Pakistan Women 216 for 6 (Maroof 99, Javeria 49, Luus 4-38) beat South Africa Women 159 for 9 (Chetty 32, Amin 3-24) by 57 runs

Bismah Maroof missed out on a maiden ODI hundred, but her 99, followed by a three-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Anam Amin sent Pakistan Women on their way to a 57-run win against South Africa Women in Sharjah.

Pakistan, opting to bat, lost their opener Marina Iqbal early, but Maroof and Javeria Khan (49) counterattacked, adding 88 runs for the second wicket. Legpspinner Sune Luus (4 for 38) then sliced through Pakistan's top order with four wickets, but Maroof led another recovery, this time combining with Asmavia Iqbal for a sixth-wicket association which yielded 74 runs. Maroof batted for nearly three hours, striking three fours, but was run out one short of a century, as Pakistan compiled 216 for 9.

Several South Africa batsmen made starts during the chase, but their inability to convert them into a much-needed fifty hurt the team. Their opener Trisha Chetty was the only player to score more than 30, as Sana Mir (2 for 22) and Amin (3 for 24) kept pegging them back at regular intervals. Maroof, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, capped off a fine performance by snaring the wicket of Luus, while Asmavia and Nida Dar also chipped in with a scalp each, restricting South Africa to 159 for 9.

Pakistan women draw first blood in opening ODI

Pakistan women draw first blood in opening ODI

Bismah Maroof hit 99 runs to lead the Pakistan women to a comprehensive, 57-run victory in the first One-Day International against the Momentum Proteas in Sharjah on Friday.

Maroof was supported by Javeria Khan (49) and Asmavia Iqbal (35*) to get their side to 216/6 after electing to bat first. She denied herself a well-earned ton by running herself out with just a run to go.

South Africa’s Suné Luus was the pick of the bowlers, with four wickets for 38 in her 10-over spell. Her wickets included Nain Abidi (4), captain Sana Mir (7), Nida Dar (4) and she also deprived Khan of her half-century, taking a catch off her own bowling to remove her with a run to go to 50. Shabnim Ismail was the only other bowler to claim a wicket, taking just one for 30, while the rest of the bowling unit seemed to struggle.

It was tough going for the visitors in their reply. Their top run scorer was Trisha Chetty with 32 off 72 balls. Mignon du Preez, Lizelle Lee and Dané van Niekerk contributed 27, 25 and 21 respectively, but none could consolidate their starts to get a heftier score.

Pakistan’s Anam Amin and Mir took 3/24 and 2/22 respectively to restrict South Africa to 159/9 at the end of their 50 overs.

“It wasn’t the best day at the office for us, Pakistan were definitely the better team on the day,” South Africa’s captain, du Preez said. “We should have restricted them to a lower total, but our batting let us down the most. We didn’t show the kind of intent we usually do. Pakistan restricted our scoring areas and once they took them away, we didn’t find alternative options.

“We will definitely regroup*tomorrow*and look to do a lot of things differently when we play the next match on Sunday,” she concluded.

They will look to bounce back in the second ODI that will take place at the same ground on Sunday, 15 March.

Bismah Mahroof is my favourite PAK women's cricketer both performance wise and looks wise haha ;)

Luus five-for sees SA women level series

Sunday, 15 March 2015

Suné Luus took a career-best five wickets for 20 to lead the Momentum Proteas to a three-wicket victory over Pakistan at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday. This win sees the three-match series levelled with the decider to take place on Tuesday.

Pakistan were restricted to 133 thanks to Luus and Shabnim Ismail, who claimed an impressive 3/15 in her nine-over spell, including four maidens. The hosting skipper, Sana Mir was the top run scorer with an unbeaten 35 runs, with Javeria Khan scoring 34 to wrap up their most notable performances after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

South Africa also seemed to struggle with the bat. Anam Amin took consecutive wickets at the start of the fifth over, removing Nadine Moodley and Bernadine Bezuidenhout for 10 and none respectively. Captain, Mignon du Preez was dismissed for eight before Trisha Chetty (33) and Lizelle Lee (28) shared the 47-run, fourth-wicket partnership that put the visitors on course for victory.

Dané van Niekerk (34*) and Luus (12) added another 36 runs between them for the sixth wicket to get their side to victory.

The series decider will take place at the same ground on*Tuesday, 17 March 2015.

Lee, Du Preez bat Proteas women to series win

Tuesday, 17 March 2015

Lizelle Lee and Mignon du Preez shared a 79-run, fourth-wicket stand to lead the Momentum Proteas women to a five-wicket victory over Pakistan at Sharjah on Tuesday. South Africa thus win the three-match, One-Day International series which falls under the ICC Women’s Championship 2-1.

All of the visiting bowlers made a contribution with the ball, with Dané van Niekerk leading the way with 2/28. Suné Luus, Matshipi (Marcia) Letsoalo, Moseline Daniels, Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka each claimed a stick, with Marizanne Kapp and Daniels adding a run out to restrict the hosts to a below par 153/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Pakistan’s captain, Sana Mir, top scored with 52 runs.

South Africa’s batting reply was once again off to a shaky start when the top three were dismissed for less than 15 runs. Openers, Nadine Moodley and Trisha Chetty, fell victim to Sumaiya Siddiqi for five and eight respectively, while Kapp was bowled by Sadia Yousuf for 11, leaving their side struggling on 35/3 at the start of the 11thover.

Du Preez and Lee added 79 vital runs between them, with the latter hitting the visitors’ only half century (54 off 97 balls) for a well-earned Player of the Match award, while Du Preez scored 43 off 72.

South Africa achieved victory with 20 balls to spare.

The sides now prepare for the three-match T20 series from 19-22 March.
