What's new

South Africa vs India | 2nd Test | Centurion | Jan 13-17, 2018 | Day 4 | Discussion Thread

Is it just me or does Lungi look like he is already exhausted...he has just bowled 3 overs.

If SA gets Kohli then the rest of India cannot chase it even if they each bat twice.

It is Kohli or nothing for India at the moment.

Kohli or no Kohli, it's not getting chased with variable bounce.

From that length ball hardly got up for a 6' 5" bowler. WHich uninformed cricket fan thought it was a patta wicket

I was the only one who did not want to drop Dhawan who plays with intent irrespective of conditions. Rahul has been out of form for almost an year now. Looked mediocre whenever he was given a chance.

I wanted Rahul in place of Rohit or Vijay. Not at the expense of Dhawan who would have done well on this surface.

Same here.. Never wanted Dhawan out of team

In those immortal words:

"Kohliiiiiii nahi hota tughse chaseeeee"

:)))

Sorry I couldn't help myself :yk3

I'll see myself out

This is why this is a ****** pitch, if icc don't penalise this i don't know what sort of pitch can be penalised.

Is one review reserved for Kohli at all times? This is becoming a bit of a joke at this point with this guy reviewing plumb decisions again and again.

Bhai it is s3 d4. The pitch is supposed to keep a little low at that stage.
In India it turns square from ball 1. Big difference.

Yeah the pitches that India serves up in home series where it turns square from ball one are ok?

Why cry now? :sree

It was never a patta. It had spin on day one, something which was manageable for India. But the low bounce today has made it worse. It just wasnt a green pitch, which again India wouldnt have been able to handle.

No you see India end up winning those matches so all is fine, but if India don’t win we shall blame the pitch.

It's an average team. I think we all knew india would make just about 150 today and lose.

26/3 - Indian batsmen been technically exposed again. Time to play non stop series at home again for 5 years and not tour abroad ;)

Game over! South Africans are bowling the right lines and hence getting the wickets. Btw, Rahul was supposed to play a miracle innings. Where are his fans? Talent ain't anything without performance. He's not in good touch.

Just some face saving runs are needed to make the final score card look decent now.

Hoope Parthiv Patel scores some runs here. He is a talented batsman.

That was very slow spin. Kookaburra vs SG. It was not green pitch because SA sucks on green pitches bar ABDV

Dhoni really killed Parthiv's career. He was really talented but obviously Dhoni turned out to be an ATG.

Virat isnt in the same league as smith. Plays across the line too often. Had he played with a straight bat he would have improved his chances of surviving

Funny thing is, this is exactly the sort of pitch that India serve up at home. South Africa would have scored 500+ in their first innings if not for the two run-outs and same goes for India. Of course, the pitch has now deteriorated and batting is tough with uneven bounce and some spin.

Morkel said it was "100% like bowling in India".

And non asian sides just arent that good too when they tour Asia.

Yes but generally better.

India are being thrashed, Pakistan are humiliating themselves each time they take the field. Less said about Lanka and us the better.

Slow spin which is not expected on day 1. Are you saying it was a patta on the first couple of days?

And i Dont think thats the reason for dishing out such a pitch. It was a mistake on their part i think and we will see a green track in 3rd test. Lets see.

Lord Pujara had proclaimed during last test that India is comfortable chasing target upto 350.. Let's see

Poor from the indian bowlers also to concede 250 plus in the 2nd innings on this track .
They have done ok in the series but their performance was very average in the 1st innings of the 1st test and now here .

How better? SA, Aus, England etc have all been whitewashed in India and UAE and even SL, some of them more than 1 time.

On the other hand, India won a test in SA last time they toured and Pakistan also competed well in their 2nd test. India won tests in Australia while Pakistan drew series in England and almost chased 470 in Australia.

Its even stevens.

Smith plays across the line more frequently. But he doesn't miss the ball credit to his technique and skill (hand eye cordinaton. Virat got out in the first test playing across the line. This time though he got an unplayable delivery.

Aus had a decent showing in India, Eng in BD won a test. Generally (not 1 tour in isolation) the ferangi teams put up a better show than we do.

I think we have to clap for each delivery survived here on.... Truly fearsome bowling and near unplayable pitch

Smith only plays across the line to selective deleveries + he is more patient.
He scored 30 on more difficult pitch in banglore , got out on a grubber + he scored 100 on a mine field in pune

Had they got AB so early like amla the result would have been different

If the score was something like 10/3 with ab and amla gone then india would have won the match at this very moment

Seriously - I would just ask Rohit to go into ODI mode and see what happens.

Neither he or we have anything to lose at this point.

Doubt it. Plessis would have stood up. 200 is enough on this wicket

That is because of the batting friendly wickets in the subcontinent. It's far easier to adjust to a batting wicket than to a bowling wicket. It's just that your pacers will be less effective.

Srilanka won a test series in England too.

I dont think the non asian sides have performed better but its your opinion so its ok.

We've been stuck at 20-odd for what seems like ages.

Ngidi is gonna be a handful in his career. Unlike Morkel, he doesn't mind pitching it u. The way he set up Kohli reminds me of Cummings working Kallis over. The future of South African fast bowling is safe.
