India is on the verge of creating history, with a first-ever ODI series triumph on South African soil beckoning ahead of the fourth ODI. The Indians have never won a limited-overs series in South Africa and Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men will leave no stone unturned to achieve the feat at St George's Park. Even though India are leading the series 2-1, there are several things the visitors will want to improve on, with the main one being batting. The batting was ordinary in the first two matches, while it was just a little bit better in the third match. The bowling and fielding were responsible for both wins. With seniors like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir missing from the ranks, the youngsters, who have done well in the recent past, have not been able to cope with the conditions. India's bowling attack, in contrast, has been impressive with the pace duo of Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel creating problems for the batsmen. Even spin spearhead Harbhajan Singh has come up with consistent performances with the ball, while with the bat, he scored valuable runs in the third ODI. If India have been bad with the bat though, South Africa have been even worse. The first ODI saw them put up a good total, but since then, the batsmen have let the side down rather badly. In the absence of veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis, South Africa lack the required balance in the side and even as captain Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy and new comer Faf du Plessis have all chipped in with runs, they simply have not made up for the loss of Kallis so far in the tournament. South Africa's chief problem while batting appears to be a rather long tail. Given that, the pressure on the top order to fire is even higher than normal and the lack of all-rounders in the side has upset the balance considerably. The bowling has been fairly adequate, though the bowlers would do well to have more specific plans for someone like Yusuf Pathan - who can change the game in a matter of minutes. The home side's fielding was far below its world-class standards in the third ODI, and the fact that the fielding fell apart was perhaps the sign of a side not being all mentally 'there' in the match. If South Africa want to prevent a series-win for India, they will need to be a lot more switched on for this match. Having won two close matches - in both of which South Africa had their chances to win - the Indians will be feeling much better mentally than the South Africans. South Africa need to overcome that deficit as well as batting woes, while India need to continue to be mentally strong and not take undue pressure from the fact that this could be a first-ever series win in South Africa.

Thanks for the thread mate :). Hope this proves lucky for us today..

Thank you Sir John for creating the thread. You are lucky for India!!

India will win this match, they have good players on form, but sad that Dhoni is injured, he's my favorite Indian player, hope Rohit Sharma plays good cricket.

I am frustrated because of Rohit Sharma. The guy has immense talent but is so inconsistent. He has so much time to play his shots especially to the pacers but hasnt justified it inspite of getting so many opportunities. When will he live up to his potential?

Good chance for India to win their 1st ODI series in S.A

According to cricinfo Imran Tahir will debut. SA must bowl first because i want to see Tahir's bowling. Can't wait for it. :D

Its amazing how Dhoni lost yet another toss. He does not have any luck at all. I have never seen any captain with this kind of toss record.

So he is playing after all.. phew!!

If we win the match inspite of the toss, I'm not complaining about Dhoni's luck :D

Dhoni is a captain who you could give a double headed coin to and he would still lose the toss :)))

Dhonis luck with the toss is amazing. Either he wins a lot of them continuosly or he loses them all. I remember him winning a lot of these tosses pre 2010. Last year was a wretched year for him and it is continuing till now..

Hope he reverses the trend during the WC. If he starts winning then he doesnt lose many - that is for sure!

From Cricindia - Narendakumar on Dhoni's astonishingly poor toss record: "I think in the matches which india plays, it is a waste of time to have the toss." :)))

Amla having a stinker of a series with the bat!

Amla is one of the most overrated players on PP

Slow motion choke in progress, SA really haven't been the same team after that 2nd ODI loss.

I thought so to before I saw him in action in the test series. He is real class, has a great technique and plays some amazzing shots

I think the Indians have found a way to breach the Amla barrier. He has a problem with incoming deliveries. He has got out out to such deliveries in the last three games plus the T20 match..

Would be interesting to see if the Indians get him out using that tactic today..

Amla is class - no two ways about it. And he is even dangerous in sub continental conditions

Amla id very strong mentally and he is very disciplined, perhaps the most disciplined player in SA. His faith has helped him so much:moyo

He is a good player but so overhyped on PP it's untrue. The words 'future captain', 'saviour', 'great' and 'legend of the game' are used far too often in relation to Amla here - just like Usman Khawaja.

You are just jealous because of their strong faith and belief !!!!

Salam'walaykum to All..

SA off to a good start but they are playing watchful cricket... And Taking calculative risks..

indian bowling is crap. no pace, no control. i bet this match is going to be same as the first one.

Smith has problems with his style of Batting grip.. Thats why he suffers to play all his shots perfectly at times..

this must be the worst bowling line up in the world
even bangladesh bowlers are better than these thrundlers
