Spin battle - Kuldeep Yadav v Shadab Khan v Mason Crane

Yadav is not a mystery spinner, he is a genuine spinner who turns the ball. Laughable comment.
Yeah everyone's a mystery spinner these days, apparently people forget what traditional spinners (offie or leggie) used to look like back in the day. The Mendis' & Narine's of this world have made mystery spin as some sort of a big thing, when in fact regular spinners will always outlast them in the long run.

This isn't the googly. It would be a googly (the opposite of a legspinner) if a leggie (right arm wrist-spinner) was bowling but this is the conventional Chinaman delivery.

1.Chinaman

2 and 3 Googly

4.Top Spinner

Last one flipper.

An interesting thing to notice about Kuldeep is that even while Bowling his variations his pace doesn't change much.

An old MCC definition of a googly is that it is a ball that turns in the opposite direction from what batsmen expects.

I personally think the terms should be different. Chinaman's googly should be called wrong'un. But then, you would also need another name for a SLA's doosra.

Yadavs bowling is coming on leaps and bounds; The guy has incredible control and turns the ball miles. Shadab struggled in NZ but overall has made great strides. Over to Crane to what he can do this summer.

If all 3 keep their feet on the ground, we could have the most exciting Spin battle since the late 90s. Yadav is slightly ahead but the other 2 have just as much potential.

Safe to say Kukdeep won this battle

Hopefully, he can fill the void of Ashwin in long run. Does he deserve to play test matches in SENA? He probably does but so do Jadeja and Sundar.

This thread tells us how complex wristspin is.

Various paths of all 3 leggies in last 8 years have been like snakes and ladders game.

Kuldeep has broken and rebuilt his action up after stagnating and come back a very different operator. Big credit to ICT centre of excellence support.

Shadab action has been broken down by injury and technical flaws and unable to be corrected because of league treadmill

Crane was broken down by injuries and then underutilized by his county which led to him never growing as a bowler

what happened to Crane? He was very highly wasn't he but he didn't have a career at all.

England used to be known for not being able to develop leg spinners, but Crane's FC looks woeful too.

Was the other young spinner from Lancashire you mentioned in the thread, Matt Parkinson. They gave him a few overs in a test and then never picked him again.

I always thought he was pretty rubbish. Lacked any kind of control. Also, when you have a debut like that...in the Ashes, it's very hard to come back from that. See: Tom Curran

I think his figures for the match were 1-190 or something. I can't time of too many worse bowling debuts than that in recent times

This thread may seem funny now but Shadab had a ton of potential back then, and his early record in white-ball was very good. But it just goes to show how much you need to evolve and adapt in modern day cricket. Something Shadab has failed to do.

Kuldeep at one point not to long ago was completely found out and being slapped around like government mule by every IPL team. India had dropped him from the national team completely. But look at the way he has bounced back in the past two years in every format.

That's what separates the best players from the mediocre ones. Everyone suffers different setbacks, but it's how you bounce back from those setbacks that matters.

He has been much better but nowhere the level the early promise suggested. Decent career but on good test wickets, he looks OK. The other 2,well lets not talk about them
???

He has been great on flat wickets. Was great in the 2024 home Eng series.

Might have been a valid comparison when this thread was made, but not now. India is lucky to have Kuldeep.

Quality strike bowler but often gets hit when put under pressure. I prefer bowlers who stay economical when they are not picking wickets.

You want people to attack the spinner. Doesn't really matter if he gets taken for runs a bit.
