

I still have some hopes that Krejza might turn out a decent spinner. None for Hauritz.

And no we won't be asking Warne to come back.

The pain for Aussie fans starts in half an hour. Saffers 195 runs ahead with 3 days to play.

We are gone gone gone in this match barring a miracle ie bowl then out for 10 this morning, make 500 then bowl them out for 250. :D

The only real bright spot for Australia has been Peter Siddle, who has bowled beautifully. Johnson and Hilf have looked tired and McGain, well.

Hopefully Ponting gives him a bowl early instead of halfway through the day.

Here by myself again it seems, oh well.

Consider this community service. :)

Hilf gets Kallis without adding to his overnight total for 102.

4/418, Siddle and Hilfenhaus in operation.

Glorious shot by Duminy for 4 and then gets out next ball to MJ. Again to the short ball he definetely has a weakness there.

5/443

I think Australia should stick with a four man pace bowling attack..until they find a genuine spinner, not a misfit from the domestic circle.

If the opposition prepares a spin friendly wicket then perhaps Krejza out of any of the spinners would be best suited, if not let Clarke and Katich have a go.

This time the referal will work as it should, Bucknor will be overruled. Yes NOT OUT!

on cricinfo commentary...

Lisa: "So awesome to see that SA has an extra player named 'EXTRAS'. He has already got 52. Wow, this guy is good, hope he becomes a permanent fixture."

:D

Albie Morkel in for his debut test inns.

TV just showing Ponting remonstrating with Asad Rauf the umpire about Kallis being given the runs instead of the original leg byes. He should be in trouble for that, it wasn't a polite enquiry. But I have a feeling nothing will be done about it.

Albie smashes hilfenhaus through midwkt, this could be an exciting inns by Morkel, perfecly set up for him, and another 4, almost a repeat shot

On_the_up said:
McGain's current spell 5.2-0-33-0 , much better effort.
Yip, he has moved off the top of the "Worst economy rate in an innings".

Though, a bad over from Morkel can make a difference.
