India (349/8) pull off tense 17-run victory over South Africa (332) in action-packed 1st ODI in Ranchi

Rickleton doesn't fit either if De Zorzi doesn't fit. De Zorzi has actually been better than Rickleton who has done nothing.

They need Klassen ahead of Rickleton and then QDK can open, ideally
Rickleton is a better player than his numbers suggest. But they can drop him if this lack of performance continues and bring in De Zorzi.

Just don't see Klaasen coming back, otherwise he would be a surefire pick.

One thing i noticed, not sure if any one else.

India always gets bagged for the pitches and i do not disagree on this, my personal opinion am sick of the spin pits which spin miles from day one session one - Kolkata test vs saf being prime example.

I would say the same if India won the Kolkata test vs SAF.

But this Ranchi wicket was wonderful. It was even paced, quality bounce if quicks bent their back, swing on offer, it seamed after pitching and i suppose if there was lesser dew on offer, especially in the 2nd innings possibly some more assistance for spinners (albeit that would we'd've won by a bigger margin :) but thats another discussion for another day).

It defo was not a low bounce spin snake forest that generally indian pitches are associated with.

The key was good even bounce and pace, that in itself makes for a compelling contest.

If the SAF top order had got out to spinners, the whole world and their khalujaan in tow would have screamed from rooftops : ' pitches in india are rigged to suit spinners/bcci >ICC the whole samosaidlivadapaavchaat'....

but here the SAF top order got out to excellent pace bowling and pressure from indian pacemen. SAF batsmen are used to such conditions, born and brought up in such conditions. They should be scoring 100's for fun in such conditions, the TO should have scored a Gadzillion in the PP.

Why the fridge does no SAF or any other media/TV commie praise the pitch? Is'nt this pitch an ideal pitch?

Am not playing the indian victim card, never will - but surely there are times when credit should be forth coming but does not arrive.

Is there only one direction of thought and perception when it comes to Indian pitches? :ua :gilly
Look bro - if you want to make a complaint, you are free to do so and if you feel you hard done by, then do so too.

But don’t sign off with “I’m not playing the victim card”.

I didn’t actually watch the match, so I don’t know how the pitch behaved, but very rarely you see much discussion about an ODI pitch unless both teams get rolled over for like 120.

Why is everyone entitled to praise India? That too for a random bilateral game?

One hell of a poor management with KL Rahul in Indian Cricket! This guy is coming, going (selected/dropped) continuosly, shuffled in the batting order, shuffled across formats, playing as pure batsman, wk batsman... He is doing everything. But mentally he is a weak player (temperament-wise, though he is technically sound - the way he is shuffled & asked to play various roles is not helping his concentration... He is not flexible enough to handle various roles, but still he his asked to handle, sometimes he is successfully - sometimes he is an utter failure! And that failure can come at the worst possible time - e.g., 2023 WC Finals, which cost us in huge way! Lords Test match was another example - decided the series!)

Unless Indian management don't make up their mind, it is not going to help either KL Rahul or Indian Team! He may come good at odd times, but as I said it may cost us at the most needed time...

Either play him as Test Opener OR LOI middle order permanently... Don't ask him to do both the rules... For him to be all format player, he should have been opening in all three formats long back... (Even this - not many players today are doing at the moment)
Very good post. Insightful.

Not making any complaint.....

and never said eveyone was entitled to praise indida either for every oppurtunity

unless you were reading underwater or your lenses got fogged i said "my personal opinion am sick of the spin pits which spin miles from day one session one - Kolkata test vs saf being prime example."

i will forever and a day critisize certain types of indian pitches and have done so, multiple times including times when indian has won-but obviously that is lost on you and @sweep_shot but in case of esteemed bro Sweepy - one can understand- its default settings.

My point was we get bagged for the pitches 99 percent - dammed if we do and dammed if we dont...but this pitch was a beaut, some credit is defo due for all the bagging.

Cheers dude :faf
