SA should have thrown in De Kock here. His mere presence would have put the indian bowlers under preassure.

Indian rookie team is challenging the 'legendary' South African team. I'm sure Saffers would have thought turning up against these guys was enough.. Good on you Team India :19:

I don't think anyone was thinking that. If anything it's the people here who were going on about 50 all out and how they would be happy with a drawn match.

South Africa bat very deep these days one cant help but feel India needed a lead of 80+.
In an innings shootout i will back SA to come good.

SA may even take a lead here. 30-50 runs lead will be very handy.

Indians have surely surprised South Africa, like it or not. Smith was talking about building a 'legacy' when asked about the match. Anyway, I'm happy that the match so far has been a perfect advertisement for test cricket.

He would have said that regardless of who was playing. Wanting to build a legacy is not the same as actually doing it. That's not underestimating the opposition though.

Despite Nohits pathetic fielding this game is in our hands. All we have to do is get a decent lead SA will choke even in test you just watch and see.

Nonsense, check the team's (and especially Smith's) 4th innings record.

Didn't see any of the day's play but looks like India's nascent bowling attack have done pretty well. Right in the game. Kohli's innings and Ishan't spell the difference so far.

Sure, but you can't speak with certainty. The choking thing is being overdone, and mainly applies to ODIs, not tests.

No to be fair even in ODI's I think its overdone, in my opinion Pakistan chokes more than SA but that's just me.

On this subject, when was the last time SA choked in test? I mean real choking examples not some tests where team never had any control of the test match to start with.

Choking is strictly limited to ODI.

It was early in the test so wasn't really a choke but last tour to india SA were 1-0 up and 1-200 on the first day of the second test and they then lost 9 for not many and ended up losing quite badly.

Like i said not really a choke as it was only 50 overs into the test when the wickets started falling.

They really haven't let many opportunities slip in recent years in tests though.

For me Shami's over swung the game in india's favour if only Rohit held onto the catch it would have been a great day India. I'd still favour India at this point though, 1 or 2 quick wicket's and if they bat well that is.

Still SA's day IMO

India being rickrolled by philander the whole day has put SA under control

A good fightback from India late in the day.

If SA take Kallis to the WC they will have no chance of winning. Need to make a call on him now.

Peterson should come in for Tahir next game.

Game hasn't moved on in one team's direction so far in first two days. Let's see what happens tomorrow now.. Another crucial day coming up..

Only match which involved india and that too exciting in recent times.

Inshallah my saffer brothers will win this in the end. The resiliance they have shown will trump youre flash in the pan attempts at bowling well..

Bhai it is spelt In sha Allah. What you have written has a different meaning.

India are on top here, Kohli has batted quite well compared to the South African batsmen, he batted against the World's best fast bowling team so he deserves the man of the match award. Ishant also lead from the front, the wickets of Amla and Kallis really made the difference in the match. He deserves a five wicket haul.

Err match isn't over, haven't even finished the first innings yet.

It's even so far IMO.

The match is certainly even at this point. However, wouldn't that be a shock to the SA team and their supporters? Who would have thought it would be so after two days of play. Great going Team India!

Not really, India have had the best of the conditions with bat and ball.

SA had some helpful conditions early on day 2 and they wrapped up the Indian lower order.

So, the helpful conditions compensated for the vast difference in quality of the teams? It is only two days into the match, so, I would not call them excuses yet :)

Respect for Zaheer Khan, the kind of intensity and stamina he has displayed at this age.

What you call excuses is fact... why act like you've won the test when SA have yet to bowl to indias top order in these conditions...

Well, all I am saying is India competed well when nobody gave them any chance at all! And they deserve credit for that. (And I wrote a few posts above that the match was even at this point). Let's leave it at that.

I hope the match is equally exciting in the remaining days as well!

I think what India have done is play well enough to keep the match as a contest, and that's all you can ask for as a team. It's certainly far from won yet, but they have given themselves a chance, as have SA. It's understandable that the Indian fans are happy as they were probably expecting their team to get shelled. Likewise SA fans probably didn't expect their team to be in a position where it is battling to try and get a first innings lead. But all to play for for both sides. Good Test cricket. As a neutral I'm enjoying the contest.

I think pujara will come good in the 2nd innings & so will dhawan. I dont see India loosing this test match unless rohit n co spoil the curry

How is condition easier to bat first day? If india score runs in their second innings then pitch has turned flat?
Rain overnight left some moisture in the pitch.

Philander exploited the conditions well and rolled the Indian tail.

Playing Vijay and not Jadeja was suicidal, may just prove to be the turning point of the match,Vijay= useless, jadeja could tke 2-3 wickets even here and score 30 odd easily

Aww, so when India bats it will become batting pitch again. And then in 4th Inning, it will again become minefield.

Er... OK, lets ignore the overhead conditions :)
